  1. 1. Who do you want Hong Seol to end up with?

  2. 2. Is Yoo Jung a misunderstood hero or truly apathetic towards others?

    • He's just misunderstood!/ His actions are justified.
    • He clearly lacks empathy and is borderline sociopathic./#Pray4Seol
    • I just love him <333

I wasn't going to watch this drama until I found out it had the same PD as Coffee Prince.

Just finished watching Episode 2.

The male lead looks too old to be playing someone in their 20's.  I know the actor is like just 33 or something but IMO he could pass for 42.  Very handsome.  Just too mature looking.

The cinematography is nice.  Like all K-Dramas there is still awkwardness in the pacing, editing, and/or screenplay but this series seems to have less of those problems.

After the 1st episode the only characters I liked were Bora, Euntaek, and Professor Kang (because she's funny) but after the 2nd episode I warmed up to the two leads.

The 2nd male lead is so hot but his character/acting is kind of annoying.  I forgive him though because he's hot.

With so many asshole side characters, it makes me wonder how growing up in such a community/society/culture is like. I heard about college students sabotaging each other, but this is next level.  I must not have attended very competitive schools or was just very unobservant of the Type A personality folks.  (I'm referring to Western-style Type A, not Eastern blood-typing.)

Just caught up by finishing Ep 6.

The younger guys in this drama (Inho, Euntaek, Jun) are just too much.

How much adorableness can I take?

The acting in this drama is pretty good. I give most of the credit to the PD and casting director.

Kim Go Eun is a good actress and I hope she has a bright future.

My favorite scenes thus far have involved HS and Inho but I like her better with YJ because they suit each other well even with all the misunderstandings and awkward situations.

PHJ looks more like a TA than a student to me but he plays YJ well. I can't believe he's like 10 years older than SKJ and 11 years older than NJH.

Finished Episode 10 yesterday and:

I LOVE CAT FIGHTS.

I also enjoy Bora being mean to Minsoo and Younggon being bat shit crazy.

Nam Joohyuk is so adorable. Kim Heechan is so cute. And Seo Kangjoon is the gift that keeps on giving.

I prefer PHJ's flirty acting to his emo acting. I wonder if they let Lee Sungkyung act that way or told her to act that way.

Most of the side and supporting characters seem mentally ill because they are always talking to themselves (The Baek siblings and Younggon especially). The screenplay has too much v/o and monologue.

Just finished Episode 12.

Yoo Jung really scares me.  People like that scare me.  It's probably because I'm like Inho...always running my mouth.

It kind of reminds me of Old Boy (the scariest story OF ALL TIME).  Inho being the main character in Old Boy and Yoo Jung being like the people who set up the main character.  All just because of some words.

I understand that Yoo Jung felt hurt and betrayed.  But did Inho really ruin Yoo Jung's life by saying what he said?

Any way...I think Yoo Jung needs Seol more than Inho does.

Actions speak louder than words.

With that stated:  Which is more evil?  Evil words or evil actions?

Just finished Episode 13

I guess this is where the show became the BIH show. And I admit: I don't mind. I like it when a character I like is struggling and can't be with the person they love. I guess I'm a sadist.

But BIH'S scenes with Yoo Jung and his dad were awkward. Yoo Jung's dad seemed out of character.

I'm only on Episode 14:

I'm very different from the most of you. I don't know where you were raised, what type films/TV shows you like to watch outside of K-Dramas, or what types of books you have read but...

Episode 14 was good.

1. The scene in the snow with Bora and Eun Taek was SO CUTE! (Though the set up for it was rather cliche.)

2. The scene at the bar with Seol, Sang Chul, Baek Inha, and Jae Woo was so well done (Well, except for the vomit sound effects...those were poorly done.) The facial expressions LSK made when BIH and JW sat down with Seol and SC: Excellent. How BIH and JW had an overlapping conversation while SC was half-vomiting/half-confessing to Seol thru a bathroom door: Nice. And the aesthetics of the scene: BIH in a burgundy coat against the yellowish BG while Seol and SC were in the dark: Symbolism. (Knowledge/enlightenment v. Ignorance/denial)

PHJ also did well in this episode. He really portrayed Yoo Jung's dichotomy of friendly/polite yet ruthless. In Sangchul's flashbacks, I felt the suppressed glee coming from him. Excellent.

The end of this episode felt like one of those gangster movies where the wife stands by her man. Especially Laura Linney at the end of Mystic River.

Just watched Episode 15.

Didn't Seol warn Yoo Jung at the beginning of the episode that everything he does will come back to him? Did he listen? No.

What is the take-away message from this episode?

a) An eye for an eye only creates more blindness.

b) Don't do the dirty work for a guy unless you can get alimony from him.

c) Don't mess with someone crazier than you even when you're more powerful and have more resources.

d) Don't lie to your parents about spending the weekend with your bestie when you're actually going on a dodgy holiday with your boo: Bad things will happen.

e) All of the above.

Fans of a certain actor are bonkers. The supporting actor does not seem like the lead. (Though that library scene with the two coffees was so extraneous.)

I view this show as an ensemble drama with Seol as the lead. But fans are correct that the PDs falsely advertised/marketed the drama as a (singular) star vehicle when it became an ensemble piece.

I like ensemble dramas so I don't mind.

PS. I was so happy when Jun and Young Ah showed up again. I thought the screenwriters forgot about them.

And I really like Jae Woo with In Ha. Even the psychos deserve some love.

Just finished episode 16:

That was nice. Not great, but nice.

It ended on a hopeful note for the main couple plus even the mentally unstable girl got a guy. In Ho forever alone with his piano; the world's tiniest violin is playing a sad song for him.

I like how In Ho took the blame for what happened to Seol even though like 90% of this thread's participants said he doesn't take responsibility for anything. And I like how the Hong family realized he was powerless between the forces of YJ/ In Ha and eventually forgave him.

I also like how Yoo Jung finally realized his obsession with revenge could be harmful to his loved one. He's a generally good guy with a personality disorder. In Ha is still emotionally labile af but I'm glad she didn't end up alone. I actually really like how In Ha ended up with Jae Woo. It's a redemptive and hopeful message. I guess I like the lead PD for a reason.

And the part where Seol starting working and there were people similar to those who annoyed her in school...so true. Every where you go the same type of people show up. Everyone is unique in the details but in the big picture, there's a lot of people who fit a type.

I don't know what the majority of you were expecting. Is it because you don't like feeling sad or seeing difficult times for your favs? Life is tough. Get used to it.

The most sympathetic characters in this drama for me were Seol, her mom, and Jae Woo. All so hard working and long suffering. Though I also sympathized with In Ho, Yoo Jung, and even Sang Chul and YJ's dad. The most unsympathetic were Young Gon and In Ha. It was actually super awkward when In Ha showed up to meet Jae Woo while Seol was looking on. Eun Taek was the most lovable character.

And since I was spoiled for the time skip I kept on thinking: When is going to happen? When is it going to happen?

I just realized the 2 most studious characters (Seol and JW) ended up with the psych issue hotties (YJ and In Ha).
