Avast is good, AVG is decent. Big tip if you use Avast though, keep the updates on manual, otherwise Avast will continuously scan for updates in the background sapping a decent amount of your bandwidth for nothing.

I think AVG is a good choice. haven't tried Avast but I heard good things about it.

I used Avast after AVG started getting annoying after I upgraded to 7.

The girl voice telling me that "Avast virus database has been updated" is very entertaining.

I used to use AVG, then Avast, when I was still on WinXP.

 

Avast is as efficient, if not slightly better than AVG in terms of scanning for trojans and malwares.

It's also light on the resources too, not like McAfee or Norton, resource hoggers.

 

Now I just rely on Microsoft Security Essential built into Windows 8. No issues with my usage behaviour as I don't share my PC with anybody else, and I don't install crappy nugu apps.

 

The rest of my family members have McAfee on theirs because they use Dell laptops (pre-installed with 1-year subscription) which I find redundant.

We have Vipre. It's not very popular but my computer hasn't had a virus since so I guess it works.

And it checks and asks for approval for every incoming and outgoing download and upload so that's how i know it works, you can tone it down if it's too much.
