I have a question about military service in SK

In my country military service is mandatory too. We have call-up twice a year during which men of draft age receive written notices. You have to enlist unless you have lawful reason to postpone(medical reasons, receiving education, pregnant wife etc.)

I couldn't find the translation of Military Service Act of SK but from what i did find my understanding summons to:

Men who have received or are to receive a written notice of military draft may postpone the duty fulfillment date if desired; provided, however, that they have a lawful cause to postpone(lawful as according to Military Service Act) and their age doesn't exceed 30 years.

So now i'm curious. My biases' postpone seems to be due their PhD&Masters. Do you know what other reasons can be?

I think education (as you've already mentioned) is probably the big one, and in the knetz comments it will pop up from time to time that XX idol only signed up for uni to avoid military.

And can't say for sure, since it's also based only on knetz comments. But it appears that some of the idols and actors can also use scheduled work as an excuse?? Maybe because Hallyu is considered an exportable product the consider concerts or drama filming acceptable excuses too?? (but like I said no idea if that is actually true).

I saw one actor mention that he got to go in later because his dad died, and he had to help take care of his mom. And I don't remember if it was the same person or someone else, but I also rememeber something about someone getting to do public service instead of armed forces for the same reason. Wish I remembered more details, but posted it in case someone else might remember/know who I'm talking about.

I'm not sure, but who's your biases?! And what are they getting PhDs in?

can't you tell? lol TVXQ. Yunho: master degree in Chungwoon University Graduate School of Industrial Technology and Broadcast Music, Changmin: Master and Phd at Inha University. Idk their exact majors though.

family reasons: deaths, handicapped parents/children etc. we have them too.

never thought schedule can be a reason though

Probably what Babogirl posted. Like I said I wasn't sure since I just got it from knetz comments. But reading it from that site it suddenly made more sense, and looks like it can be done for anyone who has work abroad and not just hallyu stars :D
