The son (guy in hat) pranks the grandpa. What had happened was that the couple had taken the grandpa around houseshopping letting him think they'd buy a house for themselves, BUT they purchased the house for the grandpa. It's just a misunderstanding from readers caused by the confusion between the subject and object of your title especially since you used the word "into". When you did that it made the thread sound like something else... the word "him" in the thread title makes it seem like you're referring to the son instead of the old man.
