Why I disagree on having Hyorin on Unpretty Rapstar 2

Recommended Posts

FIrst of all, let me start off by saying that I´m not a Hyorin´s hater. I think she is very talented and has one of the best voice among Kpop idols. However, as a Hip Hop lover, I just wanted to get some things off my chest and share my opinion with you all.

My opinion on this is that Hyorin is too big for this show and the popularity she will gain from the show will be a waste. Let me explain.

The purpose of this show is to discover raw talent, a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could shoot any talented rapper to fame; it´s also an opportunity to revive some wasted talent or to redeem oneself from past failures(Yuk Ji Dam). In that sense, I dont think Hyorin is suitable for this show. Why?

Because Hyorin is not going to pursue a career as a rapper anyway! She might want to challenge herself or it might be some sort experiment for her but it could be somebody else´s chance to shine. The thing is that, after the show, even if she releases a single or a mixtape, she will come back as Sistar´s powerful vocalist anyway and I find it unfair cause that popularity could have been a life changer for somebody else. I´m not looking down on her rapping skills neither am I against popular idols on the show. I´m against somebody who´s not a rapper to begin with and who will not capitalize the fame gained through the show. Why come on the show if rapping is not your first priority?

Jessi is a singer but was already known for her rapping as Jessica Ho. Even, since the show, she hasnt had any major promotion with Lucky.j: I read one of the other member is preparing a solo. That´s how far this show can get you. She never went back.

Mino is also already known but he is a rapper to begin with. Now, that´s a real challenge for me because although he can rap, Winner had been locked in the dungeon for so long that it was as if they never debuted. This is a chance for him to get out of the comfort zone and the show will help him as a rapper whether it be in Winner or solo, which is not the case for Hyorin.

I think another underground rapper or idol rapper will be better as they are greedy for this, it will benefit them in a better way. What do you guys think?

it doesn't really make much sense but its not like the show is supposed to be anything other than girl drama. an incredibly poor mans bad girls club with a focus on "rapping". Season 1 did indeed have some quality female hip hop musicians but its only natural that it would change going forward. not sure why hyorin wants to get mixed up in such a disaster but her going for it does do one thing. It detracts attention from Yubin who also shouldn't be on such a show. I love WG but Yubin is not a quality korean rapper. Hyorin and Yubin getting confirmed(right?) at the same time saved Yubin from criticism so theres that.

The only point I really disagree with is:

"The purpose of this show is to discover raw talent..."

The purpose of the show is to have the highest viewership, entertain ppl, and make money for MNET.

I respect the rest of your argument.

Although my personal opinion - I love to see idol rappers test their mettle against unknowns with raw talent.

It was denied that she'll be on the show.

as a hyorin stan if she goes on the show or not IDC .

and plz fake bora stan who are acting like they care about bora when you were the first to bash her for her rap skills.

bora isn't interested in rapping and that's why she's variety show and drama oriented

stfu don't talk about things you don't even know

This person clearly hates SISTAR yet comes into every thread having to do with them to bash our girls. It's kinda weird don't you think? Why spend so much time paying attention to people you don't like?  :derp:

Anyways OP, I'm confused too why Hyo was even considered for this show other than for the media attention her name brings to it... *shrugs*

cause I upvoted and agree that there is ZERO necessity for hyorin to be on the show..which is why when I found out I asked if people were serious.. theres no need for her...

All of the points made (or almost) apply to Yubin. I don't get why Hyorin gets all the hate. As an idol, they're supposed to showcase whatever they can showcase. If Hyorin can sing, dance and rap, why would she have to restrain herself from doing all of that just because she should let the others shine. You don't lower the standards, you try to meet them.

"Hyorin's not going to leave SISTAR and do hip hop": it's about the bigger picture. What if what she wants to do when she goes solo is hip hop? What if she's already harassing Starship's CEO with demos and requests, for her and SISTAR to do hip hop and UP is how she can show him that they can pull it off?

