‘Athletic results… Cube over SM,YG,JYP!’

‘Idol Sports Athletics Championship’ has been an all-time favorite variety program especially during festive seasons such as Lunar New Year and Chuseok. This year is no exception either. This time round, MBC included curling to existing track races, archery, futsal and more. Fans of different fandoms are, hence, gathered in front of the TV to see how ‘My Oppa’ is doing on the field.

On 30th and 31st January, B Team was crowned the overall winning team. B Team is made up of BEAST, 4minute, BTOB, Secret, C-Clown, B.A.P, Girls’ Day, MBLAQ, A Pink, AOA and Roh JiHoon. The team members took the #1 spot with a total of 6 gold medals and 2 silver medals. To break it down further, they bagged gold for futsal, men’s 60m sprint, women’s relay race, men’s high jump, women archery and men archery. The two silver medals were obtained through women’s curling and mix relay race.

What made the headlines was the fact that most of the 8 medals belong to artists who are under Cube Entertainment. BTOB Lee MinHyuk snagged gold in men’s 60m sprint as well as high jump, while 4minute SoHyun bagged her first ever gold medal in women’s archery, especially after she breaks the runner-up curse. In women’s relay race, A Cube’s A Pink took their second consecutive crown. ‘Spider-hands’ Roh JiHoon contributed as the goalkeeper for the futsal category, in which Team B has succeeded in retaining their first position since last year’s broadcast.

In fact, when ISAC first ever broadcast was aired, Cube idols weren’t always grabbing attention with the number of medals. 4minute was always a step behind SISTAR in the group archery category. However, with the new addition of futsal as well as the participation of BTOB’s Lee MinHyuk, Cube artists seen a growing production of ‘Athletic idols’, and hence, starts to garner attention whenever they participate in ISAC.

It’s a result that they constantly sow. Cube Entertainment spoke to Sports Seoul  on 3rd February, “BEAST, BTOB, Roh JiHoon and their managers have come together to form United Cube Team and they will have fun in soccer or futsal every week. Everyone of them loves sports†and, “Similarly, Kwon SoHyun discovered her archery passion through ‘ISAC’. In fact, she participated in amateur archery competition and bagged a silver medal. Everyday is ‘ISAC’ (to them),†Cube Entertainment explained.

BTOB’s Lee MinHyuk representative expressed, “Lee MinHyuk is born with talents in sports. As he graduates with a major in musicals, he’s always disciplined in  managing his body and health. Therefore, he had gained good results in ‘ISAC’†and, “In last ‘ISAC’ where he made his first appearance, Lee MinHyuk revealed that he ran as hard as he could so that he could make a name for the group for he was just a rookie. In this year, Lee MinHyuk was utmost determined with a confidence that BTOB will do well in the coming year (if he does well in ISAC). Although he worried since he just got a ligament surgery, but he’s really happy that his hard work paid off,†he added.

Blessing and happiness follow those who work hard. Cube idols who think that ISAC is ‘a venue for them to communicate with fans’ are now running harder as well as having much more fun as compared to when ISAC was initially introduced. Hence, gaining themselves titles as ‘Athletic-dols’. Rather than the greed to bag gold medals and becoming overall winners, the results were merely just awards from their healthy lifestyle.

Stylish shoes multi-shop Shoemarker revealed on 6th February that they have chosen popular girl group 4minute as their exclusive models for the next 5 years, together with an addition of male models by the 7 members of idol group BTOB.

Being Shoemarker’s exclusive models since 2009, 4minute has once again signed an agreement to continue further with the company. Not only did 4minute played an active role in the growth of Shoemarker, the ladies have also consistently appealed the public with their trendy image. For this year, Shoemarker has also appointed BTOB, new partners for 4minute to portray even younger and fresher looks.

4minute expressed their thoughts, “We have been working as models for Shoemarker for a long period now, and it felt that we have grown alongside with them. As we are chosen to be this year’s model as well, we feel really thrilled about it.†BTOB members, too, spoke about their very first endorsement, “We are filled with emotions as we were chosen to be new models for Korea’s prominent shoes multi-shop. We felt honored for being able to work with our local best girl group, 4minute as well. We will work hard to introduce these shoesâ€, they said.

4minute and BTOB will be holding promotions for Shoemarker’s newly-released products this year, as well as attending various marketing activities to build the image of Shoemarker.

From what I gathered, Hong Kong paparazzi got footage of 4Minute going to the club after their showcase. I'm wondering if all of M4M was there or Jimmy was just in by himself visiting home. Either way, as usual Hong Kong paparazzi tried to spin stuff and said 4Minute got really drunk and one of their Korean staff members got hurt taking care of them. Read somewhere they interviewed the club owner and he said no such thing happened.

The way of producing content slightly differs depending on the entertainment agency. Take SM Entertainment, they depends on their own system, JYP Entertainment has Park Jin Young as core producer and director of productions, while YG Entertainment has 1TYM’s Teddy as main producer along with other in-agency producers he trained and helped grow.

 

In Cube’s case, we have in each of our groups a versatile member thatis capable of undertaking an “all-round†producing of songs. Not strictly stopping at the musical aspect of producing, but album concepts among other goals as well. In order for them to draw and develop it on their own, they received training in production and composition since, as early as the stage of the formation of their group. That’s when we form them to music production. Beast’s Yong Junhyung, 4minute’s Jeon Jiyoon and BTOB’s Lim Hyunsik are the producers in question. BTOB’s Hyunsik is also the son of singer Lim Jihoon who sang “Love’s Sleigh.â€

 

 

4minute Hyuna and Beast Hyunseung’s unit “Troublemaker†can be looked at as Cube’s most successful experiment. Through “Now,†Troublemaker stroke a series of hit as they’ve found a new synergy for the unit which can be considered an example that was rewarded with success. What could be the secret story behind the unit’s coming together and the process behind their activities?

 

From the company’s point of view, we were, of course divided as to Troublemaker’s debut. Because there wasn’t a precedent of a co-ed sub-unit that did well in the past. There also was the fact that the families [of both Hyuna and Hyunseung] were worried. But the song turned out to be very good. Moreover, in their respective groups both members are the representative members. These two friends could also give life to their performances as they expressed themselves. When we thought of these two mischievous kids coming together, it gave “Troublemaker†its real meaning. Namely “kids who cause trouble.†You could indeed say that this is the most successful sub-unit project.

The both of them must have encountered difficulties while promoting on their own “individual vs group†as opposed to promoting with their respective group.

 

Hyuna and Hyunseung don’t restrict themselves to the performance aspect of things only, they were involved in the album jacket and design of the album itself. On stage, the audience can feel the fun through their performance. The biggest quality wouldn’t that be the success factor of their performances?

[iNFO] BEAST is planning for late April/ early May comeback. Currently busy with Japan tour while preparing for new album at the same time. According to a CUBE rep through a phone call with OBS on the 14th, BEAST received many songs and have been undergoing recording. They are paying lots attention in keeping BEAST's color but at the same time, allowing BEAST to grow. (cr: myb2uty)
