-------- Overview --------

 

 

 

 

 

WACK stands for "Watanabe Artistic Creative KK (Kabushi Kigaishiya - Japanese for a Limited Liability Company)". It's a collective of 4 groups: BiS, BiSH, GANG PARADE, and EMPiRE. They're Managed and Produced by Watanabe Junnosuke (JxSxK for short), who founded the company. His philosophy is "Scrap and Scrap" meaning that he doesn't like stability, and enjoys shaking thing up. It's not out of the ordinary for him to make his groups run marathons or trade members. Watanabe's partner in crime is Mastukuma Kenta, the collective's Sound Producer who also contributes Songwriting. The long term goal for WACK is to create a parody of Akimoto Yasushi's 48G system.

 

 

 

 

 

​​​BiSH and BiS are at the forefront of the "Alternative Idol" movement in Japan. they are the brainchild of Producer Watanabe Juunosuke. A 3rd group, EMPIRE, is soon to be added to this stable of Alt-Idol groups. BiSH has become the most prominent of Watanabe's groups. The members of these groups are known for their unusual stage names like Momoko Gumi Company, Hashiyasumi Atsuko, and Pan Luna Leafy.

 

 

 

 

 

​--------- History --------

 

 

 

 

 

​BiS

 

 

 

 

 

​BiS was formed by Pour Lui in 2010. The goal of the group was the "uglification" of Idols. To this end, she and her Manager/Producer Watanabe used controversial promotion tactics and the group released disturbing MVs that played with the accepted conventions of Idols. This led to BiS becoming the first of what would be termed "Alternative Idols". The chaos surrounding the group led to a high turn over in membership, with only Pour and one other original member, Nozomi Hirano, remaining constant. BiS disbanded in 2014 after a final concert at Yokohama Arena.

 

 

 

 

 

​In 2016, on the 2 yr. Anniversary of BiS disbandment, it was announced that the group would be reforming. Only Pour Lui would return. Four new members were added: Aya EightPrince, Peri Ubu, Kikka Front Frontal, and Go Zeela. They quickly recorded 2 albums, one consisting of re-recordings of old BiS songs, and the other of all brand new material. This line-up would only last 6 months when, at the WACK Expo in April 2017, 2 new member were added from the WACK Auditions: Pan Luna Leafy and Momoland. In addition, Watanabe traded Aya to GANG PARADE and brought former BiS member and GP's co-Founder and Leader, Kamiya Saki, back into the fold.

 

 

 

 

 

​This new 7 member BiS would release 2 Singles "SOCiALiSM" and "I can't say NO!!!!". At the group's October 6th "Idol Is Dead" concert, it was announced that BiS would make their Major Label debut for the 2nd time in March of 2018. At the WACK Fest in December 2017, Watanabe announced that the Trade would end in April of 2018.

 

 

 

 

 

BiSH

 

 

 

 

 

​​Known as the "Instrument-less Punk Band", BiSH was formed in March 2015 and debuted in May of the same year. They were intended to be the successor to BiS, Watanabe's first group, which had disbanded in 2014. They quickly became known for their shocking videos and the chaotic atmosphere surrounding their live concerts.

 

 

 

 

 

The original line-up consisted of Aina The End, Cent Chihiro Chittiii, Momoko Gumi Company, Hug Mii, and Yukako Love Deluxe. Yukako withdrew from the group before their official debut. Shortly afterwards two new members, Hashiyasumi Atsuko and Ling Ling, would be added to the group in August of 2015. In August of 2016, their newest member, Ayuni D, was added to the group.

 

 

 

 

 

​On Nov. 4th 2017, BiSH surprised their fans by releasing a Tower Records exclusive version of their upcoming 2nd Album, THE GUERiLLA BiSH, before the official release date on Nov. 29th, 2017 (hence the name of the album). Priced at 299 Yen, it doesn't include cover art or a booklet. This "surprise" edition was available until Nov. 5th and sold out quickly.

Kind of sad that this thread isn't active when I recently got into them after hearing their album on googleplay. Aina the End's voice really caught my attention during their songs.

 

I forget this thread exists  I thought about taking over the OP, but there's just not that many Bish fans on OH. Aina really is an amazing vocalist. Chihiro is close behind her. There's an interview that someone translated that gives a good idea of their personalities. I'll dig it up and post it later.

Thank you. And I agree. When I was listening to their album, Aina's voice really caught my attention and when I was watching their live on youtube yesterday she was impressive but I was also amazed by Chihiro. She is very stable.

Their new album is great. Amazed that Momokogumi Company wrote the lyrics to Marionette and Nothing, Hashiyasume Atsuko wrote the lyrics to Shakai no Rule, and Linlin wrote the lyrics to Vomit Song.

 

 

Talent! I'm glad the girls are part of the song writing process. Sounds like they're really invested in the group. Of course Lin Lin would write the lyrics for Vomit Song, lol.

I didn't finish reading the second part of the interview until now. It's interesting there was so much talk about becoming a HelloPro type organization. I've been wondering if Watanabe is aiming to create and Alternative-Idol empire (why else reform BiS?). There's definitely an audience for it. I just don't want it to get out of control and decline like H!P did.

 

I didn't realize Lin Lin was at C-ute's final concert. I could feel the love

 

Seems like their Makuhari live was a success. I'm amazed how Ling Ling can scream like that and then go right into singing lol.

 

 

Lin Lin used to have trouble with this, but she's gotten allot more consistent. I just hope she takes care of her voice.

Now the Saint Sex Unit makes even more sense. It was leading up to the album. Super excited for this! I've been looking for info on Empire, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there. They're supposed to be the next group to follow in the footsteps of BiS and BiSH, but all I've found are some auditions. They made an appearance at a BiSH concert over the summer, but that's about it.

I can't find much info on them either. All I was able to find is that they first had their faces covered except their eyes and they announced that they would reveal their faces when their followers reach 10k but YU-Ki EMPIRE's followers grew unnaturally fast and they found out fans were buying followers or something so even if they reached 10k followers, they didn't reveal their faces until 9/28. I found their profiles but it's not official so I don't know if it's a trustworthy source. I will translate it when I find an interview or something with more info.

 

All the members are so pretty...

 

Edit: They're going to have a unveiling/introduction live on 11/23 so maybe more info will start coming out then.

 

I remember when the Empire members appeared at that BiSH Concert wearing those robes. I was hoping they wouldn't have to wear those permanently. It never occurred to me that it was to hide their appearance. With Watanabe's voice on the Soundcloud songs, demos probably, this makes even more sense that they're maintaining secrecy about everything until the unveiling. This has really got me hyped for their debut.

 

I'm curious what kind of concept Empire will be doing. BiS is really weird and intense while BiSH is edgy, but more accessible. I guess they'll either stay in the same vein as these groups or do something completely different.

They've actually already unveiled their faces. My understanding is that they wanted each of their twitter accounts to reach 15k followers, but I guess they gave up on that idea. Watanabe singing the songs, is probably just because it's Watanabe and he's being weird.

Just checked YouTube and this popped up. Totally caught me by surprise  Such a beautifully shot MV. The most cinematic one they've done so far. I Love the new costumes. The red is so striking. Interesting that they've gone back to the sound of Promise the Stars and Orchestra for this single. It's probably their most accessible type of sound, so I can understand why. I'm happy that they shot overseas. Proof that Avex wants to invest more in them.

They've gone out of their way to keep the girls in very uniform outfits this year so it's not something I was expecting. They're still a fairly new group, so it makes sense to add elements like official colors over time.
