Tbh, where i live, no guy would dye his hair those weird colours (not even something like blond). And guys who wear stuff like eye-liner are 404 not found and that is seen as excessively feminine too.

I showed my friends boy groups before and they all said they were *** as hell and ugly.

Their fashion was seen as way too feminine too.

 

Showing them Fantastic Baby and Shinee's Dream Girl was the nail in the coffin. 

 

Do you think that could be one of the reasons?

yeah. it's the same where i live as well when it comes to the entertainment industry. if a guy here would do anything a kpop male idol usually does he'd be mocked, sadly. but even though i grew up in such environment, i didn't find it weird when i first saw kpop? so i don't know, i don't think environments are an excuse for people reacting like that when seeing men dye their hair or put eyeliner on.

I'd like to point out that it stems from racism AND sexism, to be honest. It is an intersection of both of those that makes it hard for kpop to thrive in western countries. Not liking it when men express some bit of femininity, or seeing it as "gay" (which is confusing gender expression and sexuality to begin with) is a by-product of misogyny & sexism in itself.

The conditioning that men can only be considered as men if they express strong unshakable signs of masculinity is quite the harmful one. Ah, masculinity is so fucking fragile, if only a bit of hair dye and eyeliner can make in melt like ice under the sun, to be honest.

But that's the world we're living in, and that's fucked up.

enfait je m'en rendais pas compte avant mais depuis qu'il y a plein de réseaux sociaux comme Facebook je me suis rendu compte comment les occidentaux parfois super ignorant voir limite racist avec les asiatiques .

kpop would never be mainstream in the west.. I know most of them would probably change to eng language but imagine the horrible accent and the mockery that would come out of it. as OP said, most likely boygroups would suffer the most considered the feminime style

 

I dont think kpop need to "make it" on the west. The KPOP fandom's dedication is some next level shit, even f they have half of the size of most popular western artists their [kpop] fandom could probably outdo western artists.

Kpop just need the right promotion tbh.. and it will gather a huge niche market, enough for a lots of revenue.
