Korean speakers, about Exo-M...

Luhan. His accent was the best and he also seemed to understand the most, he was just quiet bc of his shyness.
I hate to say Kris was next, his biggest problem was slurring his every word--but he was confident and spoke a lot and he was..moderately intelligible.
Lay's 3rd.
Tao's last.

LOL, Kris doesn't know how to enunciate in any language he's speaking in. I call him Captain Mumble Mouth for a reason. Lovingly, of course ~

Legit. I could understand the other Exo-M members' English better than his, and he spent a good chunk of his life living in Canada.

I don't speak Korean but I know Tao could only say "anyohaseyo oppa" when he first started training (lol it creeped Xiumin out, it is a famous story).  The other three had a couple extra years training in Korea before him, he got "airbombed" into the band quite near debut so he pretty much started from zero, lol, poor baby struggled so hard when I first became a fan in 2013.

But he got a lot better in 2014!!

I'm korean >.<

It was Luhan...to the extent that my mom thought he was a korean member because I made her watch a few episodes of showtime with me.

Very good pronunciation...she was really shocked when I told her he wasn't Korean lol

It's commonly accepted that Luhan had the best Korean out of M (Quite funny, but during the first showcase in Seoul, a Korean fan who thought all of M was Chinese commented that Xiumin and Luhan had the best Korean out of the group. Yep, better than Chen's  ). But if you want details about each member, that's what a Korean fan said back in 2014 :

From my observation of Chinese members, Tao speaks well (has improved a lot) but can't read well.

Lay can read Korean well (this is what his members said in a radio show last year), but isn't very fluent in his speaking.

Luhan's pronunciation is good and I believe his understanding is really good as well, but he gets lost in the middle of speaking a lengthy Korean sentence. His Korean is not as fluent as many people seem to believe, but his handwriting is very neat and fluid.

Kris can speak Korean quite fluently but uses short simple sentence patterns, and sometimes he doesn't understand quite ordinary Korean words.

Luhan! I think he speaks really clearly, and he seems to know what he wants to say. I used to mimic Luhan's way of speaking Korean when I had problems with the language, and it was pretty helpful.

But, I'm most impressed by Tao. He made a lot of progress in two years though that kid's grammar/vocab is horrible.

Luhan. He always speaks clearly not only Korean, but also English and Chinese. His accent is the best.

I remember Xiumin said that he thought Luhan was Korean when he first knew him. Then when he saw Luhan talking with other Chinese members he thought "This Korean's Chinese is good" lol

I mean the other exo-m members english were okay but... they weren't better than Kris let's just not do that.

Of course their English wasn't better, it was just easier to understand. Kris mumbled all the time and had bad enunciation.

Pronunciation-wise ? Definitely. Kris' enunciation was terrible even without knowing he lived here for so long.

That's not quite true. English is the only language he "slurs" in and even that slurring is because of his accent (that a lot of Chinese Canadian immigrants have by the way). He's perfectly understandable in Chinese, Cantonese, Korean and yes, even English.

Mimicking a pronunciation is no where near close to actually being fluent in the language. He "slurs" because it's not practiced, because he's fluent. It's easy to mimic the pronunciation of a word or sentence if that's just what you're doing and you're not actually able to communicate with it.

I'm not necessarily talking about the comments on this thread, but I've noticed here and elsewhere that some people seem to want to say that Kris is not fluent in English because of his accent, or that it doesn't make him a decent speaker of the language or something. But dude can conduct interviews in English (Arirang interview, Women's Wear Daily interviews here and here, talking to Rob Moore here), he has friends whom he can only communicate with in English, he meets a lot of international celebs in events and leaves a great impression (which means they understood him).. etc. It's just really weird to me how people are willing to knock him down or his ability to speak English just because his accent is not neutral or standard.

I'm confused about this too, his English sounds like a native speaker. I thought he was an actual Canadian for a long time, just that he was having a little language interference that made him speak slower.
