The year kpop started going down hill?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who complains about kpop being crappy in it's current state, because there will always be diamonds in the rough. But when did kpop's overall novelty, uniqueness, and creativity, the things that got early fans into the genre, start decreasing drastically?

I honestly think 2013. 2012 is very honestly the last year in kpop that I musically remember. I remember and still listen too a lot of the songs from that year, but 2013 and 2014 just seemed so drenched and overly saturated in new groups with fading quality and similar concepts.

But honestly, 2010 was the year when a lot more groups started debuting in one year. Sometimes I think the lack of something special in kpop is due to the market's fast pace. It's either comeback frequently and with eye catching, trendy music or fade after your five minutes of fame. And the influx of rookies is constantly pushing the oldies that failed to hit big quick away from the limelight.

thoughts?

It depends on when you became a fan. The newness wears off after a while.

Personally, I would say 2012. In 2008, they started getting their shit together, amounting in the wave. Around 2012, things started to plateau and it just became the same thing over and over again.

maybe ur just lookin at the past with rose-tinted glasses bc it all feels the same to me.

it did start getting over-saturated with the huge girl group boom and then the boy group boom but idk i'm just used to it now and it doesn't really bother me because i don't really pay attention to newly debuted groups that much.

2011 is when Kpop took the turn for the worst. 2010 was okay, but 2008-2009 was the true glory years for Kpop.

My thoughts tbh.

2004-2005(6) was great in terms of variety of music and a rise in Hallyu. 2008-2009 was huge in terms of just iconic hit after iconic hit and just this great pull the idols had through music and variety shows. That seems to be done now tho...

As OP said this doesn't mean there were NO great kpop songs after but...yeah...The fun, the hookiness, the campiness if you will...it died somewhere.

the only reason it looks like it's going downhill to some is because people keep pushing crap songs from popular groups who are going downhill and acting like they are the best quality songs just because the group is popular instead of actually just pushing great songs regardless of what groups it comes from.

I mean...it really depends. There are some reasons why kpop is going downhill in terms of originality and such but then you have things like Suju's "devil' which was really creative if you ask me.

But also there are some areas where they lack in uniqueness and is just following the trend. Because you know, sometimes kpop follows trends a lot.

Since the beginning. Kpop has never been good.

Then you must have bad taste in music because your pancake ass has been on three different forums supporting it.

2012 was shit in a basket. 2011 had a Big Bang comeback and GD&TOP. 2012 was when everything kinda went downhill. I'm sure the newer fans will enjoy the new shit, but nothing compares to that 2008-2011 era.

I feel like nostalgia is clouding your judgment.

Everyone's.  :imstupid:

I just think that overall 2013 wasn't a good year musically, but it's stable overall?

There are good songs, iconic songs, hits, generic hits... It's just a regular year.