Everyone is so quick to judge and Hyorin is so easy to bash, why would you be mad or disagree with someone joining the show when it hasn't started yet? You haven't seen anything yet: you don't know if she's going to nail it, if she's going to be the most entertaining, if she's going to make the show... Lili Cham is a fan's favorite, so don't tell me it's all about talent and opportunities. If it were, they would have casted the best of the underground scene, not Lil Cham nor Jace. It's a show, they have to cast interesting and straightforward personalities and/or huge names to appeal to the general audience, and Hyorin happens to be all of the above.

1. Whether you are a fan or hater of Hyolyn is irrelevant here.

2. You whole argument is based on the idea that whatever popularity she will gain as a rapper will go to waste and that she is stealing the spotlight from some poor soul who needed it.

-Hyolyn is not just Sistar's Hyolyn but also soloist Hyolyn. By all accounts and purposes she wants to also establish her career as a soloist. Many people know her as a powerful vocalist but she has stated on more than one occasion that she enjoys rapping and hip hop/r&b etc is more her style than the pop music Sistar sings.

-Sistar will not last forever, no group will, this is a time for Hyolyn to prove herself and build a portfolio/music career beyond the name Sistar, one that will survive after the group comes to an end. She doesn't want to be a singer but a performer/an entertainer and that includes adding rap, composing and producing to her name.

-"The purpose of the show is to discover raw-talent" your words. The very definition of raw talent is powerfully impressive talent. Who are you or anyone to say that this doesn't fit Hyolyn. She is known as a powerful singer but she could very well posses raw talent as a rapper.

-Again Hyolyn doubles as a soloist when she isn't working with Sistar. How do you know that the fame she gets from this competition (if she is even on it) will go to waste. In the same way that she does duets as a singer or OSTs who is to say that she can't feature as a rapper on songs for others. Why should she simply "go back to Sistar" and not use whatever fame/recognition she would get from the show.

It's like saying a business man shouldn't jump on a new deal that will possibly make him money because he is already rich and someone else could use the chance to become rich. The concern of the business man isn't anyone else but himself and how doing this deal will better him. The same for Hyolyn. If this betters her in some way and she can profit from it that is all that matters. If someone else wants to make it big Hyolyn getting a spot on UR2 won't hinder that.

But Yubin is a rapper so even if she´s bad, she might improve while being on the show. The thing is that Starship has no plans other than theirs. Hyorin said herself that they rejected her RNBstuff and gave them shake it instead. I understand the challenge but that heat could be useful to somebody else. She has Sistar but for others, it´s a "do or die" situation.

I'm sorry but with that logic of yours I think it's better for us that we agree to disagree.

You got my point: She wont build up a career as a rapper, it will be as you said a new ability on her resume. Whereas for others, it´s a do or die situation. They will benefit more as their whole careers revolves around Hip Hop. So in my opinion, it´s a better investment for a rapper as this is a rap show.

No you missed what i was trying to say. That if she is on the show then she is as desperate for the recognition as a rapper as well. It will be a do or die situation for her as well...the time when Sistar is no more and she hasn't solidified herself as Hyolyn the performer/entertainer it will be dire. If she is on the show, its to set up the ground work. To begin doing what needs to be done.

That's the thing, to you it seems like somehow a person adding something to their resume will somehow detract from them doing another. No, especially in music. It actually adds to them as a musician. Then singers shouldn't compose because they won't be a full time composer and someone could make money writing songs for them, they shouldn't produce since they are taking away someones job or opportunity, they shouldn't play their own instruments. They shouldn't write their own rap.

"So in my opinion, it´s a better investment for a rapper as this is a rap show."

Why can't she be a rapper as well though, does she have to be only a singer?

If we go by your logic (since she isn't going to build up a rap career):

1. Jimin shouldn't have been on S1 because she won't leave AOA and become a rapper.

2. Mino isn't going to leave Winner and embark on a solo career leaving the group in the dust (since he will be in the group he can't fully "capitalize" on the fame from SMTM4 especially since surprise surprise he is already famous to begin with and doesn't need it).

3. Nam Tae Hyun shouldnt be acting because he isn't going to leave Winner and become a full time actor and some poor soul of a rookie actor could have used all those opportunities he is getting to make a name for themselves.

The list could go on, of all the people that we (our own opinions) believe shouldn't do something because we can't see how they need it, or because someone else needs it more. That isn't our place to say though.
