[Appreciation] INFINITE's Hoya doesn't want to be a "sexual minority"

Recommended Posts

Throwback to the time INFINITE's Hoya was "traumatized" by the fact that people asked if he was gay- no wait, not gay, "a sexual minority."

Although he received a tremendous amount of love following tvN′s Reply 1997, Infinite′s Hoya shared that he went through a lot of inner struggles due to a misunderstanding.

"After appearing on Reply 1997, I heard people referring to me as a sexual minority. Even celebrities asked that question and it was really shocking to me," explained Hoya. "The trauma I received then was really serious. It lasted for a year since the drama ended."

Dong Woo, AOA′s Choa and actor Park Chul Min also mentioned Hoya′s trauma, saying people sincerely asked them if Hoya really was a sexual minority.

Dong Woo then explained that the misunderstandings happened because Hoya did such a good job as ′Joon Hee,′ and Choa confirmed that Hoya really loves women.

Thanks for clearing that up, gurlz.

South Korea has sooooo far to go on this issue NIkZtXd.gif The fact that they actually refer to gay people as "the sexual minority." Sounds like a nation full of really accepting people, right? I wonder if they realize half their international fanbase is gay twinks.

what?

If your asked none stop in hateful way than ofc it would be traumatizing.

The issue is not hoya but the people that were judging him for the chance he might be gay even if they assumed from only a drama.  Those conservative bastard  that think they have a say on the matter is what your post should be about.

nice try at attempting to bring Hoya hate with all your passive-agressiveness, like why even bother titling it as 'appreciation'.

Anyways if he was against gays he wouldn't play a gay character in the first place, and lets not forget the impact the character he played had by trying to turn it into a hate on Hoya thing.

edit: also he never said anything about not wanting to be a sexual minority, rather he didn't want people calling him one and talking about him as one when he has stated before that he is straight.

If an openly gay person played a straight character and then people started saying they were straight and asking if they were straight now that would upset them too.

Did they really asked them in a hateful way?

saying people sincerely asked

Or is it just a mistranslation?

If you watch his interviews and variety show appearances then and for quite some time afterwards, you can see that the MC's  really were coming after him and making implications as well as trying to trip him up in their questions.

In a country where being exposed as homosexual could ruin your career then this had to have caused him anxiety.

There is also always the possibility that he is gay and fear of being outed would have caused him a lot of stress.

As an LGBT person myself, I am not really happy that he said this but I can understand where he was coming from.

You have to give him credit for being the first kpop idol to ever be brave enough to play a homosexual character.

He even had to talk his company into letting him do it because they were against it.

During that whole time he also handled himself very well in all of those interviews. Saying that he was a person without prejudice and that he really wanted to take this role because he thought that he would do a good job with it.

He never acted offended or said things like how he can't be gay because he is a "real man".

Other idols have said that and it is always very disappointing when they do.

It's funny how Koreans are not ok with actual gay people and gay marriage but they're ok with all that fanservice and kissing on stage stuff.

this basically

btw since you have a seohyun's pic in your dp, may I ask if you think she supports gay people's rights or just don't have an opinion about it?. she seems to be very conservative so I was wondering about her thoughts. I know this is random but what do you think

Maybe. But if she doesn't, I respect that. I'm totally cool with it if she's not about that life. As long as she doesn't say anything stupid like a lot of idols have, it's fine.

Haha that means he's done a good job ^^ (I still haven't watched it yet T__T)

I know he didn't mean it that way but being a sexual minority shouldn't be considered as an offense

Btw how did Choa confirm that he likes women ? :hurr:

(hehe jk)

Years ago an incident happened to me which caused a lot of people to turn against me, I'd be called names, given ugly looks, and treated differently just cause someone started a rumor I was a lesbian. She didn't like me for some reason. -_-

Makes me wonder if that time would have been different if I didn't live where I did.

It's upsetting being attracted to a certain gender can cause so much discomfort with others. It's no ones business, but the parties involved.

Thank you.

Like these Kpop fangirls and fanboys reading gay (Yaoi) fan fiction. Or writing gay (Yaoi) fan fiction.

But they don't like gay lifestyle and gay people.

Which every time I see a gay fan fiction. I question them is they gay supporter? Or fake hypocrite?

If you're a fake hypocrite I feel sad for you.

This is so dumb....what kind of "trauma" is that?

Take it as a compliment on your acting skills

People asked because you did a good job in portraying a gay character
