Depends on the song honestly, I'd say. JYP is doing right with Twice so far. They have the hype, he just needs t capitalise on it, which shouldn't be hard with a good song. I see them catching up to Red Velvet soon enough.

I'm watching Sixteen and I'm not fully feel them as much as I liked Red Velvet predebut maybe because Mnet editing. We need to wait for final line-up and ofc for their debut track.

I think there is potential for Jyp to have a strong debut with Twice. Similar attention as what missA had at their debut. And possible similar success as what WG had in their rookie year (but this one will be difficult because WG was just SUPER popular after Tell Me and it's something difficult to achieve, but nothing is impossible).

But it depends on many things, and the first one (most important) is the line-up of the group, which is not confirmed yet for now. Yes the girls are bringing attention, but only half of them actually have attention/fans already. If Jyp doesn't mess up his choices and select the girls who have fans, then the "hype" around the group will continue, because the girls who are popular already now with the fans will surely become even more popular as time goes. So Jyp should first listen to what fans want right now and select the popular girls for the final line-up.

 

After that the other important thing is the songs. Personally I think Jyp gives better songs to his girl groups than male groups. Take as example Got7 where the boys have likeable personnalities and popularity, but their songs don't appeal to enough people. Meanwhile with girl groups it works better (even though I'm not a fan of the latest missA songs, but I loved BGGG, Breathe, GBBB, and Touch, and as for WG I love most of their songs!). So if Jyp makes efforts and bring a hit song like he did with WG and missA, then it will work great. Something like BGGG would be perfect because if Jyp select the popular girls, we'll have great visuals with good dancing and normal vocals, which means BGGG is the perfect kind of songs for that (a fresh song, focused on dancing, they'd have the visuals too, and the song can sound great with any voice). A song like Irony (WG) would be good too, it had a mature touch and catchy, a nice dance, and also works with any voice. Then songs like Tell Me/Breathe (colorful, catchy, fun) can be released later and they'll increase the popularity of Twice even more.

 

If Jyp does what needs to be done then everything will go perfectly. And he also needs to promote them to the max. Like he does with Got7. or WG in 2007-2008 (although I believe the reason WG were everywhere back then is because of their huge popularity so they received many offers, rather than Jype having to find work for them).

 

I think this might be one of the reason why Jyp started this show in the first place? Like, he doesn't want his next group to have issues with members popularity so he did a show to see what the public wants? Let's see. If he ends up debuting the ones that the public loves, then it means he did the show for that reason. And then the group will become popular for sure, there's no doubt.

Honestly I think they'll be pretty big depending on the lineup and how they promote/are managed.

 

JYP has never failed with a girl group debut so that's a good sign for Twice there.
