The Official Dance Thread

A Boy Like Troy

Recommended Posts

Oh how I've neglected this thread recently.. so sorry everyone!!  :derp:

Red Velvet as a group are pretty good. Wendy is sorta lagging behind the other three tho, but yeah I'd say that she's probably average whilst the others are a lot better, Joy is around the level of Miss A's Suzy and the other two are probs around Yuri's level? Idk, it sort of hard to judge them since it's still early days but I think Seulgi and Irene show a lot of promise, particularly Seulgi because her musicality is great.

She definitely had the best musicality in those performances but in all honesty their execution as a whole was terribly inconsistent in both performances. It's like they were purposely being lazy in some parts and some of the transitions were just really poor. All of them seem unspectacular but maybe it's just those performances.

Brilliant execution, brilliant musicality. I have high hopes for this girl. :ahmagah:

Haha, I wouldn't go that far since there are a handful of groups that are a lot better than them but yeah they are pretty good.

Thank you Qriii

i was watching MADTOWN's YOLO dance practice bc i love the song omg.

My opinion is that it goes

Daewon (in blue) = Jota (grey muscle tee) > H.O. (black muscle tee) > MOOS (red shoes) = Lee Geon (black stussy top at 1:21)> Heo Jun (green+black top)> Buffy (black + white graphic t-shirt with jacket, second rapper)

This was based on the dance video alone, not live performances or the music video

  • Daewon is the main dancer and choreographer of the group.  He hits the moves pretty hard, but sometimes it looks like it takes away his stamina in certain moves.  He looks really excited LOL which is appropriate for the mood of this song.
  • Jota, a former backup dancer for Lee Hyori, is my favourite.  He's smooth and a lot more fluid compared to Daewon, and he adds his own little actions to the moves.
  • H.O. is next because I find that he's quite clean in his movements and he doesn't have a single sloppy move.  He's got good coordination and understands the beat.
  • MOOS and Lee Geon are around the same level.  Both are enthusiastic enough.  Lee Geon is more energetic but MOOS looks a lot more flexible(?)
  • Heo Jun is average- and kind of boring, imo.  He just does the moves, like a routine.  It's not much of performing and there's nothing special to point out.
  • The gap between Buffy and Heojun is pretty big.  Buffy is lazy and sloppy, and he looks kind of bored.  Dancing (or maybe this routine) isn't his forte.

What do you guys think? Feel free to post your opinions (or not; you're free to do that too)

lol this was fun to do.  watch me get a completely different ranking of MADTOWN from someone else

some xiumin dance appreciation lord jesus he can MOVE i hope he gets a spot as lead dancer soon

Hey, I'm new to the thread btw but dance is like 1/2 the reason I got into kpop so when I saw this thread I freaked out a little.

it was difficult to take my eyes off of Daewon (the blue makes him stand out too) because of his energy, so my ranking might be off...

  • Daewon is imo the best, his energy alone makes him stand out above the rest, but his execution of the dance was really crisp
  • Jota and H.O were pretty close to me, I thought that Jota had the moves down and there was definitely that fluidity but I think that H.O had more energy which made him look better
  • I'm putting Lee Goon here because I thought his movements were a bit fuller than MOOS but just barely
  • MOOS is here. side note: MOOS, please tell me thats an acronym or something?
  • Hee Jun still goes here because he just does the movements but he's not bad though
  • Buffy looked like he had other things to do and other places to be, idk if it was just because it was a practice or what

I still can't believe that this song is called yolo

Xiumin is so underrated, he's such a good performer but he's rarely noticed

Hey there fellow Suga fan  :ohla:  :ohbi: Thanks for the input! Your opinion is pretty close to mine (am I supposed to be surprised????? ofc not i know my opinions are always rite!!!).  Recently on ASC (like yesterday) MOOS explained that his name came from using a lot of hair mousse lmao.

About Buffy, I've noticed he looks like that a majority of the time when he performs on stage... oh well, every group tends to have that member.

