SMTM fined by Korea Communication Standards Commission: to pay upto 50 000USD!!!

Recommended Posts

Mnet’s “Show Me the Money 4,†which has been under fire for airing controversial lyrics without censorship, is being fined by the Korea Communications Standards Commission. Apparently, this is the heaviest penalty that can be enforced.

On August 5, the Korea Communications Standards Commission unanimously decided to enforce a fine on “Show Me the Money 4″ for failing to censor swear words and questionable content on the June 23, June 26, July 3, and July 10 broadcasts. The maximum fine is 50,000,000 KRW (~$50 000 USD), but the exact amount for this case will be decided at a later meeting.

I say BULLSHIT!!! If Korea cant handle swear words, they should not produce a Hiphop Show in the first place!

hahahah!   :hehe: i really dont understand why they are fining a rap show for swearing??!!!! thats absurd. like what do people expect when they tune into the show??....certainly not people singing about ponies rainbows and strawberry shortcake. :donthinkso:

[if mnet feels hurt and butthurt about this...lol i cant imagine blacknut or mino winning the show anymore.(oh no my faves) cause they'd be like you two alone just made us loose $50,000. (im just joking) hahaha.

at least my other fave basick is still on their good side.lol.

they will paid and fire the person(s) who edited those parts

didn't this happen to Unpretty Rapstar as well? but the season 2 and some of the line up were announced recently.
Mnet knows where the money is. These are like their 2 top reality programs atm.

the country only acknowledged this fact like 5 years later lol. SMTM used to not be heavily censored. but more popular is the program more it is. I mean because of the tatoos all I see of Jay Park is blurred tbh

That money is nothing to Mnet. Honestly, they should cancel SMTM all together. I'm tired of their try hard Hep-Hap BS.

Then don't watch it. I only skip to the rap parts for the most part and enjoy it.

Not this season.

The producers knew better but apparently wanted the media play? I can't seer any other reason for this. It's not like it's a new rule. If you don't play by the rules you are going to get hit with the penalty.

Is MNET cable or broadcast? And do the hours a show is telecast affect their need to censor? I am trying to remember if they keep the same standards there for both. I know they have adult shows on late night cable that are not held to the same standards like No More Show. $50,000 dollars sounds like nothing to some one here in the US but I don't know how much that would mean to a Korean TV show?
