Maybe its the term Mongoloid which was used to describe eastern asians a LONG time ago but the word is now used to describe people with down syndrome. I think that the change in definition hasnt reached asia due to a language barrier so when westerners refer to a person with down syndrome as a mongoloid, eastern asians think they are referring to them.
