Do people around you look down on you if you use Tinder/Grindr?

As a gay man if you look down on me for using these apps I will laugh in your face. It is extremely difficult and potentially dangerous for LGBT+ to just meet and make moves on people in real life. We are constantly on edge over being bashed and often are afraid to make assumptions about someones sexuality (even though the automatic assumption is that someone is straight). So if people looked down on me for using these apps after being made aware of why they have become popular methods of meeting people then they can dismiss themselves from my life

hmm I agree in principle (although as I'm a lady it used to be more okc to find other ladies) but damned if all the people posting nothing but dick pics on that app make gay men seem like the sexual deviants society has claimed them to be :/ I'm sure there are some people who use the app for conversation and to find real relationships but it sure doesn't have that reputation

my friends always tease me about it like ''hey how many matches did you get on tinder today ''if you're prom doesn't show up hit one of your girls on tinder'' and that kinda stuff, funny thing is after they saw me have success in it they got it too lol the irony

Both tinder and grindr prevent you from making nude pictures your profile pic, meaning you would have to direct message someone nude photos, which isn't exclusive to grindr/tinder, people do the same thing on any form of electronic communication (texts, Facebook, crude messages on okc. also the suggestion that dick pic= sexual deviant sounds like indirect homophobia. if its consensual who cares if someone sends another person nude photos, thats their business. The problem shouldn't be the photos but the lack of consent in sharing/ sending them in the first place. this is getting slightly off topic and i apologize for that

I used Tinder for a while a couple of months ago and never have I been met with a negative attitude about it. If anything I got more people to try it. Sure, the whole app concept won't work for everyone, but I don't see why anyone would look down on it?

They're some crazies on there, sure, but I've met crazies in bars, workplaces and school as well. I actually quite like the fact that you're able to talk to people for a longer time without having to meet them face to face... You get to know a person better that way and have more time figuring out what they're like. When you meet someone in a bar you hang out with them for just one evening... And then you already have to decide whether you want to keep hanging out with them or not.

Personally I feel less pressured by apps, so it works for me.

  • 2 months later...

I judged the heck out of one person I knew that used it, mainly because he was using it as a pure hook up thing and the things he was saying about each person as he swiped were pretty disgusting. But in general I wouldn't look down on people that would use it like an actual dating site, it may not be my thing but online dating is pretty common now, I guess it was only a matter of time that they transferred that feature to phones.
