The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

if you have to cgi someone in a mv, and you can’t or won’t pay for quality, then don’t have that member be part of it. it’s as simple as that. cgi can cheapen something immediately if not done right and it wasn’t done right in exo’s mv. it was cheap and a weak attempt.

with all the technology we have now this quality is just shameful and ridiculous. it’s below mediocre tbh.

Politics really should have an age limit cause no wonder this world ain't moving forward when we have people who are already one foot in their grave still making decisions for the youth. Not saying old people should be forced out as they do deserve a voice but I do believe their power/influence should be degraded at a certain age cause I'm getting a little tired of older generations passing on cases they don't view as "threatening" cause they'll already be dead when it happenes anyway.

The younger the group is, the harder it is to watch their variety and other activities outside of stages and song promotion because they're seemingly so overly cautious of every single movement and word they say. Yes, every single group is nervous and awkward during their rookie year(s), but compared to groups that debuted prior 2017ish, it gets way too uncomfortable to watch younger groups because they're so stiff and low key scared.

I seriously don't mind idols ages because I'm inevitably old myself and I know I have to fix my attitude accordingly, but watching younger groups struggle so hard in their own skin makes it too painful trying to get to know the members and enjoy any extra footage outside their song promotion. I guess younger idols, especially those who debut under bigger companies, have too much expectations and responsibilities. Every mistake they make can shake a whole big ass corporation, at least that's what they've been taught I believe. Cases like Seungri and other YG scandals must've made companies hold few too many extra lessons on how to be 101% perfect everywhere, everytime.

I do NOT judge the idols themselves, this shit is not their fault. But honestly, if younger groups don't get more comfortable before all groups that debuted before 2017 pack their backs, kpop is going to be a very sad and ghostly town.

I can't remember if I can quote here or not but I agree^

Especially about ghost town part, I used to watch so many varieties with idols, now I struggle even if I know idols, simply because half the time you watch them try to get used to surroundings. I don't expect every group to be variety kings/queens etc, but I hope they can at least learn to play with camera to feel more at ease.

It's funny how everyone was waiting for Giselle to say the N word and when she didn't, they made up comments that she said it even when anyone can clearly hear that she didn't. They are so sad they lost another opportunity to hate on Aespa 😁

@nana686 This is their first comeback for 2021. Butter was just an minimal promoted English single. It's not really surprising they came back so quick.

BTS needs to hire someone with good lyrical talent. Both Dynamite and Butter were so cringe. I know they have a huge language barrier, one is to be able to speak/hold a conversation in English -or another language- and another thing completely is to write lyrics. Whatever talent they have writing in Korean is completely lost in English.

I'll forever be waiting for a Dark and Wild type of comeback. Stop with the healing ly thing pleaseeeeee. It's turning to be really a weird co-depending thing.

And bts comebacks in Korea usually hapen 2-4 months after their Japanese one.

I think it's safe to say Twice peaked with Fancy for me. Their music is still nice, but they're not doing anything that makes me say WOW anymore. It's all good though because they've reached a point in their career where they can do whatever they want musically.

I'm really so sad Azealia Banks is out of the game and has seen her mental health condition deteriorate considerably over the course of the last years.

I mean, yes, she got into petty fights, which wasn't really the best thing to help her career, but they made things extremely entertaining. I could spend about an hour (have a really short attention span) listening to her interviews. She was also fucking hilarious.

She was usually brash yet extremely eloquent; many of the things she said were spot on and would have got much praise today even though they were a tad 'daring' for the times' atmosphere: the white gays appropiating American black girls' culture and jargon, aka all that tea and shade and sis thing people now use to sound sassy that black girls were ridiculed for just less than a decade ago; the way white female rappers were putting on a show acting like the parody of the oversexualised, ignorant black woman, the lack of creativity and independence in the music industry, the joke that the Grammys had turned into...

She's also one of the absolute best rappers of this generation and would have gotten her due recognition had she been more sensible. Killer flow, genius lyricism, great delivery, extremely creative, varied and enjoyable if you don't mind uncouthness.

It's sad both for her as a person and as a musician because i don't really have much hope set on her career getting anywhere as of now (and I really wish I was wrong).

i really like kpop concepts with lore tied to it! it's what piqued my interest in LOONA and got me into their music

so as much as the KWANGYA nævis æ POS kosmo bullshit makes for terrible lyrics (lol im so glad i dont understand Korean), i am interested in whatever this aespa/nct/exo universe is

BTS do not have the best rapline in Kpop. Not even close. For starters, Block B's eats them up.

Not even the so called best rappers of the group are great, they're decent. I always laugh my ass off when they try to pass RM's 'hip-hop dialect' slurred English speaking arse as this lyrical genius (or a genius overall. I can't remember any time he's said or done anything particularly sharp). Don't come with their Demian inspired album because they don't even know their storyline/theory. And it wasn't genius, it was artsy at best. Had sprinkles of Nietzsche, I mean, whatever. He has a couple decent verses, but most of them are like rhymes an edgy 13-year-old would have made thinking they're deep. Suga can't get a good flow for the life of him but I guess he's good at writing and producing.

I guess this is just part of that BTS hype. But there are many reasons Kpop isn't taken seriously in the West, and that's the rampant mediocrity of the most popular groups, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since Kpop is more than music. That's a model that generally doesn't work here (I mean, yes there's Cardi B and all, but you get me). BTS won't wow anyone musically nor will they get much credit for their outstanding writing/producing/lyrical talent/creativity because there's almost none, and the little there is is okay at best. No, they're not The Beatles, their music will never be half as good.

I'm reminded of Blackpink's Time Square performance when everyone was bashing them and for good reason, since they sucked ass. DDDD wasn't really mindblowing, it was a catchy song and what made people expectant was the performance, yet they failed to deliver. It's not really their fault because they're good at being idols/models, not performers. No, you're not gonna tell me they have any talented member other than Lisa, who can dance and that's it.

A group being ‘rap focused’, ‘dance focused’ doesn’t excuse them for having poor vocal abilities. All these extremely popular groups have so much money, they can afford an SM worthy coach for themselves if they want to.

Also, NO, most of the time your faves don’t improve. That’s just your wishful thinking. And the ones that do debuted at a decent/above average skill level (EXO mains, Doyoung, Wendy, Solji, Uji, to name 3rd gen vocalists that did). If your faves suck from the get go, they will remain mediocre in general. That’s why I can’t stop laughing when I hear the whole ’BTS improved’ bullshit, their best vocalist V got even worse with his tongue tension.

Taeil when properly styled, is one of the best looking members of NCT. He doesn’t have that typical flower boy look but that’s what makes him attractive. Somehow they always do him dirty (I call it the SM main vocalist curse, Chen had it too). Sadly I think it’s unpopular because people call him the visual hole of the group.

If only SM realized his undercut is superior...

They're a lot of times when Lisa sounds the best live on stage, and sometimes Rose sounds the worst. Same goes for singers like Tzuyu and Yeri, compared to lead vocalists and even some main vocalists.

It's because they don't overextend themselves with all these extra vocal acrobatics like other members do. It seems like unless you have vocals on par with likes of Wendy or Yuju, it's really hard to do that shit live.

People are saying 2nd gen is having a resurgence. But the reality is that some Korean shows are using brave girls viral popularity to get viewers by inviting other 2nd gen groups. Just a fad which will be over by brave girls next comeback.
