One mother came to me and said that she was being watchful of her son because he was hanging out with "those degenerate gays" and I said "so blame yourself for it because that's the way your son developed in your womb and he didn't develop into a degenerate or a perverse person. He was born with a certain constitution you are trying to ignore. Calm down, you are the mother of that child and he began to be who he now is inside your womb. So the first one I'd kick out would be you because you are the perverse one who is first in line." That's what I said.

Why would I immediately think a gay or lesbian person is perverse or depraved the moment they approach me? That's how people who are homophobic react. It's a mental illness in which you see gays as depraved and promiscuous. You have to be sick in the head for that.

His response, while lacking of tact with the mental illness portion, is a good thing so I'm confused about the reaction.

I mean it's not perfect and still has some problematic wording but it's better than outright saying that the "degenerate guys" are going to hell

His religion forbids homosexuality, so what the hell is he playing at? Is he one of those child molesters?

His religion also forbids eating lobsters and wearin polyester. Never see many people complaining about that.

If you read the rest of the bible you would know why. Read Mark 7:15, just because the Jews (or Hebrews) followed the Law Christ said that its not what goes into you but what comes out. So we can eat whatever we want and wear whatever we want unless you chose to follow the Kosher diet.

Christians typically don't follow half of their religion, that's not my problem.

If you know they don't follow everything the bible says then why are you complaining about someone who isn't following everything the bible says?

So what Jesus said overrules everything? Because Jesus said do unto others which IMO should then overrule the "no homo" rule in Leviticus. Of course, Christians are so willy-nilly about what they choose to adhere to and what not anyone can pretty much justify any behavior using the bible.

and is it not obvious that he's being somewhat figurate in his metaphor of homophobia as a mental illness. obviously it isn't, but his point is that it's more morally wrong to be hateful of the children you brought into the world who depend on you for something out of their control (that is, technically, probably your fault).

Don't insult me. Jesus came to fulfil the law not destroy it. Jesus said those words because during that time Jews were obeying God with thier actions not thier hearts, they would do the sacrifices and diets just because not because they loved God. Jesus was making a point that if you eat pork or wear particular clothes its not going to damage your soul and ruin your salvation. Its what comes out of your body that would ruin your soul not what comes in it. Jesus was a Jew so he isn't saying that if you are raised in the Jewish culture of that time and still abide by those rules that you shouldn't, but don't think that eating pork will damage your soul as much as lets say....premarital relationships. The Kosher diet is good, but it isn't always required.

The "no homo" rule is in Romans also. Remember its not what goes into but what comes out....having sex with someone you aren't married to is considered coming out (no pun intended). Do unto others has nothing to do with leyting people do whatever they want because you want to...you should know the content of the context of the passages you are quoting

I do, but not only for homophobia.

Are you saying that every homophobic is a Nazi or from the Klan though?

No. I am saying that to be resolute against hatred is not a sign of hatred. We do not tolerate thieves, rapists, or murderers. Nor do we tolerate racists. Why then should "religious convictions" exempt anyone from the same scrutiny?

Whether Romans actually condemns homosexuality is a matter of debate. Especially since the second chapter of Romans says that by condemning other you are condemning yourself. As for your entire first paragraph; thank you for proving my point. If eating pork and wearing certian clothes isn't going damage your soul and what really matters is your love of god then why should homosexuality matter?

And if you're an adult that still needs a book to tell you how to behave and think then I'll insult you all I want because you clearly never matured beyond the age of 12.

Or maybe he believes in the positive values of his faith without mindlessly following the hateful and intolerant ones

Why bother preaching faithfulness and love when you're going to encourage ignorance and spite as well?
