Are you a supporter of bipartisanship in politics?

It doesn't seem like many of you on here are, considering how Republicans and anything associated with that party is immediately dismissed. It's not unique to OH, most political discussions I see on these Internet seem to view the opposing party as an enemy and are completely unwilling to give consideration to what the other side has to say.

But why? Are people really so far left or right that they have to complete rebuke the political ideologies of others? I'd consider myself a moderate (in high school I had to take a test to find my political bias, it was a scale from liberal which was -60 to conservative which was +60, and I scored a 0) and tend to be more fiscally conservative and socially liberal. But I say tend, because I think fiscal and social issues are often intertwined, so on some fiscal issues I have a more liberal view because of how it impacts social issues and such. And I am open to have discussions with anyone, no matter what party they are from. I think most political ideologies have merit (and downfalls) and the best direction our country can take is to create a marriage of the two... Even if you do not agree with their ideas, is it necessary to vilify an entire party because their views don't mesh with your own?

I think the lack of bipartisanship is a big problem in society and I do find it crazy how people will blame all the problems in their country on the opposing party. It's never that simple.

BTW I am not saying being a moderate is best, but I think being willing to work with opposing political parties is necessary, and it starts with us, the voters...

OHers, do you always pick your candidates based on the party they represent?

And do you consider bipartisanship to be a good thing or bad thing? Obviously I consider it to be good, but I am still interested tomorrow hear opposing arguments.

The Republican party believes that healthcare, food, and shelter is a privilege, not a right. That and many other things that are morally reprehensible are part of their official party platform. So no, there's no way to compromise with such people, and to do so is morally reprehensible.
