DatFrackHead 374
http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1lhzhw/lack_of_dota_2_at_pax_players_being_told_they/ read it before you comment. so basically a gaming company doesn't want competition. how ironic. inb4 #nobandwidth as some of you know i am not a big fan of league. its bad. But that's not the argument here.(but if you want it can be) im not there so it doesn't affect me but from what ive gathered is PAX intentionally did not install dota2 and even uninstalling it at the request from Riot. dota2 being its main competitor in the Genre. i don't know about HoN however but that's irrelevant as that's a ded gaem. so in the competitive spirit of gaming why do u support a game and company that clearly doesn't believe. sadface 5,486
this is kinda low :/ Riot pls I hope this backfires at them. Like I don't have anything against LoL but these marketing schemes are a turn-off edit: just read the same article on Lol subreddit. there seems to be a better explanation there, but at least Riot doesn't seem as bad http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1lidug/dota_2_pushed_out_of_pax_by_riot/
heuieuu 564
LoL is so boring. All you do is point and click. No strategy (as much as LoL fans claim there is) or any sort of thinking involved.
DragonFury 3,019
Exactly what part of this is new or surprising to you? If Riot paid good money to get exclusive coverage they have every right to demand Dota 2 isn't played at Pax. It's just part of how these conventions work. It's just part of how these conventions work. its not surprising. that's the problem. but i dunno if you know what PAX is but to have a company pay to bar their competitor is pretty scummy. hence my last comment. and this just solidified my argument in why the community is cancer if it believes this is OK this is kinda low :/ Riot pls I hope this backfires at them. And this isn't about gaming competition (or the the spirit thereof) this is about business competition and this is a perfectly valid business move from Riot. It's no different from Budweiser and Coca-Cola paying to be the exclusive sponsor of the World Cup, just on a slightly smaller scale.

DragonFury 3,019
but it is about the gaming competition. why else would this get any attention if otherwise? or are you just choosing to not acknowledge what this is about? Gaming competition takes places in games, one gamer testing his skills against another. This isn't that. This is business competition between two products with the products being games. The competitive nature of games like Dota and LoL is wholly irrelevant to the nature of doing business and trying to make a profit.
mglsts 960
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/comment/27572111/#Comment_27572111[1] "Another requirement that we started making a few PAX's ago, for the sake of bandwidth conservation, is that all Freeplay and Tournament games that are played, must have locally install-able servers or sponsored bandwidth. This did cut out a few titles (such as Battlefield 3) that simply didn't offer a local server option. Other companies have in the past opted to sponsor internet. That is why there are a few titles that are popular in the eSports arena that are not being played. It's not that we don't want them, just that we have to ensure that the network experience for both the Freeplayer's and the BYOC users meets expectations." This seems relevant Ooops? Maybe next time read the comments on the same reddit thread instead of just the OP.

I really like seeing a variety of MOBA's being played.
IceHism 536
gg, volvo disband on a serious note, i feel that there wouldn't be much to say if Riot/Tencent didn't have a record of trying to stop DotA2 from even being allowed to compete. bad mannered business practices tbh

That's why there are laws to stop monopolies. That is not valve's philosophies. They're trying to grow an organic scene where sponsors would pay for most of the tournaments while they just handle the international. either way, Pax installed Dota 2 on the play computers now to show they weren't being bribed so this issue is pretty much settled and should be forgotten
