Why did SM wait until now to announce Sulli's departure?

If I'm not mistaken, her last performance with f(x) was in July 2014

Was it because she didn't want to leave until recently or because SM wanted to maintain their image (especially since Kris left not too long before that)?

Even as an f(x) fan, I feel happy now because at least there's a statement. I hope we won't have to wait until 2016 for Tao's

Because it's easier to control the "damage" when everything died down, same reason why they waited with officially announcing Jessica's departure so long.

I'm guessing SM was leaving it open for Sulli in case she changes her mind and decide she still wants to continue with f(x).

But now that f(x)'s comeback is imminent, SM cannot wait any longer and decided to accept Sulli's decision to quit.

they can't risk it for her to be indecisive now that the comeback is coming closer. She has always been SM's 'little princess' so they probably at the beginning let her decide on her own rather than pressuring to rejoin.

Or maybe they're waiting for them to ruin their reputation on their own so people would thank sm for letting/making them leave instead of blaming them

LOL I can see that happening

I thought she didn't know she was really leaving until recently. Luna said they would be back this summer with all 5 members. And now they don't know when they'll be back. Possible that Sulli recorded some songs with them before changing her mind. Also she went to COEX with Luna so I think she had intentions on staying at first.
