WTF happened to BENI?

This thread is inspired by me doing Oricon Flashback a few minutes ago. Five years ago this week, she got her only #1 on Oricon, for the album Lovebox. She was hyped as a girl on the rise, like all girls that were singing cellphone ballads at the time (Miliyah and Kana included). She had a few digital hits, but she didn't get that big. Then she started doing cover albums, and they ended up being her biggest successes ever. But the sales of those declined after a while, along with those of her regular releases. All she's released in the past year was a best album and a Christmas digital single. There was supposedly a mini album to be released this month but that's obviously not happening now. So what is the deal? Why is she not a thing? She has good voice, she's one of the best looking girls in the industry, and she's English fluent (she sounds a bit like a hoodrat though).

Is it because she was supposedly rude to the people at the anime convention she performed at in LA a few years ago?

Why the hell would BENI perform at an anime convention? I was lost when it was announced and I'm still lost...

Is it because the best songs on her albums are often the intros?

I've covered all of these.

Man I loved her. I have so many of her songs. I still like her, but Red was meh, and it's been a while since she put music out.

I don't think the anime thing has anything to do with it.

Intros...maybe.

I wonder too why she's not super famous now. She's pretty, but maybe her look doesn't work? Maybe it's her music. I wish I knew.

I find a bit strange that she hasn't released absolutely nothing in almost a year. Did she get dropped or what?
The same question could be asked about MiChi.

Ughh, MiChi is taking a break from music and going to art school in New York. I'm sure she was dropped. BENI, I don't think she was.

She deserved so much more than this. I wish her all the best anyway.

Beni performing at Anime Expo isn't too far fetch since she did the 3rd ending theme song for Eyeshield 21 which was back in '05. She was also the host for NHK's Tokyo Kawaii TV which focused on Japanese fashion. I don't think her being rude to ppl at a convention in America could possibly have such a negative impact on her career in Japan.

Now if she was rude to people in Japan, now that I can understand. Especially if it's like staff and stuff. And I think for some acts, we just won't know why they aren't popular/doing work unless we're actually in the industry.

Did she even sing that song there though?
