SM's (mis)treatment of their girl groups

SNSD used to be treated well for quite some time and we Sones were spoiled... now it's a whole different story. No (proper) album repackage since RDR, promotions last for 3-4 weeks, no Korean concert in two years despite Korean fans literally begging for it. Subpar title tracks, disappointing promo cycles, unprofessional handling of promotions (remember the Mr.Mr. mess), cutting a vital member from the group with no logical explanation whatsover. I'm just gonna say how in the last 4 years SNSD promoted in their home country for about 3 months when all is counted. Three months! Not to mention how their Japanese promos are being handled poorly as of late.

I'm sure Red Velvet fans, and well particularly f(x) fans have much to add about their bias groups.

I'm just gonna mention the still on-going issue about f(x) not having a fandom name after 6 long years, no solo concert etc.

Also Red Velvet's debut was handled poorly when you compare it to EXO's debut for example. SM got lucky with Ice Cream Cake, but from what I know they have yet to give them a variety show, despite their fans asking for it.

Do you think SM's female groups are not treated and promoted well, or not? If yes, what do you think is the reason behind it?

I think it's the natural cycle for every SM group tbh. Once they cemented their status, SM stops caring and moves their focus into another group who's going to become their priority.

But isn't that the norm in every kpop company

Boys>>>>Girls

Hmm well it kinda is, though there are some exceptions, like Kara's and T-ara's companies where they're the only successful groups, for example.

Your sig is super nice!  :rlytearpls:

SNSD were royalty in SM b4 exo happened though

That's indeed true.

My dislike for EXO comes from that tbh, I won't lie.

snsd are probably their most well-managed group tho along with shinee (except for the last 1-2 years)

I thought about those and SISTAR but CCM and DSP didn't even try with their boy groups

Thank you  :chu:

SM will do it if it makes them more money... giving f(x) a fandom name won't. What puzzles me is the lack of a concert but it's either because the members don't want it or SM doesn't think the concert will be big enough to be worth the planning.

On the bright side f(x) and SNSD get lots of full albums.

From what I know, f(x) members have said a dozen of times how they want their own concert.

red velvet fans literally have nothing to complain about since icc happened. and snsd were treated like royalty for like 3-4 years, y'all just cannot handle the fact that they're not seen as sm's main priority anymore because you were so used to it

f(x) stans have legitimate reasons to complain though, especially since 2012

at least suju always when they comeback gets a full album and also repackages

-runs n hides-

Yeah tbh, we never get repackages, they just give us 3 week promos in a time span of a year and a half. Mess tbh.

well suju are a boy group which proves op's point

but unlike suju,it would be tough for snsd to still get massive physical sales and keep their fandom intact unless they keep releasing hit songs

that's the sad truth about girl groups in general

But isn't the music quality the most important thing ? And you have to admit that the past two years, SM really improved this for all its groups without exception. (Ok, maybe Mr Mr, but I have a very good feeling for the next album). Really, maybe they do shit in terms of management, but they really try to be more credible with their music, and that's really important  :)

Well you can debate it, it's more true for T-ara than Kara though. And ImInCloud13 also brought up Sistar and Starship, Sistar is definitely treated well.
