General, a granary in the north has been occupied.
Six horses and twelve soldiers await your arrival.
The spike fiddle[1] speaks of the heroic deeds.
The defeated army retreats towards the south, away from the north.

T/N:

[1] 胡ç´: "huqin" is actually an entire family of bowed string instruments, the most famous of which is the erhu (two-stringed fiddle).

[2] 良人: literally "good person", it was how husband and wife used to refer to each other, eventually becoming predominantly used by the wife for the husband.

[3] 赤å£: the Red Cliffs, of "Battle of Red Cliffs" fame, are located on the Yangtze River. It was the site of a critical battle during the Three Kingdoms period fought between the northern warlord Cao Cao of the State of Wei and the allied forces of the southern warlords Liu Bei of the State of Shu Han and Sun Quan of the State of Eastern Wu.

General note:

In the chorus, the official lyrics say that the first line is "在我离你远去哪一天", which is grammatically strange (and which, if you really twist your head and squint, could be interpreted as "on whichever day I leave you and go far away"). So I have it as "在我离你远去那一天", which is sung exactly the same and makes much more sense. Given that the remainder of the chorus recounts what happened on the day "I" left "you", it's only logical that "I" actually know what day "I" left (specifically, "that day") and don't need to field a wider range of "whichever day" it was.

Thank you for taking up the request, I thought the song might have been so boring no one wanted to translate it.  Chinese songs about war and specifically about RedCliff always makes me sad.

It does paint a bleak picture: 6 horses and 12 soldiers awaiting their general's arrival; 70,000 dead.

Hmm I recall translating the main theme song that Alan sang for part two of the Red Cliff movie...
