Are you conscious of your race?

The other day, my friend had a job interview, and she told me that she probably wouldn;t get it because she's arab, and that it would more than likely go to a non-coloured person.

It made me think, if anyone else is always conscious of their race, like do you go into an interview thinking that your skin colour could hinder you, looking for a partner, making friends etc

and is it a good thing?

Ofc I'm conscious of my race . Black ppl dont really have a choice

do you think where you live can also have something to do with?

Nope. I never even think about it really.

I suppose this is the best solution, wouldn;t constantly thinking about it be stressful or even stop you from doing certain stuff?

I'm conscious of it, but i'm not cynical about it, like your friend, lol.

I don't think it is a bad thing to be wary of discrimination, but it is toxic for everyone involved to expect it to happen.

Yeah. But where I live, race isn't very much an issue. I never ran into an issue. Plus with my parents genes I'm so light as to where it's kind of hard to tell if I'm dark or not. But at the same time, it hurts to hear "but you don't act black" "you don't look black" " but you aren't ghetto"

Well I'm white so I have the privilege to never have to think about it. I'm also a stay at home mom so I don't really have to worry about job interviews or such.

I think she mainly does, because she's also a muslim who wears hijab, so she always preps herself for the worst unfortunately

As a Japanese, I used to get so annoyed when we're learning about World War 2, Pearl Harbor, etc because a lot of tryhards would usually say unnecessary comments. I eventually stopped caring about it though...

The worst thing is when someone is from a certain country and in history they talk about that country everyone will stare at you.

I'm also black but the thing is America is basically founded upon slavery and the discrimination of black people and even now it's still a fight to be treated equally (i.e violence against trans women of color), the whole confederate flag issue, issues on how white cops are treating minorities in America, even just tiny microaggressions and casual racist jokes so I think it does play a part.