Am I the only one who really dislikes modern dance like this

It looks so sloppy and weird.  I love ballet, hip hop, jazz... just not any of this weird running around shit

not just you me neither, i really like sharp, fast and smooth choreographies

Never been a fan of contemporary dance, it's incredibly wanky and sloppy looking. I prefer more structured and synchronized choreography, it looks way cooler haha

Thanks guys you put it into words for me.  Ballet is graceful but has this structure to it whereas modern is kinda messy and reminds me of tribal dances or something

Modern dance was the style I was really uncomfortable with when I tried to study it. I've seen some really great modern dance pieces though. I think it depends on the choreographer and the dancers to pull it off or else it's a mess

Yein [pigtails] - JIN [beige overthrow]

Jiae [all black] - Kei [white shirt]

Baby Soul [green] - Mijoo [red/white stripes]

Sujeong [black/white/stripes]

Is it possible to do a somewhat thorough but simple analysis of each member's dancing? It's fine if you take some time with it since it's seven. And in the end, where would you guys rank them in order?

A lot of the early free dancers (modern dancers) took inspiration from tribal dances. It was kind of a huge F*ck U to the rigid structure in ballet. I Personally like it, if it's done right. But it's a hard style to master. If you want Something in between try to find some neoclassical pieces ;) I Love Petite mort by jiiri kylian  (it looks a lot cleaner)  :chu:

I'm really sorry, I will do an analysis of that video really soon! It's just with newly debuted groups, their videos are a lot harder since I have not familiarised myself with them yet. I promise that I will get it done by next week!

How JJang is LaKween at dancing

tumblr_moy06jtmNY1sv1kodo1_250.gif

Can someone do current exo ranking and add 1-2 sentences about their strengths and weaknesses?

I won't talk about all the members since most of them haven't made a significant change recently. I'll just talk about some notable improvement/regression.

D.O - musicality-wise, he has improved a lot, however his lack of consistency in execution is still a problem. In performances, it often looks like he is not always dancing to the fullest because he is trying to conserve his energy since he also has to sing. But during lip-synced performances he actually does exceptionally well since he is able to fully showcase his dancing (I guess that's one lip-syncing perk).

Sehun - also nice musicality, but execution is getting poorer. Frustratingly poor. His dancing is incredibly lazy a lot of the time which I really don't like because he's shown his capabilities pre-debut and I don't want his skill going to waste. This also partly relates to his lack of consistency as he has been unable to show that he is able to consecutively put on nice performances; he'll do one solid performance, and then act lazy for the next.

Lay - always been a great dancer, bad habit such as constantly looking at the floor persist but are a lot less common now. He is also notably a lot more fluid these days which is nice to see.

Kai - essentially improved on every front, he has really developed his style and been able to showcase improvement in musicality, precision, execution and fluidity. Very nice to see him improving his competence as a dancer.

Ranking-wise I'd say it's not very different from before:

Kai > Lay > Xiumin > Tao > Baekhyun > Suho > D.O/Sehun > Chen > Chanyeol

How is Mint?

the one in all black in both group vids is Mint

Nice musicality, decent enough execution although her fluidity could do with a bit of work and she could work on her transitions slightly (I am being slightly pedantic). Nothing spectacular here, but I'd like to see her try out more challenging choreography.

Yes feel free to!

I'm prepared for Sehun stans to kill me lol

I'm kinda a Sehun stan too, though. Should I credit your words to myself, then ? :hurr:  Jk.

I was suprised with his ranking, but I have to agree, that he is pretty inconsistent and lazy at times. He has potential, I hope boy doesn't waste it.

I always see you around the forums and am always wondering - who's that girl in your sig ? ( I actually thought it was Lindsay Lohan at first, lol)

Tbh, I see a lot of parallels with Sehun and Jessica from SNSD, except Jessica's regression is slightly more justified since she was a main vocalist and had a reason to stop focusing on her dancing.

And the girl in my sig is Zara Larsson. It's from her Bad Boys music video.
