Is Namie Amuro On The Verge of A Decline?

_genic is the first album since STYLE to not reach 200K in the first week, that includes her best albums. Her second week numbers aren't looking so well either (_genic has yet to hit 20K). Do you think she verge of a decline or not? We will see next year.

Declining album sales + album without any singles + a music industry where all female solo artists are passé = Decline for Namie Amuro

She's still top dog though

Why do this, though... did she really feel like kneecapping herself just to see how well it would go?

Or were there singles but none of them were particularly successful?

Most artists who debuted during Namie's time aren't popular anymore. The fact that she can get 160K debut sales on an album at this point in her career is really impressive, especially since _genic had no singles.

Yes, she has peaked again.

Didn't her album top the Oricon charts? Albums in general in the music scene are seeing declines with people going digital/illegally downloading.

Nobody is buying albums digitally.

Not all female soloists. Just a certain type.

at this point in the game

albums are just excuses to tour, as long as its number one...it don't really matter

Ehh, #1 doesn't really mean much. You can get #1 with 20k some week at with 500k other weeks.

ayaka and miwa's latest albums haven't done all that great (65k and 70k respectively iirc) and these are the types of female soloists 1H has been praising. Shiina's album did decent but she just missed the "100k club." As of now the only solo females that can shift 100k with a studio album (excluding veterans like Yumi and Mariya) are Namie, Kana, and Superfly. The list was a lot bigger just a year or two ago.

To answer the topic question, yes.

_genic didn't flop, but it suffered a huge drop in sales. Only two years ago FEEL (which had that last minute hit that was "Contrail" which saved the album campaign) sold almost 400k. _genic will barely pass the 200k mark.
It's almost a 50% drop which doesn't bode well for the future.

If she wants a more successful album next time she'll go for something close to the Uncontrolled route, otherwise she'll keep doing whatever she wants.

I don't know if she's in a real decline yet. It's definitely possible, but the reaction to her is still fairly positive from what I can see. She has definitely peaked commercially though. We'll see what she does with the next album and then I think the picture will be clearer.

Ehh idk. Like its been said the album suffers from not having singles + the general decline of sales. The sales are still good compared to the rest of the market. I hope the album manages to hvbe a hit or two because some songs definitely have the potential, itll depend on the promotion. Who knows.

LMAO, who cares? It's Namie Amuro, she's a legend. Her impressive sales were just a cherry on top but, even if she declines, she'll still be amongst the top acts in the country.

I pretty much agree with this. It's difficult to tell given what kind of album _genic is, but people seem to still be infatuated with her (for lack of a better word  ). Her next album could sell between 200k-400k if it has the right promotion and a few strong singles, or it could be around the same as _genic. Who knows? It's just too soon to tell. But if/when she does decline, I think she'll remain well-liked, respected, and admired.

What promo? And 1 song charted in the top 10 digitally for 1 day.

Here I was thinking the best selling female solo would be Namie still especially with her 160k debut compared to Kana's 100k debut. Kana had serious longevity due to Darling which pushed 250k. I don't see Namie selling at least 250k. Thought it would have just been the market for the low sales but I agree that having no hit single would be an early death.
