The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

I always thought Jennifer (the one that was married to Brad Pitt) was average IN HOLLYWOOD. I gave her 5/10, but now I give her 7/10. Why? Idk but she just looks more amazing especially in her 40s.

Sounds like conspiracy theory, but it is possible that Irene controversy was created by SM in the first place. Her scandal happened on October 22, and Ningning's birthday is on October 23. Aespa was announced soon after the scandal, days after Ningning turned 18.

It is not a coincidence that all Aespa members are above 18. Whatever plan SM has for Aespa, their Aes, probably needed them to be adult or public would have been extra critical towards the concept with underage members.

Now what SM probably didn't foresaw was the series of bullying allegations that broke out in Feb 2021 and Irene got linked to it too as her scandal was still new.

Speaking as a Jamaican, even WE have a messy history when it comes to dreadlocks, to this day people are being denied jobs for having dreads here and even more fucked up things were happening to dreadlock wearers decades ago as well.

But with all that being said, the vast majority of us damn near LOVE when non-Jamaicans dabble in our culture. Tourism is by far our most valuable resource so HELL YEAH! Try to speak in patois, do our dances, sing reggae and dancehall, hell, wear the dreads! Spread our culture, so people can know how cool Jamaicans are and maybe even come down here, we want that!

We're probably like one of the top five most appropriated cultures ever and if anything, most Jamaicans are actually prideful that people from other cultures emulate us, and we gladly indulge it. The only people who have any negative feelings about it are just some university aged people who use social media a lot. (….imagine that)

Granted there's definitely an issue with how we treat each other versus how we treat foreigners, but I think the change needs to happen more on our end, not the other way around.

For whatever reason, most people in my country just don't feel the need to muddy up one part of our world (tourism, entertainment) just because there are problematic things going on in another (school, the workplace)

What's the point in villainizing people who ultimately have jack shit to do with what's going on in our local workplaces and establishments? Especially when those people are giving us business and exposure, that don't make any damn sense.

I think another thing about gg badass concept is they still try to be cute and/or do aegyo. Like girl your trying to be a bad bitch but your still doing aegyo?? How? If your gonna do a concept, take it all the way. You can't be a badass (or even mature or sexy) but still incessantly try to be cute. It really throws off the performance

Maybe I'm wrong, but all the companies planning to debut american kpop groups (whether just debuting them or trying to make one through a show like nct hollywood), I really don't see it working. If you live in america, you'll know kpop isn't actually mainstream. Literally the only people who know about it are kpop fans, the general public doesn't know anything or pay attention (even after all these years of groups gaining momentum in america or being 'big' here). So, all these companies and people trying to make kpop big in the west (or globalizing it), I just really don't see it happening.

Eunwoo is actually one of the few really talented visual idols, he gets hate for just being a visual buuut as a visual he is literally better in singing and dancing than most kpop visuals tbh.

Spoiler

acting sucks but thats a popular opinion

whenever a group member isn't able perform live for whatever reason, i wish the other members would cover that missing member's part instead of just playing an audio of that member's vocals... none of that "he/she is here in spirit" stuff lol just give the part to someone else in the meantime. there's literally so many people and they couldn't cover for one  person??

and same goes for choreo, whenever they leave an empty space for that one missing member.... just close the gap omg

I don't mind remake of songs, f(x) hot summer is a good song for example, but I don't know how SM chose that boring meh song "next level" and thought it would make a good kpop title track. Does SM actually want Aespa to flop? If they wanted to to remake a song, why not pick a good song which was popular. At least it would draw curious locals to check out the remake.

My unpopular NCT opinions as an nctzen

•I’m fine with Winwin, Lucas, Jaemin etc having no lines. They’re here to look good not to sing/rap.

•127 has better vocals than rappers and SM should showcase that more.

• Dream has the worst discography of the group. WayV has the best.

•Jaehyun should stop rapping, he’s one of the only strong vocalists of the group and I don’t need that.

•Mark is the only good rapper of NCT.

K-pop "fans" act insufferable in thinking things should meet their ideal sense of fantasy when situations (such as those concerning contract renewals) make clear it will align with a different reality.

It's dumbfounding for me to read these "fans" suggest hypothetical scenarios (unlikely to happen) achieved only by a select few to control and manipulate on decisions made, just to keep a desired vision formed by expectations alive.

This deep-rooted sense of ignorance — characterised by making fallacious statements by drawing upon irrelevant markers of knowledge (e.g. company wealth and prestige) and/or mentioning quotes taken out of their original context, almost to keep a "narrative of sorts" — is not only hurtful but also shows a lack of respect and trust for decisions informed by personal circumstances from those affected individuals.

If reports are true, I'm relieved GFRIEND are disbanding. They deserve to follow their paths of interest without having to conform to unnecessary pressures caused by these "fans"; who do not support but would rather choose to irritate.

People online who accuse Gwen Stefani and Miley Cyrus, and even Madonna way back in the day, of “using people of color as props”.

Not even touching on the fact YOU are the ones disrespecting these grown ass people by calling them “props”.

Those three artists are already doing WAY more for artists/people of color by giving them business and exposure than a lot of you typing on your keyboards probably ever will.

And the same can be said for a lot of cases of cultural appropriation to be honest.

TWICE stylists don't suck, they just suck at dressing some members.

I just saw TOL teaser & I was honestly looking out for Jeongyeon because I was hoping they won't f her up, but guess what? They did. There is nothing wrong with the clothing (by itself) but when compare to other members, she looks bad. Why the hell is she dressed in that summer dress that my mom will force me to wear as a child, wtf is with those shelves??? Why oh why!!!

I’m not saying identifying as non-binary is attention seeking, but.... Trisha Paytas & Demi Levato, who are known attention seekers, say they’re that now so.....
