I find it hilarious how many idols were media played to be on SMTM4

and how many of those who had articles about them actually had .01 seconds of screen time.

And then we have Seventeen's Vernon who no one even knew was going to be on the show until an episode teaser came out, and even though he wasn't the best rapper, he got hecka screen time and got positive publicity for his looks.

And even One from 1punch didn't have an article about him, from what I remember, and look at him now.

Proof that noise marketing and media play ultimately amount to nothing if the idol ain't shit. Companies need to take note.

I agree but the current idols on the show are doing really good.. One, Mino, Hanhae, etc.

Hanhae isn't really an idol idol. Phantom is more underground now, they haven't been on a music show regularly since Burning. And they're from Brand New Music so... And of course Mino is doing well for obvious reasons, and One actually has awesome skills so all their attention was to be expected. There aren't any idols anymore besides them.

Well mnet threw him into the visual rappers squad with that actor and One in the first episode. And then there was a lot of drama around him because people thought he didn't deserve to pass the second round so he got his name and face out there and k-netz still view him positively so he successfully did what he came to do. Maybe it did have to do with Pledis' connection to Brand New Music and then BNM's connections to SMTM, but either way, Vernon got something from being on the show when his company was completely silent about the fact he auditioned at all. Homeboy even dropped a track produced by Dok2 and featuring Don Mills.

I think by "ain't shit", OP meant that the idols themselves have no pull factor, something for us to notice in them. Like with Vernon, it was his crap rapping along with his rockin visuals. And then he dropped two mistapes that were pretty darn awesome (and liked heavily by Knetzs too by articles) and got featured with people like Don Mills and Dok2, so u know? He got a heavy response which started from negative but then turned into positive (for most part) even tho he got eliminated, and he still got the Knetz talking even with no marketing beforehand. One is also a good example. He actually turned out to be great and a fav for the win despite the lack of interest from knetz before hand.
