Questions on the Chinese Entertainment World (Novice Q's)

Recommended Posts

So I don't know much about Chinese entertainment and I have questions because t's hard for me to follow what going on there.

1) What is the difference between Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong kong in terms of the entertainment/film world because I feel like actors from these different regions are recognized by each of the other polities?

2) Who are the top actors and actresses in terms of the old and the new (by legacy or popularity)?

3)What are the best places to start getting into the Chinese entertainment (similar resources we usually have for the K-ent world)?

4)Is there any additional information that I need to know which would help? (For example, Anything that they differ in vastly from the other entertainment worlds)

Thank you!

1. Interm of drama world, there is huge different between Taiwan, Hongkong and Mainland China.

Taiwan is hugely and dominant by idol dramas

Hongkong-check out TVBs

Mainland China-period or wuxia series.

2. First of all, there are huge differentiate between Television actress/actors and Film actress/actors. Most of them only do one field for a long time and only recognize as one field. Alot of actresses/actors became popular as television actors first be4 jumping to film or just stay like that for the rest of their career (or they may starred in movies but it's only once every blue moon).

Drama Categories--ONLY FEMALE cuz I'm really lazy for this.

For Taiwan--the hugely wellknown among actresses are Rainie Yang/Ariel Lin/Joe Chen--they dominant of Taiwan television for along time and putting against each other as Queen of Idol dramas. However, all of them retire from that for a long time and rarely acting in Taiwanese series anymore.

Upcoming ones: I dont follow the new ones,

Hongkong-Charmine Sheh, Tavia Yeung, Linda Chung, Myolie Wu(they are still dominant HK television)-the new ones are still irrelevant.

China: Liu Shi Shi, Yang Mi (well she crosses to film now), Zanillia Zhao, Tiffany Tzang. I also wanted to mention Ruby Lin and Joe Chen but they are Taiwanese actresses that crosses successful in China. Both of them are really BIG.

However, in the film world, it is different story. The most notable people are Zhang yi zi, Shu Qi, Tang Wei, Gong Li, Zhou Zun, Li Bing Bing, Vicky Zhou, Fan Bing Bing et.

P.S  You pretty much asking the whole history of 3 different entertainments. It is way too long explanation and I'm already tired so yeah..

3. Sadly,  there isn't an active English-forum for Chinese ent. as K-ent like 1h,allkpop or Soompi.

But for beginner, these follow site will help u grab for overall knowledge of what going on.

Thank you for the answers from me, as well. I am interested.

Is there an English language on-line store that sells Chinese CDs, DVDs and media, like concerts and stuff?

The store that ships world-wide and is in English, so I can choose what to order.

Where do you, guys, buy Chinese CDs (on-line)?

I need China-originated site, because I can't find anything on Yesasia.

You summed it up so well...I am behind on my queen Myolie's dramas since Ghetto Justice 2.

The new Vogue China cover features many of the movie A Listers mentioned here.
