The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

Y'all can cry over DAY6 being underrated as much as you want but they are gonna blow up sooner or later, they are under JYP after all.

I feel like those who really have to worry about their career are bands from smaller companies like The Rose or MAS.

These artists are less likely to blow up as their companies often can't afford to send them to shows and promote them properly.

as much as people like to complain about certain features/experiences on OH (which are often valid), i DO kinda wish more kpop fans were exposed to forums similar to this where so many people can keep up-to-date with news threads and a variety of opinions instead of the same stan echo chamber that twitter and instagram communities deal with.

like i can't even list how many times i've gone into the IG comments of a kpop news post (a la seungri's incident or something similar) and seen dozens of comments that all basically say "wait what's going on someone explain" whereas on a forum it's pretty easy to find articles and different takes on a situation

The more the styling and concept get comments like "Eww, I don't like this or that, that's so unnatural and just weird" the more interested I am. We've seen 500 pretty concepts. Kpop companies have professional stylists and make up artists, please let them go crazy and show what they're actually capable of!!

It's always the same pattern that rookies have got to try stick and which is why they have more crazy and original styles, but about two years in when the group has somewhat made it, both the members and the fans get systematically embarrassed of the group's rookie looks. Because by now the members have got to look like the public wants, which is, less original and more normal...

And what's the most painful part is that this is going to get less and less frequent because the new generation is more about pretty perfect child-like faces. Someone might get pink or green hair, a sticker on cheek or even a fake piercing and that should make it. In survival shows like Produce you shouldn't stick out as something "weird" but instead you've got to be the most perfect embodiment of the popular beauty standards..

Posting the last three pictures made me realize that companies only have courage to make the rappers look somewhat original.. And although it's the more weird looks that gain more attention from the public, I guess the members up front (main vocals & dancers) still has got to look somewhat mainstream and pretty...

And that's boring.

Final member of the Produce groups are all more talented than the ones with the highest acculmative votes in the entire show and didn't get in.

Seeing what could have been, I am glad the 1st 3 seasons didn't use Produce X format. But I do appreciate Mnet trying to make it more different from season 2 instead of exactly the same show with different contestants.

i wish they'd stop making Rosé and Jisoo sing right after each other

like when they sing in the same section, when they each take half of the prechorus or chorus

the stark contrast between their timbres is a bit jarring to listen to, especially in their more acoustic songs

jennie and rose sound better together lol just put jisoo in the verses

The obnoxious way people, even actual kpop fans, treat kpop fans and their reactions to anything i.e. any emotional reaction as though they are psychotic for being invested in the entertainment they consume, really comes across as unnecessary. "Oh you didn't like this? Let me frame your reaction as that of a biased, off the rails horny fan and make fun of you en masse"

Plenty of other fan communities are just as batshit. Beyonce and Taylor Fans were having a go at each other about who invented marching bands in performances just awhile ago. I get being critical of fans, I do not get the need to be obnoxious and relegate all fan reactions if not as nonchalant as yours, as that of sex-obsessed biased freaks. Some people care more about certain things and their reactions are valid.

In life being honest can be a bad and good thing

Bad for example in job interviews, honesty can become a weakness

In other life cases sometimes honesty is similiar to insensitivity and an honest person shouldn't always say everything he/she knows and thinks, it can hurt people feelings, it depends of the situation

-I don't think people should be taken seriously when they blame their age group, gender, college level ect for dumb or illegal things they or someone they're a fan of does. At the end of the day, you're only responsible for your own behavior. So you can't keep using the 'everybody does xyz' lie/excuse to make what's been done acceptable to avoid accountability or jail time.

-I'm ready for the trend of people cheering on self-destructive behavior as 'self care'(when its obviously the complete opposite) or 'relatable enough to emulate', to end.  Life is hard enough, and some people are really too easily influenced by the worst things. Which then leads to making life even harder for themselves and those who care about them.

It really has gotten worse over the years with social media and people constantly broadcasting their self-destructive habits or choices. Sometimes I know its done as a cry for help(and people miss that point frequently for entertainment purposes), other times people want it validated as conventional instead of getting help. Overall it gets more disturbing as the days go by.

I honestly just feel so bad for Talyor Swift
I've ever seen a witch-hunt so bad for a MPG before.

  • *company promotes her single* - desperation
  • *uses a marching band* - outrage, cultural appropriation, "mayochella" trends
  • *dates* - gets slut-shamed for dating too much
  • *is tall* - gets mocked & body-shamed for not being curvy
  • *endorsed a democratic politician on insta* -  everyone suddenly can't read & shes still the poster girl for 'trumps america'
  • *hits no.2 against the strongest no.1 of the year* - a flop, cancel the era, shes over now.

Just gross

No wonder she hasn't released music since 2017

Takes tough skin to be a celebrity, I could never.

I personally don't care about fandoms nor I care to defend them, why would I? so I don't really care about negative generalizations and the bad reps my own fandoms get. Most of them are toxic (some more than others), so I simply don't associate with them. Just the fact that some people try to argue with stuff like "but a lot of [insert fandom] believe so" or lose their mind because you think differently than the majority, just proves that fandoms are echo chambers, and people who highly associate with them lack individuality.

Domestically, this generation successes lowkey don’t hold a candle to 2nd gen’s feat. Sure physical album sales are higher cause international popularity is at its peak thanks to media coverage/social media/ digital tech, but domestically this gen idols/kpop acts’ grasp on the GP’s interest/impact is underwhelming.

I really believe that the claim of exo lipsyncing always is a narrative that some fandoms came up with simply because they know exo's vocals and their live abilities are untouchable and nearly unparalleled. So instead they come up with arguments like "stage presence" or "always lipsyncing" which are simply factually incorrect. I don't think exo lipsyncs any more than any other group does, and more often than not they're singing completely live and occasionally with a loud backtracking if anything, something that all groups do. The vast majority of performances exo have done since I started stanning almost two years ago have been very obviously live, so this is clearly a narrative that only exists in the imagination of some fandoms to justify their hate against exo, and to excuse the terrible live performances of their favs by saying well at least it's live.

Also, it's unbelievable that some people have convinced themselves that it's more important for a singer to write their own music that it is for them to be able to..uh..sing it properly.

It's fairly obvious most of the people who hate on daniel or deny his impact are insecure their prodigy faves never became "it-boys"

Watch whoever becomes centre of broduce X suffer the same fate

Wow the backlash of popularity is so scary. All my life, I've never sported interest in one direction, and the constant "kpop is x1000 better" actually got to my head without realizing. I watched a lot of concerts from western artists today, including 1D, and I truly don't know how their reputation came to become that bad. They clearly can sing, and they perform really well. Their songs may not be my type at all but I can recognize greatness when I see it.

Popularity is scary.

People hate on western artists for wanting "clout" from army's but you could say that about kpop artists that are supposedly fans of bts. People really think every idol that mentions them is being genuine. And tbh there's nothing wrong with that, sometimes you have to do these things for attention. It's mostly harmless but of course people will ruin it by acting like it's a huge crime. Also there's a chance the person you are hating on genuinely liked them, and all the bullshit from fans turned them off.
