I need to buy my first smartphone. Everyone says iPhone is the easiest to learn, but the home page is so ugly and it comes with a bunch of apps you can't erase. On the other hand, the os is a lot more stable than android and runs faster, smoother and gets supported and updated for more years. After a year or 2 the android phones stop updating and supporting the old phones. Iphone is a lot more secure too, while google is spying on you and selling your data to everybody. Plus there is Apple stores to help you if things get really bad. But!!! Apple pushes you into their ecosystem and makes it hard to move files to Windows or work with non-Apple products, and I don't own any other Apple products. My PC and laptop is Windows. Windows phones are super simple but there are no apps at all. But they are claiming the new Windows 10 phones will be able to use Android apps?

Windows phone has a nice interface and Cortana is supposed to be the best voice command software. I need voice command for navigation. Google Maps are the best maps, but it can run on iPhone too. Siri is supposed to be the weakest voice command software, BUT there are some claims that the next update will make her more powerful. Google Now is spying on you, but Siri defaults to navigating through Apple Maps. You have to open and run Google Maps separately. Siri can't do it for you (?) (Not sure about this). Some people claim android starts lagging a lot after a couple of months of use and the batteries go down fast.

Have you had both iPhone and Android? Which do you like better?

Can Siri run Google Maps?

Do you trust Android to support your phone for a couple of years?

Does Android start lagging a lot after a couple of months?

android ftw, android is simple, neat and very easy to get used to. I presonally am not fond of iPhone, I don't like the whole OP nor the phones' shapes and all, without mentionning all the iTunes dependance and all ..

I had iPhone 3GS (so back in 2009) and then I switched to a Samsung and haven't looked back (I had an Intercept, Galaxy s3 and Note 3).

I'm actually considering switching to an iPhone again just because so many of my friends have iPhones and I feel left out lmfao. Plus the accessories are better if you live in the States (in Asia I noticed it's more Samsung-oriented for phone accessories). IA about the interface of the iPhone being ugly but I also think more apps are available on iPhones than on Androids/Google Play and ESP more than on Windows.

I've had my Note 3 for a full year and the only problems I have with it is that it freezes at times but i've also dropped my phone (tho it's in an Otterbox case), and I don't clean it off ever (by taking off pix). I also notice it when I have too many apps running but if I just have Chrome, Text Messages, FB Messenger and FB up (my 4 main apps) it's fine.

IDK what kind of plan you're going to get but usually you can upgrade every 1 or 2 years so even tho Android updates will stop being taken by your phone, you're likely not going to have that phone then.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge!!!!! I've had two iPhones before I switched to Samsung and it is pretty sweet. Tho sometimes I do miss my iPhone when I download music, since it automatically syncs from my computer.

Android is not a smartphone..... it's a OS. You should wait a month or two before buying a new phone because Iphone 6S is coming next month and there's this ultimate smartphone called the Saygus V Squared that you can preorder right now in indiegogo, but I would wait until reviews come out before buying it.

Windows phone. Here's why:

1) Cheapest

2) Elegant and professional style

3) Doesn't lag or bug like Android

4) More beautifull and more tools than IOS (Iphone OS)

5) Total Windows acceptance (Computer, Notebook and Tablet and xBox)

6) Windows 10 comming to make all devices using the same OS (Xbox, Winfone and WinPC)

7) Is the one i currently own (previous LG's androids)

8) Let you truly control ure phone and install things whenever you want (unlike iphone that limits you a lot or android that keeps data on phone even if you choose to install in the sdcard)

9) Safest operational system

10) ZERO propaganda pop-ups, malicous apps and adwares.

You can't go wrong with Windows phone. The majority of ppl here might choose android cuz is indeed the most popular, but im a IT and i have a deep knowledge of Operational Systems so i can assure you will LOVE Windows Phone as its simply better than the others.

Good models (Cheap, yet effective): Lumia 640 XL, 730, 1520, 930

There are many types of Android phones but I generally prefer Android (my mom has an iPhone which I use occassionally). The phones give you a lot more room for customization and are better for the price. You can do so much with Android phones to cater to your own taste without even rooting (kinda like jailbreaking for iPhones). Google doesn't sell your information but it does collect a lot of your information but just to give you suggestions and whatnot which I'm fine with -- meanwhile, Google's bloatware apps are actually pretty decent (Drive, Maps, Mail)

But I don't really know the answer to most of your questions...

I've had Android and Windows Phone 8.1 before and tbh, I would stick to using Windows if its not for the limited apps.

So I guess depends on how you wanna use it. But if by the time you are going to buy it WP10 was released and they support Android apps, go for WP10

Why would android lag after a couple of months? I have my phone 2 years now, and it works just as good as day 1. No problem at all.

Yes google spies on you. But do you think Apple is any different? They do exactly thesame. Your privacy is thrown outta the window the minute the take a smartphone, regardless of OS.

iOS store is more curated yes, but there's still tons of trash in it. Same as with google play store. Google play is a total mess. Probably even more so than Apple. Windows barely has any store to speak of, but the most used apps (facebook, twitter, whatsapp etc) are all there. If you are looking for some specific or niche apps, windows doesn't have it though. Google Play has tons of obscure app stuff, which I personally like (but its also potentionally 'dangerous').

You are right about the apple ecosystem, it syncs well with other apple products, but if you don't have any, well.. there is no added value there.

In the end it's really down to your personal preference though. I'd say there is no 'better' version. Personally I like android more due to the ability to customize more stuff and I dislike itunes. But apple's design is pretty slick, I admit. And it's quite user friendly as well, but none of the OS's are really complicated.

so your question ( I already answered some in my text above)

Have you had both iPhone and Android? Which do you like better?

I have android, but I have tried and worked with iPhone. I like Android more (see above)

Can Siri run Google Maps?

Probably? I don't see why not. I haven't tried it.

Do you trust Android to support your phone for a couple of years?

No. It's up to the manufacturer of your phone to release new android updates (and most of them are lacking). This is potentially a security risk. You are dependent on the brand of your phone (Samsung is on top of this afaik, but lesser known brands release very few updates). Apple doesn't have this problem because they curate only their own devices and therefore is more secure.

Does Android start lagging a lot after a couple of months?

No

But isn't there a lack of support for a lot of apps? You just don't see app developers thinking "Hmm, I could make a profit by selling my app on Windows"

I would stick with Windows phone but you might not enjoy it because of the lack of app support. But the interface and performance - beautiful! Android, although easy to manipulate, as one mentioned here gets laggy as time goes by and I personally dont dig the interface it's a little too crowded for me.

I'd suggest you get an iPhone because the apps are  running considerably better and it's easy to get used to. The iTunes thing will be easy to deal with as you use it repeatedly so dun worry ^^

no.

there is less apps on WP than android's that true. But the essential apps are in WP aswell

dont forget that Windows 10 will open its support to even run android apps on windows phone. So WP wont lack apps anymore and WP10 is comming in a couple months
