PAPA YG CARES FOR KANG SEUNG YOON AND B.I THE MOST OUT OF ALL TRAINEES

On August 20, the press conference for YG Entertainment‘s newest K-Pop project, “WIN: Who Is Next?†was held to introduce the next potential YG boy group, Winner.

During the press conference, CEO Yang Hyun Suk touched upon a vast array of subjects on this upcoming project such as which team has the better chance of winning, his thoughts on Winner being coined as “the next Big Bang,†his feelings for Kang Seung Yoon and much more.

1. Team B Has An Advantage Over Team A?

First, Yang Hyun Suk gave a surprising remark on how he thinks the lesser known Team B will have more of an advantage than Team A, in which Kang Seung Yoon and “K-Pop Star“s Lee Seung Hoon reside.

“Many people think Team A will debut since some of the members are more widely known. However, as of the moment, Team B has more of an advantage,†he said.

He continued, “Team B has more members with incredible skills,†and “This will definitely make things interesting.â€

2. Winner Will Be YG’s Next Big Thing But Is Not a “Copy†of Big Bang

The CEO also displayed his faith in this new group by saying, “The members of Winner are the ones who will take care of YG Entertainment for the next eight years.â€

He explained how much of a huge asset Big Bang and other YG artists have been and still are to the company. But he dreams of even bigger things for Winner, as he mentioned that the survival program will air not only in Korea but in many other countries as well.

However, Yang Hyun Suk doesn’t want people to think that Winner will be an extension or copy of Big Bang. “The moment those kinds of words are coined with Winner, it will be a failure. For the last 15 years, I have not debuted a team that overlaps with one another. It’s my personal taste and YG Entertainment’s taste,†and “I will never do anything that is typical. This is what I need to work on,†he firmly said.

Yang Hyun Suk explained that he will make Winner grow and develop on their own to create their own color and style, just as he did with Big Bang. “If I do it for them, they cannot succeed. We are not a company that makes artists with money. No one will know the potential that Winner will bring forth in the future.â€

3. Papa YG Cares for Kang Seung Yoon and B.I the Most Out of All Trainees

When asked, Yang Hyun Suk picked Kang Seung Yoon and B.I as the two trainees that he cares the most about. “As I am also human, I am fonder of those who came to our agency first or those who worked really hard. But more than that, I like trainees who have skill,†he started.

He continued, “From Team A, Kang Seung Yoon has so much talent,†and â€œSong Min Ho of the same team is so good at rapping, I like him too.â€

For Team B, Yang Hyun Suk chose B.I. He also chose Bobby, saying, “Bobby is also very good a rapping and he is the first one to join the agency so my heart goes out to him.â€

“Honestly, I only meet them about once a month so I don’t really know the members’ personal stories,†and “I will also be learning about the members’ inner thoughts through this program just like every other viewer so I am excited.â€

4. Forget the Kang Seung Yoon of the Past

Papa YG continued to express his deep affections for Kang Seung Yoon.

“When he first appeared on â€˜Super Star K,’ I saw his potential. Just by taking in his rocker image, people may have thought that he would have done better in a different agency. However, I only saw 25% of Kang Seung Yoon and I wanted to bring out the other 75%.â€

He continued, “It took three years to create a Kang Seung Yoon who can rap, dance and sing not only in a rock genre but also an R&B and many other genres. At his age, he can do anything. He has so many good talents that it felt wasteful to just tie him to a rock image, especially with his single,  â€™Instinctively.’ Kang Seung Yoon has appeared before the public with his songs but in my opinion, he hasn’t even started to show you everything yet.â€

“WIN: Who Is Next†will start on August 23 and will be slated for 10 episodes, in which during the finale, the winning team will be decided.

1. How has your life changed since you debuted? (Mladen Minogly)
SEUNGYOON: I did release a solo album but I am in the middle of participating in the program ‘WIN’, so I am practicing and training everyday. I see more experienced artists still training and receiving lessons, and I am simply grateful that I am provided with an environment to do the same, which makes me work harder. I am still more used to being called the ‘trainee’ KANG SEUNG YOON rather than an ‘artist’.

2. How does it feel to be part of the survival program for picking a new boy group? (ë½ë€¨).
SEUNGYOON: I am becoming an expert of survival program… Frankly, when I first heard about it, I thought, “Again?â€, but now I am more desperate than anyone to make a debut with my teammates!

3. What kind of music do you listen to and what is your favourite group?? (Izabela Filipowska)
SEUNGYOON: I like any songs disregarding their genre (rock, hip-hop, R&B, soul and more). There are so many bands I like but if I had to choose one, I would say One Republic for a foreign band, and for Korean bands, there are the respected BIGBANG, 2NE1 from the same agency and Epik High.

