"The closer you think you are, the less you'll actually see." Asian music edition

This little cutie (aka quote) comes from the flick Now You See Me (2013) and I think it can be applied at least to the often discussed shenanigans of Kpop and Jpop (Cpop and other Asian entertainment seem to be a lot more chill, at least in OneHallyu).

How many times have we been the "know-it-all", interpreting for example the frown of a K-idol as their departure from a group when it has been untrue? Interpreting hugs as shipping? We've been all guilty of this, and maybe the things their do are something completely different and we simply project our feelings onto those gestures!!!!

Instances of your sins? Have you been actual clairvoyants or you have simply thought you were close to the truth? Have you been pro/flop magicians at predicting J/Kpop?

Discuss!

I definitely agree with you, and that's a great quote. Specific instances are hard to remember, but I know that I've been either right or not even close a few times. The only problem with accepting and being constantly aware of the fact that we don't know the whole truth is that we would run out of things to have conversations about.

I predicted Kris, Tao and Luhan would all leave and I was negged into oblivion for that. Well now look, I love it when I am right.

And so many people on this forum are like that, we actually have users who think they know an idol personally just by observing their behaviour..
