Kim Jong Kook Reveals the Thoughtful Reason Why He Didn’t Wear a Mask in Hong Kong Despite MERS Scare

Singer Kim Jong Kook visited Hong Kong without a mask, and was asked about it by local media.

Kim Jong Kook touched down in Hong Kong on June 6 for the “2015 Hong Kong Youth Music Festival†and greeted the local fans. On June 7, a Chinese media outlet reported that he wasn’t wearing a mask despite the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) scare.

 

Later, he was asked about why he did not wear a mask during an interview. He replied, “A lot of people came out to see me, and (if I wear a mask) they won’t be able to properly see my face, so I didn’t wear it.†When asked more about the situation of MERS in Korea, he added, “I heard that if you have good immune function, you can fight it off. Everyone is being careful.â€

 

Meanwhile, Kim Jong Kook and girl group T-ara participated in “2015 Hong Kong Youth Music Festival†on June 6. It was relayed that he put on a beautiful stage, singing “Today More Than Yesterday,†“Loveable,†and “One Man.â€

guys you have to be in close contact with a sick person to get it, and people who are sick with MERS aren't going to be going to a meet-and-greet or a concert.

 

and by close contact, i don't mean standing right next to them, i mean being around that person to the extent that you're regularly exposed to their bodily fluids.

I don't know if you were aware of this.  I think last week (or maybe 10+ days ago) there was a guy who had MERS and took a flight from SK to HK with 200+ passengers on board and then took a train/bus to China.   His father is diagnosed with MERS.  I think he got it from taking care of his father.  He was showing symptoms before he boarded on the plan.  According to him, he went to clinic and no one at the clinic told him that he had MERS.  HK and China found out about him days later when the clinic notified WHO.  HK and China had to put so many people in quarantine because of him. HK and China don't take MERS as lightly as SK after what they been through with SARS.  

 

Not mention that there were 2 Korean girls who were on the same flight with this refused to quarantine themselves. Maybe they didn't understand who was going on due to language barrier.  It took the HK gov't (with the help of the SK embassy) days to track them down to forced them into quarantine. Luckily no one in quarantine is showing symptoms so far. 

 

I just wanted to give you guys some background why HK press is kind of pissed with KJK for not wearing a mask.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same guy.  According to some of the HK newspapers i read, they said they guy told reporters that he had no idea that he had MERS.  He went to the clinic for treatments when he was sick but no one told him that he had MERS.  He wouldn't take the business trip to China if he knew he had MERS. I think he was tested positive for MERS after the Chinese officers tracked him down in China.  Maybe he was under observation in SK for possible MERS.  IDK. Like i said from my previous post, this happened a while ago and I didn't keep track of this on a daily basis. 

 

It would only make things worst if they knew he had MERS.  It just shows that SK wasn't take this seriously enough so somehow he was able to broke his quarantine and boarded on a plane with so many people on board.

they didn't know he had MERS. the patient had a fever at the time and the doctor advised him to abstain from his flight to china. he was under voluntary quarantine.

 

the guy knew his father was infected with MERS but he didn't inform the hospital during his initial examination, which prevented them from identifying the infection early on.

 

the problem is that the doctor didn't report the suspected case until a couple days later, after the man had already left for china. i wouldn't regard this as a fault with SK's health department, but rather the fault of a man who defied doctor's orders, and a doctor who was irresponsible about contacting WHO.

no, you have to be infected to be a transmit the virus. there's no evidence that healthy people are carriers.