4. While you were a trainee, what was the comment that was most encouraging to you? Go Kang Seung Yoon!! (조유진)
SEUNGYOON: The most encouraging comment would be what my boss YANG HYUN SUK, the CEO of the agency, said to me: “You are doing well now, but you can go even further than that!â€

5. If you could have any superpower what would it be and why? (Patrycja Piłat)
SEUNGYOON: I would love to have the power to turn back time. I want to go back to the past when I spent time not knowing what I want to do and use that time to learn how to dance. I want to spend that time more efficiently.

SEUNGYOON: I think I could be cute and charming… lol

[130824] WHY DID KANG SEUNG YOON GAVE UP EVERYTHING TO BECOME YG’S TRAINEE?

“I was a terrible dancer.â€

 

Anyone who watched the second season of talent show program Superstar K would know that this exact program helped KANG SEUNG YOON rise to stardom. He passed each stage to become one of the top 4, and since chose YG Entertainment as his agency.

 

Many questioned his choice. Why did he give up everything to become YG’s trainee?

 

That answer could be seen on ‘WIN’, which was aired on Mnet on August 23. ‘WIN’, a real survival program that determines the formation of YG’s new boy group, showed KANG SEUNG YOON sparing no effort with his teammates to win the competition. The winning team seizes the name WINNER to make a debut. KANG SEUNG YOON has already been training at YG for 3 years.

 

KANG SEUNG YOON said, “Since Superstar K ended, there were a lot of offers. Some said they would make me the star of Asia, and some offered a great amount of money for signing the contract. I chose YG Entertainment because this agency evaluated me objectively, unlike other ones. They looked at me as an actual trainee.â€

 

YG’s founder YANG HYUN SUK commented, “KANG is full of talents. But I personally hoped that he was a better dancer.â€

 

KANG SEUNG YOON, since he auditioned to join YG, has definitely gone through a transformation. He used to simply ‘move his body’ along the melody, but now he is one of the excellent dancers in Team A. He is in the midst of evolving. He said, “At the beginning it was extremely hard. I never had to use my body for dancing. My head would follow it, but my body couldn’t.â€

 

KANG SEUNG YOON recently made a solo debut, but it seems like he has not been blended with YG’s color yet. He is a great rock star but not yet an idol star or a real artist. And he is to complete his process of maturation through the program ‘WIN’.

 

CEO Yang commented, “I want to help KANG become a multi-player who can take in any genre.†Through the harsh survival program, YG is helping KANG SEUNG YOON become one of them. If KANG SEUNG YOON becomes the member of WINNER in 100 days, then CEO Yang’s mission would surely be accomplished.

Kang Seung Yoon participating in Mnet ‘WIN’ has been praised by the viewers as ‘This is the rediscovery of Kang Seung Yoon.’

 

When Kang Seung Yoon became a star entertainer through tvN audition program ‘Superstar K2,’ he mainly showed his playful and confident side. Thenceforth Kang Seung Yoon joined YG entertainment and  is now taking part in ‘WIN.’ Here he has revealed another surprising charm; his sincerity and excellent vocal skills.

 

In the ‘WIN’ episode that aired on September 6, although team A which Kang Seung Yoon belongs iwas defeated by team B in the monthly evaluation of June, the viewers assessed that Kang Seung Yoon was outstanding. Team A performed Alicia Keys’ ‘New Day’ and the viewers were impressed by Kang Seung Yoon’s unquenchable vocal ability and powerful dance movements.

 

He was  also highly praise when he displayed the fighting spirit while he was injured (and wearing neck-cast). He was unable to move his neck because he had to do both solo activities and team activities at the time. Despite this injury, he did not stop practicing even when he cried out in pain.

 

People who watched Kang Seung Yoon on ‘WIN’ enthusiastically responded: ‘I only saw Kang Seung Yoon of team A  on the stage yesterday.â€; “Kang Seung Yoon attracted me even when he was squelched with pain.â€; “I did not realize Kang Seung Yoon sang that good.â€; “Kang Seung Yoon’s song, richness and color of his voice is so much better now that it’s like he’s out-of-world or out-of-dimension.â€

 

Meanwhile ‘Win’ is a survival program broadcasting on Mnet and tvN at the same time. It broadcasts the process of choosing a new boy group from YG Entertainment after seven years.

IMO, the problem about Wild and Young it's not even being rock (especially because it's not rock), but it was just a generic song. Nothing memorable except for KSY's voice. If he wants to do something closer to rock, then he should try the same type of friendly pop-rock which CN Blue does. I mean... only if he (YG) wants some money~

I'd say it's still rock, just pop rock. Apparently that song was trapped in YG's basement for 2-3 years. And you're right. It was generic. KSY's voice was the only saving grace.

 

CNBlue doesnt really have any good/memorable songs. They're just popular coz they're pretty tbh.
