indiechingu 1,242 Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 The other day, my friend had a job interview, and she told me that she probably wouldn;t get it because she's arab, and that it would more than likely go to a non-coloured person. It made me think, if anyone else is always conscious of their race, like do you go into an interview thinking that your skin colour could hinder you, looking for a partner, making friends etc and is it a good thing? Plus with my parents genes I'm so light as to where it's kind of hard to tell if I'm dark or not. Well I'm white so I have the privilege to never have to think about it. I'm also a stay at home mom so I don't really have to worry about job interviews or such. I'm also black but the thing is America is basically founded upon slavery and the discrimination of black people and even now it's still a fight to be treated equally (i.e violence against trans women of color), the whole confederate flag issue, issues on how white cops are treating minorities in America, even just tiny microaggressions and casual racist jokes so I think it does play a part.
