The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

uhh stan twitter... there's nothing wrong when a singer changes the pronouns when they do a song cover... if they're more comfortable conveying the song's message by changing the pronouns, then there's nothing wrong with that

and while we're already here, about boy groups who change girl group choreos to be more masculine when they do a dance cover, i don't see anything so wrong about it either for the same reason as above. i know it's disappointing cuz girl groups tend to cover bg dances as is, but y'all better stop demonizing the boy groups lmao

The more I listen to Ice Cream by Blackpink, the more it grows on me. (Lisa's rap parts are still pretty mediocre though)

It has a simple, chill, almost nursery rhyme-esque quality to it. When people say "easy to digest pop song" this is what they mean.

It's like the polar opposite of a more hard hitting dynamic song like HYLT, which has also grown on me.

Moreover, this is the FIRST time Blackpink actually seemed like a group with a dual concept. Before it just felt like something that was always stated but barely shown.

This is how it should have always been, with the two music videos/comebacks a year, one Black (How You Like That) and one Pink (Ice Cream)

No matter what, I'll never respect kpop, its fans and its culture fully. The fact that kpop stans literally work calculately like a mafia to make their group reach even a small amount of success, and how they baby the idols and see them as other type of beings and not basic people who just happen to work in the ent industry like any other celeb still is so surreal to me even after years of already being familiarized with it. It's like Hollywood's celebrity worship disease multiplicated by 10. Everything is so manufactured and manipulated, the more, the better. Not that in the west things are any better, but it's less obvious and more diverse; and artists are allowed to fuck up and be themselves instead of being expected to be the personafication of perfection and success 24/7.

I don't understand people who act like the whole r/notlikeothergirls is "internalized misogyny". People always gotta act like this stuff is so deep and there's always some internal diagnosis at play. Ehh no. It's just a bunch of try-hard girls who think they're special and "qUiRkY" for not being 100% girly, which no one is. Which is why no one takes them seriously anyway. 99% of them don't genuinely hate feminine women or femininity.

On that note, women who use "internalized misogyny" as a drag against women who don't agree with them are just as cringe. Why is it so hard for some women out there to realize that they're wrong and other women calling them out are doing so because THEY'RE WRONG? It doesn't mean they're doing it for the attention of men or because they hate or are jealous of other women. I can't stand that mentality that the only reason a fellow woman could ever disagree with you is because they hate themselves, LMFAO.

Seungri was never needed in BigBang. His parts could have easily been taken by Daesung or Taeyang. MADE was evident of that when he barely had two lines in some songs. Structurally, BigBang songs just need two rappers and two vocalists so there wasn't a reason for a third vocalist.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but

I don't know how to feel about praising idols (or people in general) for being so skinny and saying they eat so much and its just their genetics and metabolism, we don't know what they actually do and I just really think its very damaging (?)

I'm not saying they're really not like that, but in my experience, I felt so happy and proud whenever people told me that, it came to the point where I wouldn't eat until I was with someone so they could do that again.

Praise and compliments can really do something to someone, and praising someone doing that can really hit(?idklol) some ppl.

jennie is definitely blackpink's 'ace' or whatever. she represents everything the group tries to do/be. bitch is just effortlessly charismatic and has a look that's very special and unique to her, despite also being conventionally pretty. imo, she's the one blackpink member that just could never be replaced because she sets the tone for their image and presence, if that makes sense. she is blackpink

Every single title song by Itzy is just plain bad....

Now I do respect people have different tastes and preferences, I honestly do not know the girls and because of their music, i'm not interested to get to know them...nothing against them..but I just cannot listen to their music..it is horrible, and JYP has no idea how to sustain the group on the long run, no good music, no unique concepts..i mean the members are gorgeous and talented and I have to say their choreographies are insane, the mvs are high budget and eye catching but their music is honestly isn't even listenable... i hate to say this, but if they continue with whatever concept they have now.. I can see many loosing interest in them in the near future.

This seems to be an unpopular opinion with Monbebe at least, but I'm glad that Shownu doesn't change his hair colour much. A lot of Monbebe seem to want him to grow his hair long and dye it crazy colours. I think he suits short, brown/black hair best though so I'm glad he doesn't change his look much.

Bts rapline Mix-tapes need to be called and judged as actual albums. They don't have the raw, unfiltered vibe most mix tapes traditionally have and come off as too overproduced. If they were titled as mini albums or whatever it would make a lot more sense to non fans, reviewers etc.

I have a feeling its because the members are still not very confident in pulling off a solo album release, plus it would need a lot more advertising and promotion.

Twice has "little to no" stage presence. And by that I mean facial expressions. With exception of Jihyo, Sana and Momo. I'm saying it as ONCE btw, I love my girls no matter what.

I was recently watching some MAMA performances throughout the years and after seeing 2ne1 2015 stage I watched Twice from 2019 and it just hit me. Then I saw some comments saying how Twice has actually the best stage presence in this generation. My bias Jeongyeon, Mina, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, Tzuyu kinda always look the same no matter what concept. Nayeon falls somewhere in between imo.

I knew based on the teaser that I wouldn't like Lovesick Girls. It's not that I hate it but it sounds like any other Western Pop song that I wouldn't even click on if it wasn't Blackpink.

Not that it matters. I'm not a Blink so they're not catering to me. And if Blinks love it then, great, by all means. But I'm trying to figure out what about the song is so amazing. Just because it sounds kinda different to their other songs?

I vastly prefer their Black side to their Pink side.

Kill This Love was the last interesting BP song. Lovesick Girls is just so basic and generic and it doesn't sound like kpop, in a bad way.

In trying to appeal to the Western world, BP keeps on losing their originality. Their music sounds more and more like your average American pop song.

Black Pink music does not appeal to me since DDDD...I don't know what's exactly is happening with the group musically..but with the release of Love Sick Girls I just gave up on them completely now..i had such high hopes form all the hype and the teasers but all were washed away...I listened to it maybe 5-6 times..i have to be honest with the first listen while watching the MV I thought it was fun..but with every listen it's just becoming mehhh..nothing special, it became boring very quickly. For me when I get hooked..i get hooked REAL HARD.. but even the choreo seems to be boring too..and they have been this way since DDDD...
