  1. 1. Who do you want Hong Seol to end up with?

  2. 2. Is Yoo Jung a misunderstood hero or truly apathetic towards others?

    • He's just misunderstood!/ His actions are justified.
    • He clearly lacks empathy and is borderline sociopathic./#Pray4Seol
    • I just love him <333

Is that the main guy?

I'm wayching it rn; I'm on episode 4 or 5

And people kept saying that but I'm like...it's not even

The only fucked up thing he did was spilling water on the girl, playing the nice guy on the first episodes

And then we find out he did more good than bad in his own ways

does he do something fucked up in later episodes ?

Like this is tame

girl when you reach episode 7-8 call me back

Personally think sociopath is a bit extreme. Just calculative/manipulative. I think the reaction is because there hasn't really been a 1st lead like this before in a drama. But yeah, you may change your mind by Ep 7-8 (a lot of people did lol).

Although the drama version definitely watered down Yoo Jung.

Did you forget when he beatdown that crook in the alley? Was that not overkill? He could have easily physically subdued him and brought him to the police. But he beat him to the point where I felt uncomfortable as a viewer, even though I know it's just a drama. To fight with someone who's fighting back is one thing. But to hurt someone who isn't fighting back... and kick someone that's down and out... that's a completely different thing... someone who can no longer defend himself and is on the ground already bruised and bleeding. And he still kept beating him. I know he did it out of vengeance for Seol but it was too much.

He is calculative and manipulative, but he's also cold, superficially charming, two-faced, and lacks empathy. Those are all the star attributes of sociopathy lol

No I didn't. But then again I don't expect him to be level headed in that sort of situation. When his girlfriend got strangled and kicked down stairs with no remorse in front of him, I think it's obvious something will snap and he'll go overboard in the heat of the moment. Especially when that guy was laughing and talking shit still.

He's an eye for an eye person. So no matter how "defenseless" the burglar and assaulter was at that moment Jung overpowered him, there really wasn't a reason for him to show empathy towards that person. I think the fact that he didn't break him hand showed he knew when to stop.

Plus he told Seol also after he calmed down that he wouldn't go that far again.

To dearest OP.. @bluesclues

Arent title of this thread should be change? lol  :troll:

About Jung keeps on beating that thief, i dont mind, since that thief keeps on provoking him so yeah serve that jerk right. lol

I agree that Jung does has less empathy than other people. Then again, because Seol is the narrator here, then we are looking at the story from a female's point of view. As far as I know, guys, in general (not all of them), do have less empathy than girls. My good friends had told me that they often feel angry to their  boyfriends / husbands because those guys cracked jokes on them while they were pouring their hearts out :P . They went mad and wondered why they were being so insensitive. They acted as if the girls' problems were not that big.  My friend (a guy) once said,"Why are you so complicated?", when I told him about my problems which really stressed me out, and I just thought,"Huh? Do you think that I'm over-reacting?"

In dramas, the guys are usually described are someone romantic and devoted to the girls, especially the second lead guys. They are there when the girls need them the most, and they provide comfort and protection when the girls need one. In reality, yes, there are a lot of responsible guys. Then again, being responsible doesn't mean that they care about 'those little things' or being a perfect lover like what the dramas describe. Guys are guys, they are sometimes so insensitive and annoying . Haha, sorry, I don't mean to judge guys . I'm just saying this based on experience. Of course, there are a lot of sensitive and romantic guys out there

Anyway, regarding Jung, I believe that there are times when he is being manipulative and has no empathy towards others, and there are times when he is 'just being a guy'. That's why I like this drama, because the characterization is more complicated and realistic than others. I read a comment in Dramabeans (or was it here ? I forgot) that Jung's personality, which is 'cold' and have less empathy, is suitable to become a CEO. I kinda agree with that. A leader must be able to look from a bigger view. They don't really dwell on small details, so they have to be able to filter the information that they receive, and extract the most important thing from there. His personality of  having less empathy than others will help him to make a difficult decision, since he can quickly dismiss 'unimportant' things and move forward based on what he consider as highly important / critical.,  And, it's also logical, considering that Jung's personality was inherited from his dad, which is a CEO / company owner himself.

So, for me, I don't always be bothered by Jung's 'insensitivity' . Yes, he is sometimes being weird. Then again, sometimes when he ignores Seol, I think he is just being an insensitive guy.  :meow:

Interesting to hear other opinions~ personally I think calling him "insensitive" is quite unspecific because you can be insensitive to different degrees.

