EXO's 'Love Me Right' Song review

Although I'm a Shawol and had my fair ammount of disagreements with EXO-Ls, I always really liked the boys, they are talented kids. Following their songs I really like their singles, even 'Wolf' that I think it's a good song to have some fun while listening to it. When I heard this new EXO song I was kind of disappointed with SM tbh, this song seems like a SHINee song that didn't fit 'Odd' so they gave it o EXO so it wouldn't be wasted, not that EXO did it badly, vocally EXO was amazing but I missed that funky feeling the song needed, I think EXO fits the RnB genre the best I think a song like 'Growl' was made for them no else could pull that off. This new song not so much. I had a déjà-vu of the way I felt when they performed 'Why So Serious?' for the first time "I miss the funky and the energy a song like this needs" not that EXO is lazy not at all but when I saw the first LMR stage I was really underwhelmed, CMB was not as good as 'Growl' but was an amazing comeback song and they performed amazingly during the promotions, not feeling the same with this song. Another thing that bothers me it's SM pull a 'Lucifer-Hello kind of thing with this repackage where I don't see the 2 songs fitting each other. Not hating just giving my honest opinion, although it's a good song and EXO did really well vocally (Xiumin actually sings more lines and Sehun was given the chance to say sing more than E.X.O) I just feel like the song doesn't fit them, I hope people don't see this like hating it's just an opinion ^^

At the beginning, I thought that sometimes it sounded like a SHINee song. But actually, after few more listens, I think it really fits EXO.

My reasons: this is really "Uptown funkish", which is just perfect for members like D.O for instance, who is known for loving this kind of music and whose voice just comes out very well with this style. Besides, Kai's Michael Jackson's style really shines there.

Finally, Chanyeol's rap could not be replaced by Minho's or Key's rap in this song imo. I also think that EXO's voices give a soft side to the song, almost melancholic, even if it's a funky tune, which is very interesting. Knowing SHINee, they would have done something very energetic, which is cool, but not as complex as what EXO manages to do.

But I totally respect your opinion, and it was interesting to read about it.

lmao what kind of review is this? ur practically saying that this song is a shinee reject

and tbh it's actually good for them to be experimenting with different genres instead of staying with the same RnB concept like Growl cos if they do that then a lot of people are gonna get bored.

I did think D.O's voice fit well with the song, but I missed Chen's voice for instance. I personally prefer to hear them in a more RnB genre. For Chanyeol's rap I would actually put Key and Minho together lik 'Odd Eye' and 'Trigger' because they balance each other ^^ I don't think SHINee and EXO kind of performance is alike since I feel like EXO is more threatical and SHINee is more about energy.

I understand where you came from and thank you for sharing your opinion with me and don't take me wrong ^^

I thought I was the only one who thought it sounded like a SHINee song omg

I guess it's good they're changing their style a bit though, wouldn't want them to always sound the same

What the hell, why the negs

The only things I disagreed with - that the song is a SHINee-reject, and that Wolf is good.

Maybe I expressed myself badly what I meant was that it was a song that could fit on 'Odd' ^^

It's not like 'Wolf' isn't good, personally I like it but it's not their best and it's not most people's cup of tea.

I like they were experimenting like CMB but I really didn't feel like it worked for them :)

Shinee changes their sound too often for them to have a sound that is specific to them. For example, SHINee already did RnB so you could technically say that Exo sounds like them if they did do an RnB sound. Maybe you're thinking of their Dream Girl/WSS era sound? I would say LMR kind of sounds like those songs. But I wouldn't say that that style is specific to SHINee.

I agree, people are often quick to judge about this song being too funky for EXO but this song pretty much showed how complex they are as a group. How they can give that EXO effect in this song that no groups did.

Not the song review I expected. It's basically "This is how Shinee did it, so that's the way it should be done."

That was not what I meant, I meant that I missed the funky I compared to SHINee because it was kpop but if you want it's like when Justin Timberlake did 'Love never felt so good' for MJ and I felt the difference alot. I wasn't bashing EXO, I just feel like SM rushed it a little bit and doesn't come off as good as it could.

Maybe because I'm use to SHINee experimenting so much when I see something this funky it reminds me of them, it not EXO did it wrong it just doesn't feel like them

I just said that this is not the kind of song review I was expecting to read, yknow like an objective review of the song itself. I didn't think you're bashing EXO.

Oh seriously guys, why are you negging her/him? It's an honest opinion and not offensive at all.  :wth:

I mean, not all opinions need to be positive and being sort of negative =/= bashing.

Anyway, I agree with you, but only partially. I've actually seen a lot of people who had the feeling this song was a SHINee rejected song, so it's not like you were the only one who had this impression, but if for any reason I think it's because, among SM acts, SHINee is the one who has the closest style to LMR's "vibe". However, I think LMR's chorus is quite different from usual SHINee's songs, and idk how to explain it technically but SHINee's songs are usually more... "busy" in feeling, like there are a lo of things going on (not in a bad way, I just mean the arrangements are usually different). So even tho this style sort of resembles SHINee's, if I actually try to imagine them singing this song, it just doesn't fit for me...

That said tho, even tho I love LMR, I feel this song lacks a bit of charater. It's not to the point I'd say it's generic because their vocals give it some personality, but it drifts away from EXO's usual style and, although that isn't a problem by itself (because ofc they can always experiment), the problem is they didn't quite appropriate this style for themselves. That's why people feel like this songs belongs to someone else...

Not that this problem derives from the boys tho, but most likely from the music producers. I guess they were trying something different and it worked so-so. Although I'm not 100% happy with it, tho, I'm happy they haven't fallen into a comfort zone of releasing the same song over and over again like some successful groups end up doing. I'd rather they experiment a bit and try something different, even if they fail, than falling into that pattern tbh.
