三代目 J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE / Unfair World

It's a pretty typical Sandaime ballad, but I appreciate that they really went for the theme of the song when they could have just danced like usual. The black and white scenes between the guys and the women they're paired with are very striking! The lyrics are so sad, though

It's cool to see an E-girls member in here, too (Ishii Anna)!  :ahmagah:

Ballad feels, gonna be singing along for a while

Music video giving me Ne-Yo's Mad music video vibes, dudes be dead and watching over their significant other / siblings.

Music Video produced by Kazuaki Kiriya, Utada Hikaru's ex-husband.

The music is nothing to write about, and it can be kind of expected since COSMOS was a masterpiece of them.

The MV, though. It's as uneven as interesting. It has very nice ideas and topics to explore (THANK YOU, MR. KIRIYA!!! Stripping, suicide, sadness and wow! Sandaime are capable of surviving without dancing for a bit! Please don't take this one line as a bashing, I just wanted to see a different music video than the regular ones LDH do with their acts. Also LDH fans, you know how my EXILE/LDH top-tier biases are DANCERS and I LOVE LDH people dancing like no other), but their execution in the video has elements that leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. The handful of concepts don't seem to form a coherent thread, and sometimes the MV has a narm factor. I'll try to explain: In COSMOS, it was Naoto trying to pick up that ring, and the narm was hilarious because it mirrors Elijah Wood's Frodo trying to catch the One Ring. This narm is making "so bad" a thing that it's good, but in Unfair World I rather went ".......". What are some things supposed to be?

To sum it up, this music video has a lot of potential and interesting elements that, unfortunately, have fallen short in practise. I do hope LDH count on people like Kazuaki Kiriya to add up some uniqueness to their music videos, and give room for something else than the usual boxed music videos. Again, it's not that I dislike music videos like 24Karats GOLD SOUL and JSB Dream, what I want to say is that they can also try with other kinds of concepts and maybe not only catering to the fans....

Also, I see what you did there, NAOKI, trying to mirror Alan Rickman's Snape.....

I think you're thinking too hard about this and overthinking C.O.S.M.O.S.

Unfair World feels very well put together (story-wise), whereas C.O.S.M.O.S. kind of just seemed like a typical Sandaime MV (random scenes of the guys dancing and looking nice...not that that's a bad thing!).

If you take Danseryu's idea (that the guys are meant to be dead/watching over the women), then the video and it's scenes makes a whole heck of a lot more sense. The fact that the women are struggling, that they can't see them (even though they watching them from nearby...ELLY even grabs Anna right off the ledge!), etc. Fits the idea of "Unfair World", too.

This is the sort of music that I've been wanting from them for some time...

and when they finally get to it, it's not uploaded in full

I love that your mind can be in so many places at once when watching the MV. Now, I cannot unsee Naoki as Snape...

There's a difference between incoherence and incomplete. The stories aren't meant to be detailed because in an unfair world we judge others without taking the time to fully understand their stories, so leaving holes in the story plays well with the concept. Having said that, they did get the crucial emotive moments and expressions for the song. There's never a blank or neutral moment, even the overview of the developed city and its great towers are wonderfully juxtaposed with the fragile tiny lady. This MV does live up as a visual presentation despite certain transitions between scenes being rough. The frames changed more often than needs be; symbolic shots like crying and walking in the forest could have been stretched out for a few more seconds. We were taken back and forth too often to the singers which disrupts the flow of the story. It could be argued that it reflects where they are; a place where there is no difference between them and their loved ones since they too are hurt by the cruel world and experiencing it just as intensely as the loved ones they choose to overlook. For that reason, I prefer to see them as the dead that are stuck in-between realms - couldn't selfishly cross to the other side because of love.

There were some shots that were simply stunning; whether it be details or emotions, they were strong. Balance in the transitions is the issue I had in some areas. The section prior the colour was nicely done though. The concept and sound are perfect to me. I enjoyed this MV greatly, and you're absolutely right about branching out for uniqueness because for a year or so it felt like everyone in pop was doing the same thing. Nothing was really distinct. Catchy and eye-pleasing, but not distinct...

Out of curiosity, what concepts would you like to see?

I liked this song, the clip is different from what they have done previously, especially when you compare it with their latest releases (JSB Dream, Summer Madness) but I agree with Psy that it jumps around too much and as a result I kind of only half felt for both the women's predicaments and the band members' storyline as well. It shows however they are more than capable of conveying emotion in clips, and not just dancing or standing around. Most of them have branched out into acting as well and were able to convey the sadness and loneliness appropriately in the clip without being too over the top.

Solid effort though, glad they are trying new things so they don't get pigeonholed into a particular music genre.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the lyrics? I've picked up bits and pieces in English, but I feel I would benefit from hearing them in total.

Yes, that's it, "incomplete". It conveys better what I wanted to say! But with your interpretation and Mandilinn's, it makes more sense.

About concepts? Ai Subeki no Mirai e from EXILE has an anime MV, BOW&ARROWS mixes live-action with cartoons...

I'd like them to explore something like....

... this? For example.

And yes, COSMOS is my thing, they could have made it a shojo anime opening/ending theme.

Oh, that video was not one that I every though you would link to LDH. I'd be impressed if they do attempt it. I've noticed that they prefer to keep things classy, and their most creative works tend to be with Flower. I wish they could take the time o actually individualize the other acts too.

I look forward to a concept like that, actually!

Yes, and I agree so much, especially when you say Flower's music videos are more creative (they also happen to be signed under a different record label, that may have a say in the concepts) and that they should be more unique compared to each other. I think Sandaime is somewhat departing from EXILE in things like music (less in music videos), though.
