Will the term "performers" become a thing in kpop?

So, seventeen is sort of pioneering the concept of having different sub-units within their group, a vocal unit, a rapper unit, and a performance unit. The performance unit contains, in my opinion based on lines overall, the members who aren't the best at singing or rapping, two of the four having literally 5 words in their debut song, Adore U.

So now to my main point. The idea of designated performers has been seen in jpop in the e-girls and their respective groups and in exile and all that. In their terms though, it's the members that only dance and do not sing. But could this become a thing in kpop? Members who only dance and do not have lines, but are still a part of the group? Because there are already groups where members get one line n every song which basically amounts to nothing. So do you think that having designated "performers" could become a thing and actually work in kpop?

I think it could, why not? Fans will eat it up and just say that they're good dancers. imo in some occasions it would be better, bc some people struggle with even the small amount of lines they are given.

And it's interesting that you brought up jpop bc I remember in the first Shoujo Jidai album the dance line barely had any lines.

I am not sure AOA tried to do a dancing unit + band unit and that didn't work out too well, but this is somewhat different and seventeen is a boy group so it might work for fangirls.

Really it might attract fangirls, but it will probably be too complicated for the general public.

may i just point out how seventeen's performance unit are the dancers, they're trained in dancing above anything else, and they're called 'performance' unit because they put together their performances, such as choreographing (like how hoshi choreographed adore u and shining diamond)

I know that... The performers in e-girls have also had a hand in choreography.  You basically said what I said anyway. They are the "dancers".

what's the point... what differentiates them from backup dancers then? I appreciate backup dancers a lot but I expect an idol to be able to carry a tune at the least.

There is no point. A dancer named HIRO years ago wanted attention for dancers in the music industry even though they couldn't sing.

i've been wondering the same thing actually, but idk if kpop would wanna do that?

i actually really like the system of egirls and EXILE, it's very interesting, but it works

and even though the performers only "dance" they still have a lot of stage presence -- they're not like back up dancers and they get a lot of screen time too

also, they can focus solely on dancing/performing~

In 17's reality show thing, the performance unit got no.1 from the judges bc they had a story in their dance/performance, engaged the audience without words, made it funny, etc. Something like that. So maybe it's going to work, since it's supposed to more than pure dancing? Hence 'performance unit' instead of 'dance unit'. The perf unit can really dance though, with a bboy and all. It's not like they are the leftover untalented ones. Idk really...

?

Well if you knew anything about their mini album you'd know each unit has their own individual song.... And like others said, they are not untalented or the "leftovers"

I never said they were untalented or leftovers though???? I'm just saying they focus more on dance and I went on to wonder if performers by jpop definition in groups could become a thing.

you guys are acting like I dissed Seventeen when I was using it as an example for my main point.

it could, but i doubt anyone would like the idea. you already see many people complaining about how their faves barely get any lines/no lines at all so.... and i think that if you're not singing/rapping the camera won't focus on you for individual shots = less chances of getting recognized

But I mean, if they did it right like e-girls, everyone would get their face shots and and dance breaks. But, yeah, I don't think Korea is ready for a concept like this yet, though it might be well accepted by I-fans.

but i didnt accuse you of saying it.... i just didnt want people to get the wrong idea that they were untalented because thats what people associate with members that only have a few lines
