what are your opinions on i7 vs i5? should i stop being cheap and go for the i7 and cough up the extra $100+ ?

i'm not a gamer at all, but i usually have 7-8 tabs open on the internet at any time, mess with photoshop, burn some dvd,cd's,every once in awhile i have to make spreadsheets for work. would an i5 be able to handle all that fast, quick and smooth?

Do you really need one right now because more companies are incorporating Haswell chips into their products, and it'll prolong the batter life by a significant amount of time. If you could wait, I suggest you to wait a few more months if you're not in a rush.

If I were you, I'd choose the first one. Higher ram & i7 is worth the difference in price.

haswell? i thought intel i7 was the best out? i mean i guess i could wait a couple of months but my laptop now a toshiba satelite is already getting slow and sometimes doesn't boot up on the first try....it all started after i dropped it on the concrete :*(

both are not good for you, unnecessary graphics card

i3 could handle what you do, but if youre willing to pay the money, i5 is good

but really, if youre not going to play games it is very unnecessary, i3 can do what you do

^^

i'm also thinking of more of an investment too...i want something that won't get outdated and last me 4-5 years like my toshiba has..

Some companies like Apple or Acer have already started using Haswell, you can look it up as it increases the battery life by like 30-50%. Besides, if you want to use it for another 4-5 years, you have more reason to wait.

Yeah, it seems like your hardware is damaged, but I think you can still use it for a couple of months, make sure you save everything important immediately because you never know when your hardware given up on you.

IMO these are good options for what you need (back with more info)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%204020%20600003988%20600004344&IsNodeId=1&name=15%22%20-%2015.6%22

I'd go for the second one, the dell

look at the characteristics

and i recommend no windows8, seriously

but maybe you really just want a sony, but these are good too and you would save money

hope i could help

Your processor won't really matter all that much in 5 years.  I know you're looking to try to prolong a laptop as long as possible but that depends entirely on how you treat the laptop and the fact that computer parts will die out eventually someday.

Since you're not a gamer, i would recommend taking out the video card as they are really only used for video games and either processor will do well for you.  If you're into video editing or photoshop or programming or any types of those intensive activities, i recommend getting the I7.

8gb ram is good.

Also, i suggest you uninstall Windows 8 and install windows 7 but that is really up to you.  I personally can't take windows 8 but i can't say that for anyone else.

waiting a few months isn't a bad solution either

Any laptop on the market right now will be able to do what you want.  Just buy some cheap crap.  You don't need an i7 and you don't need a graphics card.  You certainly don't need the cancer that is Microsoft Office (trial version lol) when there are things like Apache Openoffice out there, and that trial Kaspersky software can go fuck itself too.

Imo it's not worth the extra hundred dollars if you're not really a gamer. An i5 could do all that and more. If it's just photoshop and ultiple tabs open, my boyfriend has an i3 and it runs good enough for surfing, programs and such. Even for games but of course he could do a lot better with an i5 or an i7. For non gaming, it's runs smooth and best I wouldn't ask for more if it were mine.

Do not waste your money on high specs you wouldn't really be needing for something specifically.

I just wanted to report this in for anybody looking at a sony laptops. there have been 30+ cases of sony "vaio" series laptops wifi failing or having slow internet connection since last month ,and sony still hasn't corrected the issue or acknowledged there is a problem! So i would wait on purchasing any sony laptop right now.

Of course it has to be the pc i'm interested in >_<
