Work that makes a mini album composed of 4 pieces

- From last fall to the present year, BUMP OF CHICKEN has released four songs, "Fighter" "Parade," "Colony," and "Hello, world!" were these pieces you made around the same time?

Fujiwara: If divided into smaller (fine) parts, at the time of "Fighter" and "Parade," we split off "Colony" and "Hello, world!" but they are about the same age. That's why these four pieces have that influence,  as a result I think it came to be that, "Because this song exists, this (other) song has developed this expression" These four pieces developed the feel of a mini album containing them.

-  Regarding the two productions "Colony" and "Parade" for the movie "Parasyte" in the last interview we talked about how jam-packed your schedule was. "Hello, world!" which was made in the same period, must have also made your schedule pretty tough?

Fujiwara: It was tight, yes.

-How was it decided that you'd make the theme song for the anime "Blood Blockade Battlefront?"

Naoi: Last year, there was talk of "there's an offer to do a theme song for this anime"  when our tour ended from our staff. I think that it was because I am a fan of Rie Matsumoto's manga and anime, who writes "Blood Blockade Battlefront," and I decided I want to do this! But when Fujiwara-kun  heard, I thought, " Since the tour is over I wonder if Fuji-kun will write another song? What'll happen if we receive another offer?" I'd say, " I want to do this, but I don't want Fuji-kun to die…." (laughs)

-Amongst the members, it was Naoi-san ho had the highest desire for this offer?

Naoi: Yes that's right. Everyone in the band likes "Blood Blockade Battlefront," but compared to everyone else I was the most excited on this occasion (laughs).

-What is it about "Blood Blockade Battlefront" that you like?

Naoi: That it feels refreshing. There's a way that's searching deep inside of people's hearts, and also how the  characters yell the name of their special techniques in battle scenes.

- You like the previous work of the anime as well right?

Naoi: Yes that's right. I think that the work of Naito Sensei and the supervision of Rie would become some of the best work. That's why I decided to talk to the members about it, even though there was worry if it would even be physically possible during the production period.

I CAN ONLY WRITE MY OWN MUSIC

- Did you meet with producer Matsumoto?

Naoi: In the past I asked her to please come to our lives twice, and we met when the live was over. Afterwards Fujiwara-kun and producer Rie decided to meet formally to talk about the theme song.

Fujiwara: I made arrangements. Could you say I made arrangements or was I just clamoring (laughs).

-Music Natalie did a talk with producer Matsumoto and tamurapan-san and at that time, just in the first meeting, the producer had various talks, like the philosophy of life rather than talk of the work itself. Fujiwara-san what did you talk about?

Fujiwara: We had game talk of " Have you done/played 'MOTHER'  before? How was Dragon Quest?" and "How did you become a supervisor?" I think we had a lot of talk similar to that.

- You talked about each others respective favorite things and through what process you came to be your present selves.

Fujiwara: Yes. Just hearing the stories were interesting.

- In the previous "Colony" interview, Fujiwara-san wasn't warming up to the idea of writing a theme song, you said you were looking for a part where the vigor, complexion, and the direction of the piece overlapped. Is it the same for this music?

Fujiwara: Yes it is. After all, I can only write my own music, something that I know, my experiences, my memory, the feeling I've come to have, and the scenery I have seen… I can only write about those things. So it's the same here as well. I think that's something very natural
