Well hear me out, whenever you hear a song from SNSD do you atomatically think, "Oh, that's such an SNSD song!" or "No group could ever sing SNSD songs!"?

Unfortunately I don't. They have no sense of musical identity and originality whatsoever. Their entire discography is so wishy-washy that it has no cohesiveness factor to it as well. SM just lets them jump on the bandwagon on what's the hot music trend and purchases the right to said finish songs for SNSD to karaoke over.

Now, I know they have Gee and Genie which imo are staple legendary Kpop songs, but other than that...nothing.

It's so disheartening to know for a fact that they wouldn't be whete they are now if Wonder Girls didn't leave to make advancements for the US.

Either way, WG do have a disfinct sound and originality. As well as Bigbang, Beast, 2ne1, Apink, Infinite, etc. When you hear one of their songs you automatically think it's them, these groups know the sound they want to go for and it works! Sad I can't say the same for Soshi tho :/

Tell us how y'all feel about this serious matter!

Honey I am glad that they don't stick to one sound. That's one of many reason why I appreciate

Girls` Generation as much as I do. Their ability to act as Chameleons and literally mold to whatever

genre and concept is thrown at them... is just amazing. And it's not even the fact that they never get

''boring'', but just rather their skills to be able to adapt to anything, it's admirable and artistic.

Also if you listen to their album tracks, there is a very Girls` Generation trademark sound to them,

in particular their ballads. Their ballads are among the most memorable in K-Pop.

If I happen to like an SNSD song then I l just like it, I could personally care less about them having a distinct sound.

I stan very few groups, a lot of the time I'm either a casual fan or I just happen to hear a song and like it, I don't stick to groups because they have a certain style musically. It's not all that important.

I mean they aren't necessarily wrong? The retro/classic sound that Lion Heart has, has been making a comeback in kpop. You Think is literally the Korean Worth It (which is a song with a dated sound that jumped on that whole urban song with horns trend). Mr. Mr. is dated electropop.

I like how they have different concepts all the time. That way I don't get bored with their music. They always have something new to bring.

Oh no, I agree. They're one of the fairly few groups who stand out a lot due to their concepts visually since they're from SM and the company can afford it.

But, that's about it. They rely more on the visual aspexts of things to talk for itself instead of their music...I feel.

Oh Athena.... there's two wrong things with what you just said.

If the retro sound is just making a comeback, how could they have planned out Lion Heart ahead?

And no, this sound hasn't really been used in recent years, it's not even strictly retro. It has a twist

of trot to it. Comeback don't just happen. Recording and everything takes months even years

prior to everything falling in place and lining up.

And no, just no. You Think is NOTHING like what is trending in Korea, let's not add American acts

and what's hot in America right now, to a K-Pop group, releasing K-Pop music for Koreans. You Think

is so polar opposite or what Koreans like that you couldn't be further away.

Edit* Also OP wasn't talking strictly about THIS comeback, but rather their entire career up

until now. Girls` Generation stopped release public friendly music post-Hoot.... Like you can't

even argue that... it's just ridiculous to even notion the idea.

except worth it is irrelevant in korea where they recycle the same american artists they like 24/7.

All the girl groups are practically copying each other every summer trying to make Loving You 2.0 then I guess... kind of unavoidable. Plus they purposely are coming with 3 different types of songs so its kinda strange to say they are trying to copy whatever is popular but id say they are trying to appeal to more audiences

Lol ur praising apink for their boring same old generic sound...?

Ok

Like SNSD to you, I like Apink's sound. Not everyone does and I respect that. But the fact is, they have their own identity musically and it stands out and it works.

I'm just expressing my opinion on the matter, it's really that simple.

Edit: Oh and for the people saying you're glad they aren't sticking to the same sound, no! That's not what I'm trying to get at at all.

I think snsd biggest problem is that they have a very weak korean discography. Once you get past their hit singles, theirs not much else. Its like they care a lot of about concepts\singles, but their albums aren't very memorable or that good.

???

It's not just making a comeback. It's been making a comeback since like 2013.

Korean music sans folk/trot is literally recycled/rehashed Western music. So YES the example fits when that's obviously where they are taking the trends from. :derp:

SNSD are not known for their ballads. Not to the general public, and definitely not to casual K-pop fans, so how is it possible that they're among the most memorable?

Can anyone, that isn't a SONE, even name at least 3 popular ballads from SNSD?
