Senior Year advice?

3amthoughts

Recommended Posts

This is my first "post" so here I go.

So my senior year of High school is starting in about two weeks and I just want some advice on what to expect.

I'm not very sociable and I'm not in sports. TBH I want to graduate cause I feel stuck and bored, but I also want to enjoy my last year.

So, is it an easy ride or stressful? Thanks :)

for me it was a mix of both. There are times where it can get very very stressful, but also times where you're so relaxed and carefree.

I got into a slump and there was a time where I didn't care about my classes and about failing, beware of that. Also the thought of not graduating came up a lot so make sure you finish all the requirements you need to graduate

Well, everyone's experience is different, and I think it all depends on your classes and how well you did the previous years of hs. But one piece of advice I can give you, having gone through my senior year last school year, is please don't slack off. Especially if you're planning to go to college. Senior year grades do matter and colleges can take back your acceptance upon receiving your final trascript from senior year. So I suggest doing your best and not just breezing by if that's the direction you want to go in after hs. But also, don't stress too much. It's better to learn how to balance social life and school work before going to college anyway, so get lots of practice with that.

Senior year is going to go by really quickly, try to enjoy it as much as you can. If you don't want to join sports teams , thats fine but definetely do try joining councils and volunteer at events with friends, its really fun. If you're planning to go somewhere post secondary, work really hard at your studies, it will feel like theres a test everyday, which is good because it will make the year go by quickly. Dont Forget to go to prom, you will regret it if you dont!

It could be stressful depending on your course load.

Thanks, I knew a few people that became so lax that they started repeated missing school.

I just graduated this past year, and I don't really know if it's nostalgia or my anxiety speaking but I wish I was going to high school for at least one more year. I was so stressed this past year and I was at a breaking point 95% of the time. The best advice really is to focus on your work but also try not to get down with everything so quickly. This isn't the best year of your life, despite what cliches will say, but it's really your last year to be a kid. Don't count the days until graduation. It's going to fly by. Just try to enjoy what time you have left with your friends and make sure to put your all into your schoolwork for those grades. Don't rush yourself to finish the year.

Thank you! I plan on attending college, but I'm worried it'll be too much because I procrastinate really bad. I'm hoping to step out of my comfort zone a little.

Thanx, definitely doing prom.

If you are planning to go to college, the only advice I can give is Do not slack off. You don't have to study all the time but make sure you understand what the teacher is teaching in class and make sure you finish your assignment.

Treasure the friends that you have because at least in my case, my high school friends are the friends for life.

It's fine if you don't join clubs or sports but try to volunteer for events etc. You can build your resume from that.

Once in a while, go to parties and have fun!

Oh yeah that too. I missed a lot of days because I was lazy or didn't feel like going. I probably missed more days of school senior year than the other 3 years combined lol

Do everything. Go everywhere. Socialize. Do really stupid shit around people who will never see you ever again. Also, haze the freshmen because that's always fun.

:D Freshmen are on a separate campus, but I want to try things I never have before. Thanks

Thank you. Honestly, I was stressed last year about course work. It was mainly my fault, but I understood some of my peers that constantly worried about grades.

Thanxs, I think applying will be hectic. I also want to leave on a good note, so I'll try my best. I volunteer here and there, so hopefully it'll look good on my resume. Parties! I hope I'm not a fish out of water when that happens.

Don't slack off like I did OTL or you'll regret not making the most of your last year. Even if you're not sociable, it may be a good idea to join a club or organization that interests you ^^ Keep up with your studies to the best of your abilities, but also find time to relax and spend time with people you care about, since you may not see them again after this year.

Also imo it would be a really, really good idea to go to your counselor first thing and start reviewing your options for uni (if you want to go that route). Apply early if you can.

Whether or not it'll be a stressful or relaxing year will be based on your actions tbh. Good luck!

Start working on college applications now. The earlier you apply the better. Especially if said colleges operate on a rolling admission basis.

There's so much work to do, a lot of applications are opening up and I've checked out a few. It'll hopefully be worth it in the end. Thank you!

Goodluck to the both of us this year as seniors btw lol.

I dislike most of the kids in my school but honestly put it aside and just enjoy every day. Definitely make friends with people you wouldn't really see again tbh. Do something new for once.

I feel like my senior year was more stressful than most because I made a last minute decision that September to go to college so what others had been planning and preparing for 4 years I had to do in 4 months. But I'm sure you won't be doing that LOL. I would say that if I hadn't done that it would've been a lot less stressful for me. One piece of advice is don't limit yourself from things but at the same time don't think that you have to do every single thing out there, especially when it doesn't really interest you. For example, I forced myself to go to a high school football game since I had never gone before and felt like I had to because ~*senior year*~ but I ended up really disliking it.

For me, personally, I found that just hanging out with friends I knew I would be parting ways with and focusing on my position as editor for the paper made my senior year good because I was with people that made me happy and I was doing something I loved. Whatever makes you happy in school, focus on that.

I say don't let senioritis get the best of you and use it as an excuse to skip or slack off entirely. Finish off strong but also give yourself a break. I know, it's a bit of a contradiction but I hope you know what I mean! Have fun but not too much fun! Try to make some new friends this year because it will literally be the last time your graduation class will all be at one place! It was an easy ride for me but it's because I learned how to give myself a break. If your school holds events then you should try going to them! Dances, concerts, etc. They're actually super fun and I wish I went to more throughout high school. It would be awesome if you made a bucketlist of things you want to complete before graduation.

Good luck and have fun and cheers to the class of 2016!

The thing that threw me off the most during senior year was college apps. Start writing those apps as early as possible, get your essays written and proofread by teachers/people you trust. Good luck!

You're probably gonna wanna slack sometime bc it's senior year, buy don't. You're so close to graduating. Complete all of your requirements.

Are you going to college? It was a lot more work for me since I was, with schoolwork to do and applications and scholarships to complete. If so, visit your advisor as much as you can.

You could get into an extracurricular activity, it doesn't have to be sports. I wasn't very sociable either, so I danced.

It'll be hard sometimes, but you'll get through it. Good luck!
