contrary to what some fromilies have said i actually really loved their stage outfits at aaa! i thought they were cute, kitschy and on brand without looking tacky or banal. the girls looked gorgeous.

i much preferred their stage outfits to how they were styled for the red carpet tbh even tho they were so gorgeous that what they were wearing didn't matter, which i'm sure was a conscious decision too - but on that note korea needs to let flouncy train mini skirt dresses and peep toe stilettos DIE ALREADY IT'S NOT 2007 ANYMORE GET OVER IT. idontthinksobetchplz.png

I see absolutely nothing wrong with jline promoting with their fixed groups too. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the rotational system after years of jpop but it’s not that deep? 1. Almost every super group idol is a member of more than one group simultaneously. 2. I’m not here for any jpop/48G erasure: I’m not gonna pretend SakHiNak are simply kpop trainees who happen to be Japanese. I’m not going to pretend iz*one isn’t an obvious extension of the Akp brand. All of this is just positive for everyone involved at the end of the day. It makes iz*one an actually unique project never before attempted in Asian pop. That shouldn’t be underestimated.

eyebrow shape can really take away from your looks wthplz.png

so many idols' visual were downgraded by something as simple as that stupid cookie-cutter, one-shape-DOES-NOT-fit-all, korean standard straight brow... it's not universally flattering, korea. much like those 2007 style peep toe heels you insist on keeping on a lifeline long after "The OC" was taken off the air........ thatsgreatplz.png

i have LOVED the NWM era so much, and i love the vibe, styling, visuals, sound and choreo. the pv was as refreshing as the citrusy hues. but what really blew me away was the stage performance and now the short hand editing, swift focus and saturation of the pv doesn't seem quite as dramatic and impactful anymore. the beauty of the 48G brand was always their stage versions, but that got lost in translation over the years... it seems to be back with a vengeance. NWM loses a lot of charm through its cool and suave pv, which seems rather flat next to the amazing video editing of 46Gs, esp keyakizaka's. but the stage performance REALLY shows the song's true potential and tbh, the potential of 48G in a new era. slow applause tbh, slow applause.

big group promotion and nugu group promotion on OH basically looks the same. laugh.png

i say that as a sole promoter of a few groups nobody really cares about here. there's something comforting and democratic about that tbh - it's always that one loud fan... that's what i like about kpop. as soon as you embrace that none of this means anything in the real world or in your real life, you can be less of an asshole and just celebrate the fact that your (or someone else's) fav remembered to use serum this morning or, you know. breathed. bc why not. ohbi.png

a part from THAT ONE promo shot for p48, i have never thought eunbi resembles irene. they have completely different vibes, personalities and charisma, not to mention presence on stage, so i just don't see it. sure *in some angles* maybe, momentarily? in some angles she resembles hyojung a little too, but even that is just flickering. they both dominate the room that's for sure. but where eunbi's power is loud, irene's quiet if that makes sense. fire and ice is a great way to describe them. i love them both so much but i just don't see it. i WOULD love to see them together on stage tho, whew.

“Y’all say MAMA is rigged and yet...†ironically, the only ones making a million posts whining about whiners every damn year are those whose favs are always guaranteed a prize regardless of what they do.

A little empathy for those of us with actual nugu favs who have a bigger chance of springing wings than taking home an award no matter how hard they work, would be tactful.

Umji is so beautiful and she actually reminds me a little of Yeri. I know they’re not exactly lookalikes but still, something about the eyes...

Irene’s visuals are not “overhypedâ€, not by a long shot. If anything I think she’s proving more powerful by each day.

award shows are always politics, nothing else. that's not just korea, or pop, it's literally all awards. you don't believe me, read up on how the oscars lobbyists work - or check out the full list of movies that have won the oscars over the years, compared with the various classics that came out that same year. soooo often we think those movies won awards, and they didn't, and most of the time the movies that did are completely unheard of today or at the very least big question marks.

ariana grande is very talented, that much is clear. i had to peruse some of her stuff on youtube since oh is always talking about her. she's very obviously a teen icon, and i'm too old to connect with her or understand her appeal besides her vocal talent. that's all i've got.

I still consider RBB to be one of my fav RV releases. Literally the only part of it that sounds a bit misplaced is the rap part in the beginning, besides that I actually might prefer it to BB 2.0 and that shit’s a classic

signal remains a frightfully and thoroughly mediocre song in the far back of twice's enormous discography with many standout bops. i will admit that it won soty last year because it met the criteria only, but you'll never ever convince me that it was a good song, or had any lasting impact whatsoever. in fact it seems most people pretend it didn't happen and just as well tbh. it proves one thing: that an award doesn't change whether a song holds up in practice. in the end the audience will decide if something has longevity. i can see people bop along to BB and LS, and yes to WIL too - it's not my cup of tea, it's way too twee and DTNA is far superior but it's catchy and fun - in 10 years time. especially LS, can y'all imagine the endless covers of that one... anyway,,,

i like offbeat idols. i like idols with quirky or difficult personality traits - idols who have had silly "attitude controversies" or simply march to their own drum. not mean or spoiled or ignorant - just genuine, while still being aspirational and inspirational. taeyeon, hayoung, sunmi, yeri, irene, jiho etc.

what is interesting about people who are taught to draw within the lines, who are portrayed as *great kids* with *awesome* personalities, perfect in every way, kind, humble, eats their veg, blah blah. good kids don't tell much of a story. have they struggled to fulfill their role as an idol? who's to even know but here's a saccharine smile. do they get mad, offended, lonely, tell inappropriate jokes at the wrong time, scared, sassy, swear?

i don't mean i don't believe there are idols who simply really great on paper and that's that but i do think a lot of idols who are ten years into the game are so BECAUSE they've exposed themselves as less than perfect or different and chosen to stick with that for better or for worse. i as a fan enjoy that more than pretending they're flawless.

That cheese kimbap clip with Sana showed up on my tl and I thought I should check it out since it’s so famous. But I didn’t find it charming? Like at all. Mostly just contrived. Like most *oppaya* chipmunk-voice-aegyo theatre idols do. Don’t really get why it became her â€thingâ€.

SM’s stage wasn’t even bad and the knee jerk reaction of kpop fans to bash them for every little thing is sooooooooooooooooooo tiresome.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: “stage presence†is the pseudo science of entertainment - the astrology to astronomy. It’s the consolation price of the mediocre and I wish we’d STOP using it as “praise†because it’s so condescending. It’s literally the “you’ve... you’ve got a WONDERFUL PERSONALITY!†of those with little to nothing else to offer. My dog has stage presence. Everywhere she goes she steals the show. Doesn’t mean I wanna pay $50 for her album and photo card.

the superior release of the year was WOW THING, literally nothing could change my mind, esp after the pretty abysmal second part of the year...
