  1. 1. Who do you want Hong Seol to end up with?

  2. 2. Is Yoo Jung a misunderstood hero or truly apathetic towards others?

    • He's just misunderstood!/ His actions are justified.
    • He clearly lacks empathy and is borderline sociopathic./#Pray4Seol
    • I just love him <333

I'm so upset. I don't know what to feel. My friends who got me into this drama are abandoning me just as I finished everything so I have no one to turn to for my end-of-drama-emptiness. Lord jesus get ready for an essay. I'm finna analyze this shit to the fullest. Please note I haven't read the webtoon so I'm ranting purely based off what I saw.

Full Drama Feels/Character Analysis/Opinions/Annoyances

Seol:
I actually really appreciated and overall truly enjoyed her character. I usually hate lead characters, especially female lead characters because they're usually floundering fools, but what I appreciated about Seol that I feel sets her apart from many others is that she did actually start actively standing up for herself. While it didn't add to the "love triangle", between the two male leads that I'm sure many people were hoping for, Seol did an excellent job at remaining alert, standing up for herself, taking excellent observations of people around her, and keeping Inho at a safe distance to protect her relationship. At no point did she ever lead him on, use him, or make him out to be anything other than what he was and she even defended that to Yoojung, which is also excellent because she never abandoned her friend for her relationship either. Truly, I have no real issue with anything she did here. If I had to stretch for criticism I would say my only true annoyance is that she never made Yoojung truly answer for anything he ever did or squeeze reasoning out of him. I realize this could have been a veiled way of expressing her knowledge and acceptance of his "strangeness", which I interpreted as an undiagnosed mental disorder, but I don't know if I necessarily blame her for not forcing it out of him. I just wish someone would have.

Inho:
Inho is the motherfucking MVP and true to his position in the drama, spent nearly the entire series losing. I don't really even feel like the flashforward truly counts because that's when everything gets resolved, I just really hate how he spent the bulk of the active storyline constantly being tossed around from everyone around him. If anyone should have forced Yoojung to take accountability and actively realize what he was doing, it should have been Inho, but everytime they vaguely touched on it someone either walked away or kicked something or Inho was getting his ass kicked by someone. I just really wanted someone to paint it out plainly for him (Yoojung), and as he used to be Inho's best friend, I think it should have been him. I also don't appreciate how people are complaining about Inho gaining so much focus when again, much of that focus was spent with him getting fucked over by life nonstop. I saw this not having watched the webtoon, but I still feel the majority of the attention was definitely on Yoojung. Truly, though, I enjoyed his character. He's a beautiful man, had some very convincing bursts of anger, and it was honestly painful watching him chase after his tornado of a sister. I am happy that he did eventually get into that music school though.

Inha:
Truly, Inha's case infuriates. I feel that if she was there to be humorous, then she should have remained as such. If they wanted to give her a story, then they should have truly given her a story. I loved her melodramatic and manipulative scenes for the majority of the series. She was lighthearted, shallow, and fully aware of it. What frustrated me though is that she was given the slightest glimpses of depth and had the most potential for as much (after Yoojung) and they skated right over it to devolve her into a screaming psychopath. I really feel like once it was revealed that Inho and Inha were truly brought in to watch over Yoojung, it would have been excellent to see just how similar and manipulative and cunning they both were, truly build off of that, while also giving her some depth as to how and why she became so materialistic. That glimpse into her history with art could have really gone somewhere, and her brother's disregard for it and how everyone prioritized his piano playing could have been a pivotal point as to why she felt she was only good for her looks. Then when she had her breakdown, especially when she showed her best display of emotion when the father cut her off, THAT is when she should have really started her downward spiral and threw everything back at Yoojung when she came at him in his apartment. I loved this character. I just wish she got more time before they tossed her in a loony bin.

Yoojung:
I LOVE Yoojung. I love everything about his character. I loved how manipulative he is, I love how unaware of it he is, and I love how he went from being that manipulative to showing childlike wonder at displays of affection. I loved this. As far as Yoojung as a character, I loved everything that I saw.

Inho/Inha/Yoojung as a dynamic:
So much momentum was lost with this. I think the concept was truly fascinating, but to touch on it was a waste. They should have expanded upon this. I want to see how they met, their first impressions, I want to see how and when Yoojung and Inha realized they were truly this similar, I want to see how Yoojung realized that Inho brought out this lightntess and positivity in him (and later how Seol did the same thing), and I want to see how the father influenced the siblings to watch over Yoojung when he realized his son was affected. Then, I want to see more than that two seconds of "back-stabbing" from Inho to warrant how Yoojung held such contempt for him for so many years. I also want to see again, more of what Inho and Inha have gone through. This dynamic just had so much potential, so much backstory, but I think we were thrust into what it was, and then thrust into a resolution that truly didn't resolve anything. Dad was also held accountable for absolutely nothing despite starting all of this.

On the topic of the screentime controversy:
I say this not having seen the original webtoon, but I do not believe fans of Yoojung have any reason to complain. Yooung by far received not only the most good grace of anyone in the show despite doing the most cruel acts of anyone, but any extra screentime Inho received was literally spent getting his ass kicked by random people and by life itself. Yoojung was the only one who got away with everything he did and answered for absolutely nothing and was able to skate around any real responsibility.

Side characters/honorable mentions:
All side characters played their part well. Sangchul was convincingly greedy and irritating, Dayoung the pretty and uptight bitch, and so on. A special shoutout to Young Gon for some impressive and convincing displays of anger as well, as well as special mentions to Bora and Euntaek for being the reliable best friends. Everyone else played their role well. I've no true issue with any side character except Minsoo just because her wig was horrid and she had an annoying face, but I really enjoyed her meltdown too.

Overall:
I largely enjoyed everything that I saw here. The school scenes were truly appropriate and effective, as well as the different types of mentalities we were able to see throughout. I truly believe that there was no miscast role in this drama, everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do as expected and I reacted the way I was supposed to. Narratives delivered by Yoojung and Inho made me especially emotional, and the bursts of anger by people like Young Gon were almost palpable. As previously mentioned, I do have some criticism. I understand that for the sake of time, not everyone's story can be fleshed out with oustanding detail, but I really do maintain that something fantastic could have come from Inha's character, ESPECIALLY if it meant building up a better breakdown in regards to Yoojung. I truly believe she should have been realized as the observant, cunning, intelligent character that she was before she lost everything, and that confrontation in his apartment should have been the time to expose that as well as finally calling Yoojung plainly. Everyone else just called the boy strange, vaguely hinted at what he's done, but no one ever threw it in his face. I believe that the lack of backstory for Inha, not only in her psychosis but in her meltdown, her talent for art, and what she thinks of herself and how she actually does relate to Yoojung, was truly a lost opportunity before they had her committed. Also, as previously stated, Yoojung was truly held accountable for absolutely nothing and spent the entire series doing exactly what he wanted to despite being the most cruel character. Everyone is upset about the ending, and it definitely wasn't that satisfying, but truly I can't recall a drama that ended superbly so I won't touch on that.

Ultimately, and I understand that the drama had its limits, I loved what I watched. I just wish it was better expounded on. There was so much potential for greatness that was skated over and then abandoned.

Overall, I feel like a hollow shell. Inho's gorgeous, justice4Inha, I want an Euntaek, and Yoojung is a fantastic psycho. I need to go hold myself. Bye now.

P.S.

Seol didn't even attend homeboy's competition. Maybe she is a bitch.

xoxo
