Not going to lie I'm a bit disappointed now. I really thought that Soonae would let Bongsun be with Sunwoo fully and realize her grudge is not because she's a ghost. Instead they made the worst possible thing happen, make Soonae fall for chef. That's just ridiculous and it's turning this drama into a makjang practically. Bongsun is supposedly dating Sunwoo but she spends no time with him.

And it looks like in ep 10 Sunwoo/Soonae have another kiss.

I'm so disappointed.

I am upset at this too. With how little we see of Bongsun and the fact that Sunwoo has literally fallen in love with a different person, how is this drama even supposed to end nicely? This is the betrayal of the century to him. I don't know what ending the writers are angling at, but the worst way to end would be if Soonae isn't really dead, or she comes back to stay the real world somehow, idk.

I would be enjoying the drama so much more if they included Bongsun on all the romance, and focused Soonae's development (possession optional) on the mystery of her murder. Soonae has become the MC, that just doesn't feel right considering how her story's going to end.

Personally, I much prefer Bongsun to Soonae anyway. Soonae's hyper-manic, one-track-mind behavior is fun in small doses, but drives me up the wall most of the time. Bongsun had some really sweet scenes with Sunwoo earlier, e.g. bicycling, the guitar.

I wrote that comment after watching episode 9, but now that I watched episode 10 I'm even more mad lawd. I completely agree with what you said. I just don't understand what the writers are doing anymore. Sunwoo think he's dating Bongsun. He said it himself that he wasn't sure when he started liking her, whether it was from the beginning or when Soonae started possessing Bongsun. So he clearly is interested in Bongsun but the more Soonae spends time in Bongsun's body, the more he gets away from the actual Bongsun. K-netz said that Soonae left Bongsun's body at the end of episode 10 (I don't get how they came to that conclusion tho), but it's still wrong.

If they make it like Soonae is not really dead or that she'll come back to life, this show will become a total failure. She has to be dead. it would make this entire show a waste of time.

I actually think the Bongsun/Sunwoo moments are the sweetest in the drama. Episode 7 with just Bongsun was my favorite. Bongsun/Sunwoo after they kissed and the fan moment in ep 10 were so cute. Ugh I hope they fix this.

Full disclosure: I haven't seen 10 yet, but I've picked up little bits from other comments.

It's funny, because I have the opposite impression as you. I thought that Sunwoo started off by falling in love with Soonae...even though he says he might have liked Bongsun all along, we never got to see that! Up until Soonae possessed her, all we saw for Sunwoo/Bongsun was him being stern with her. Of course, he liked her just fine in that middle period when she wasn't possessed (their kiss, confessions, etc) but then we got back to Soonae. It's very confusing...even though they have conflicting personalities, it's not distinct who he actually likes.

It's all frustrating and I think we're missing out on a really sweet and straightforward romance between Sunwoo and Bongsun. Fingers crossed that the writing gets cleaner in the coming episodes, we still have a little way to go!

Interestingly, I see it differently from you two. I see it as Sunwoo is falling in love with the real Bongsun. So what do I mean by the real Bongsun?

Before Soonae possessed Bongsun, Bongsun never had a chance with Sunwoo at all. She might be interested in Sunwoo, but being bothering by the ghosts all the time, she creates this "apologetic" Bongsun that are perceived by Sunwoo in the beginning. If things keep going that way, Bongsun will eventually drift away from Sunwoo.

After Soonae comes into the picture, she introduces an "Soonae" Bongsun that got Sunwoo's attention. However, he has never really been interested in this "Soonae" Bongsun. You guys see how he kept running ways from her. What Soonae did was giving Bongsun a chance to return to her true self and having moments with Sunwoo. Likewise, Soonae allows Sunwoo to finally get to see the real Bongsun. Sunwoo said it himself, he neither favors the "apologetic" Bongsun nor the "Soonae" Bongsun. He prefers the neutral Bongsun right? The real Bongsun!

That's valid. Still, what's even worse than the personality issue that is that all the important parts of building a relationship are happening to Soonae instead of Bongsun. Bongsun doesn't know the things that Soonae has learned (Sunwoo's past of being bullied, his whole situation with Lee PD). Likewise, so much of what Sunwoo knows about Bongsun is a lie. He thinks "Bongsun's" dream is to have a farm with a restaurant, that she never went on a trip, has never been to a theme park, etc.

For me, this is not a shipping thing, it's a poor storytelling thing. Who are the viewers supposed to root for? It's not that Soonae's experience of a loveless young life is not sympathetic, because it is. But if we know how her story is going to end (most likely, unless they go full makjang), she's not going to be in the picture at the end. So it feels a little fruitless to focus on her 95% of the time.

No, the thing is I completely agree with you and I thought the same up until these last two episodes (9 and 10). It was a big mistake to have Soonae fall in love with Sunwoo and then make her spend most of the time with him. Technically Bongsun is the one who's dating him but in total she had about 10 minutes of screentime in both episodes. I really dislike the way they did this.

I think they should have had Soonae being forcibly out in ep 8 and made her realize that her grudge was not bc she's a virgin. I thought that her being around water would have brought up memories of her being drowned and she'd realize she was actually murdered (I'm confused as to why she's not investigating the cause of her death more tbh). But now they've made a big mess.

I agree completely! It feels like a bait-and-switch, because Bongsun was made out to be the MC but she's barely a side character. I'm okay with Soonae being the MC, but I feel like they're missing out on the real emotional meat of her story—her figuring out the cause of her death and coming to terms with that. It's much more important than her experiencing love, imo.

  • 2 weeks later...

where ya'll at? i just binge watched till ep. 12, i am so obsessed. bong sun told him about him liking the ghost so I wonder how the story will progress now.

4 EPISODES LEFT I'M SO PISSED

Caught up! I'm thinking the story will take a slight tonal shift now that Soon Ae is actually contemplating her death. Hoping we get enough development of Bong Sun in there too.

Seo In-gook puts in a cameo appearance for Oh My Ghostess

Aw, yay! Seo In-gook, who recently wrapped up his run on the (underappreciated, sniff) KBS drama I Remember You, is heading over to tvN to put in a cameo on the hit rom-com Oh My Ghostess. It’s a friendly gesture for the PD and writer duo, who previously gave him such sparkling material to work with on last year’s quirky comedic romance drama High School King of Savvy, so he made some time in his busy schedule to put in a guest showing.

Seo In-gook’s cameo will come in the finale episode that airs this weekend, and he’ll play a handsome, elite, foreign-educated chef, which sounds like a role custom-written just to make our resident chef superstar (Jo Jung-seok) jealous. Which would be hilarious and adorable. I suppose if we couldn’t get him reprising his zany Savvy character (which would’ve been fun), I at least want him to provide comedy fodder for our lovable leading man.

It doesn’t sound like it’ll be a very long appearance, but I’ll hope it’ll be memorable and clever (I hate when hyped cameos end up being a five-second exchange and one line! What a waste). Especially since Seo In-gook can be so energetic and dynamic when you let him, and as we know, this producing team knows how to let him.

Oh My Ghostess has been having a great run thus far, with impressive ratings (breaking 5%) and generating lots of favorable word of mouth. (For good reason, I say; it’s not without its flaws, but it definitely has that bubbly, crackling buzz factor—lots of good fun.) It will wrap with Episode 16, which airs on tvN this Saturday.