I really do think that Yoojung is a strong contender for sociopathy XD I'm not saying he is intended to be a sociopath by the writers, but his character itself is just indicative of it. Don't think that being a sociopath means you have to be a serial killer - many serial killers just happen to be sociopaths. A lot of successful CEOs of large organizations are sociopaths. It's just a matter of exemplifying the traits I described... manipulative, cold, two-faced (I mean by now it's a recurring theme that people ask him to "take off his mask" lol), calculated, is only superficially charming, constantly has ulterior motives, harbours dark secrets, lacks a basic sense of empathy for others, is vengeful, etc. How he's threatened and blackmailed everyone... Sangchul, that guy who wanted to take Seol to a motel (his name escapes me), Jooyeon, when he sent that stalker/Young Gon to Seol, Seol's TA and his boyfriend, etcetc... and of course, In ho and In ha. I'm probably forgetting more things lol

I do think that he truly likes Seol, though.

Agreed that there is a likely probability. Hence why I always say he's on the borderline of that but not completely there just yet. I don't know the details of the illness but I'd like to think based on the story, if he were to find more people like Seol who he genuinely cares about and who will be firm in reprimanding him of his wrongdoing we'd see retreat in his "sociopathic" tendencies and general apathetic and superficial demeanor towards, well, everyone else lol.

I can definitely see why you'd say that if you think the "crimes" others were caught doing didn't fit with the "punishment" Jung condemns them with. I was saying it in a more general sense based on him being calculative.

I'm kind of taking this off-topic from Yoojung, and I haven't read the webtoon, but I feel like another theme in this drama is mental illness.

In Ha - narcissism, Young Gon - stalker mentality (and probably some other personality disorder lol), Min Soo - identity crisis (lol)

not to mention that criminal who was admitted into the police station was revealed to have a mental disorder where he couldn't understand the repercussions of his actions

I feel like all this is alluding to Yoojung. Again, I don't know if he was meant to actually be crazy because I haven't read the webtoon XDDDD

I do agree with everything you're saying though! I think that once you're on his good side, then he'll do anything for you. But then again, In ho and In ha were once on his good side, but they didn't turn out so well >___<

I just love this drama! Even though it's slice of life, there's so much to think about, and I'm really liking all the twists so far. I don't usually watch dramas but this one is really good. Also, Seo Kangjun as In ho is totally charming @__@

  • 2 weeks later...

Wow. I just watched episode 11 and it was amazing. I love how all of the little subplots add to Seol's own character development and the development of her relationships with the other characters. Not only that but it's just so relatable~ love it!

am i the only one that feels more sorry for inho than yoojung?

like okay yoojung went through a lot and it must have been really tough for him to realize that everything about his life was a lie but

for him to get all those guys to beat up inho the way they did and put him in the hospital just because he overheard him talking about him..?

that's going a bit too far :x

Actually i don't think we haven't gotten the full story on the hand thing but even if that is the full story. What Jung did was wrong and a huge mistake... (I don't think he set up the attack. His plan was only for him to trap Inho being the spy to his father or to have him go to the bar and report back or be busted there or whatever. The beating was not planned by him)

His walking away was wrong to me. However none of it is unforgivable or unredeemable IMHO. It looked to me like Inho already came back ready to have some kind of closure or something where all of that is concerned. I need both of them to acknowledge what they did to the other and how they both broke each other's hearts (and mine) and confidence and trust and love friendship and family.

Also, Jung was already freezing In-ho out of his life by ignoring him and being deliberately friendly towards Piano Boy. That's more his MO. And Jung did not lay a single finger on In-ho directly or indirectly until the playground brawl.

Still Jung was being annoyingly cryptic. "Think whatever you like." What kind of self-justification is that? Explain yourself man... your ex-friend really wants to know. We want to know too.

It doesn't excuse his cold attitude towards In-ho who was writhing on the ground but I'd like to think we can separate one event from the other. I'm not trying to excuse Jung whatsover but he was in high school then. I just don't see Jung as a 3 step thinker. :imstupid:

Yep I totally agree with everything you said! Definitely an interesting perspective you have :)

However I feel like if Jung didn't plan the beating, then he would have been worried and shocked at Inho getting beat up, and run over there to stop them and/or help him to a hospital when he saw Inho bleeding and injured and on the ground. But instead he looked him in the eyes while he was down and out, knowing that he just got the daylight beat out of him and walked away... That was the moment when I kind of lost some respect for Jung. Maybe he was really mad, but even if you have an argument with your friend, when they're literally bleeding and broken, won't you feel at least some concern? Either he wanted him to get hurt or he truly didn't care about Inho getting hurt like that and had no remorse.

:( anyways I hope their friendship can be resolved because I really like them together.

YJ was mad at In-ho. It seem like he didn't not care after he heard what he said earlier. He might not have planned it. But just felt nothing after it happened.

he's so scary and borderline sociopathic omg

maybe im just feeling a little bit extra about this because i love inho lol

I used to think he was sociopath but now that I see how he is I do not think that so much. He just cannot speak his feelings so he is always misunderstanding people.

Yep I agree too! Just that moment when he walked away from Inho, who clearly needed emergency treatment, just really left an impression on me
