So the budget is 69 million yuan?

Yep which is like 10 mill in USD money (10491504.51 to be exact) and they only made 5.9 mill in China and Korea's box office so they lost 4.1 mill.

Maybe it was hot in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Philippines where it was also released it but I haven't seen any reports.

SM Producers tells which artists involve in their own music, their fave groups to work with, which song was their fave to produce , future plans, etc.

These are accounts from people who attended Kcon NY "SM Producers panel" with DR and Ryan S. Jihun (who produced Lucifer, Neverland, Campfire, Love Me Right, etc)

-Someone asked about artist involvement. Both of them agreed that although most groups have no say in what they have to perform, but some of the artists (they mentioned Jonghyun and Taemin really want to be involved in a lot of aspects. )

-Ryan seemed to really appreciate Taemin's sense of artistry, he brought it up multiple times- mentioned that Taemin will fix little things in the melody himself, improvise his runs and adlibs, etc. Taemin was involved in every single one of his tracks from his last album.

-Eric Nam also likes to be very involved in the music he does.

-Favorite group to work with was.....red velvet! he mentioned he really wanted campfire to be a title song!! he was really depressed that it was a bside lol.

They were worried about Dumb Dumb because it was structured differently from other songs.

-Ryan also mentioned hes very passionate and involved in IOI. Also about IOI, he's working with the subunit and Yoojung and Nayoung are writing their rap parts.

-"I" for taeyeon was originally an snsd song. (this really surprised me lol)

-Ryan said that he tells the writers to try and make sure that the English is grammatically correct now that Kpop is international and it gets embarrassing lol

-Both of their favorite songs to have produced was Love Me Right. They mentioned the song took less than a week to write, but the production ended up being 3+ weeks because they bought in a live band to do the guitars, bass, etc. I thought this was really interesting because LMR really stood head and shoulders above most of exo's discog. It had a really warm and genuine sound which i guess i can attribute to the live instruments.DR already made the instrumental for LMR but it was Ryan's idea to make it using real instruments. DR originally didn't want to (prob because of the extra work) but Ryan won.

I think I remember them mentioning that one song from EXO was meant to be for Taemin. I think it was "They never Know" but I'm really not sure.

-They said they'd like to work with BTS

Both of them mentioned they preferred Minho's and Kai's singing over their their rapping

-A lot of people asked about line distribution. Ryan talked on this a bit- he said with a group like IOI he would start out by thinking of a song structure that could easily fit >11 people. For other songs, he also mentioned that before he actually starts giving out the lines he'll have a loose structure for members to easily fit into; if somebody gets a lot of lines (ex. Kevin of UKISS) it's probably because their talent is more appreciated. Apparently Ryan J. reads comments on allkpop lol

-DR produced EXO's Peter Pan. He said he made that song by stripping a Bruno Mars song into it's basic beats and building on top of it. He made it in his bedroom in Brooklyn.

-I believe they have plans in the future to work with Eric Nam, Ailee, IOI, EXO, etc.

-The most unbelievable thing I took away from the panel was hearing Lucifer was pitched to so many companies and nobody liked it hahaha. I think it was Ryan who said he was struggling to sell it and SM picking it up for SHINee was his "kpop debut."

I have so many friends who got into kpop BECAUSE of SHINee "Lucifer" and record labels were turning their noses up at it.

-DR was born in Kenya and had ambition to do music in Kenya since he was young. He moved to Canada and then eventually Ryan J asked him if he wanted to produce kpop songs. DR's reaction was "What the hell is kpop" lol. But here he is.

-Ryan had a bit of a rough start because he was living in the States. He had trouble getting work here, possibly because he was Asian so he though maybe he could work in Korea. But when he went to Korea people were suspicious of him because he was from New York but his English was broken and his Korean also had a Busan accent.

-Another fun fact that I remember was the Ryan Jhun was approached to audition for shinhwa but his father wouldn't let him so to stay involved in a music related career he turned to producing!
