The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

I can’t be the only one who likes having the bashing thread around. With all the toxicity in this forum, isn’t it great that there’s a place where most of it can be compiled and where people can just go and vent without repercussions ? Can you imagine if all those tragic posts were in the main forum instead? Then there’s also the fact that Kpop fans generally can’t handle even the most well-meaning criticism of their faves and the besides all the hate there, the bashing thread provides a place for fans to criticize even their own faves without fear of angering other fans in their fandom. The fact that that thread had the most views and replies of any thread in this forum clearly shows that it’s necessary.

That said, members of a certain fandom need to come out of there once in a while to look outside, take in some sunshine and breath fresh air and give the mass negging a rest :derp:

I don’t know why I can’t get used to songs in Mandarin, they always sound so awkward to me. I never had any moment when I first got involved in kpop where I felt like I had to get used to Korean songs or the Korean language or even Japanese, but c-pop songs still sound so strange to my ears.

As a neutral observer of both groups, I think Twice and BP have the same level of talent.

. Jihyo is a better vocalist than Jennie, and Rosé is at the same level as Twice‘s lead vocalist. Rosé might be the designated main singer but Jennie is a better vocalist than her.

I think Lisa is a better dancer than Momo but not by much

If Chaeyeon had debuted in a company like YG where rap is taken seriously, she’d be better than both Jennie and Lisa. Lisa has stage presence but she’s not that good of a rapper and neither she nor Jennie can write lyrics which Chaeyeon apparently does.

BP has Jisoo who plays the role of the obligatory variety member/ visual who isn’t as skilled as the other three. Twice‘s only handicap is that they have too many Jisoos or members who are less talented than Jisoo, but if you picked Twice‘s top 4 members ( Jihyo, Momo, Chaeyeon and Nayeon), they’d match evenly with BP in terms of talent.

It’s funny when international fans constantly scream about how talented BP is while bashing Twice.

I, however, agree that BP has a better discography even with only 5 songs

it all comes down to image management and media play imo.  BP was hyped by YG for basically years before their debut for being full of talents in a variety of areas.  YG also carefully chose which information about the group to display and which angle they want to shine a light on.  meanwhile 16 is a survival show which inevitably will come with drama and unfair editing for the sake of views, and this has a negative side-effect bc the girls will become 'exposed' and painted as lacking and not skilled enough in certain aspects (from the judges' words and from observations made by the audience themselves).  it's all about gains and losses, imo, and everything comes with a price.

Other companies really need to learn how to successfully brand their groups from YG. Since BB became successfully established as a talented group, they’ve managed to use that to create a certain illusion that all YG groups are more talented than their peers in the same generation and that they always make quality music which has resulted in the public’s willingness to give them a chance at debut which is why all their groups since B.B. have been monster rookies while groups from other companies have to work harder to earn acknowledgement . This is not to say that YG groups don’t work hard but they owe a lot of their success with the general public to YGs brand power

I prefer Joy‘s long hair

I love Doyoung‘s voice but he really has some work to do. Just listened to his teaser with Sejeong and the airiness seems to be getting worse. It’s probably a stylistic choice but he lacked support and just sounded as if he was pushing air straight from his throat, kinda like the high pitched sound you hear when you let air out of a balloon. It’s too thin. I hope he doesn’t stick too much to that style and works on improving his technique

This!!! Usually I'm good at detecting ugly idols or can understand why people find an idol I find good looking unattractive, but whenever I see someone call her ugly I'm like ????? :derp:

At first, I thought people were just saying it to be mean-spirited, which some of them were, but then I realized that some of them meant it. I understand if someone doesn’t think that she’s an amazing visual or anything, but ugly?!

i'm not saying there aren't, but all i see on here are women acting like toddlers or acting like strippers. and yes it was a generalisation, you yourself just admitted i was right by saying

so yeah generalising MEANS a lot (or most to be precise). i'm not denying different GGs exist, i just don't see them around and it's tiring. i'm not looking hard enough? that could be right. i'm not interested in GGs even more so because if i even look on the lightest of surfaces i see what i keep saying i do. it's okay if you think that's fine for that to keep happening but not for me, that's why this is in the opinion thread. so i don't think that would motivate me to see more of the same stuff. what's the difference of girls' day and twice? what's the difference of mamamoo and red velvet, and at that, a HUGE difference? the only girl group i would say is different from the rest is fx, and i mean that honestly.

How do you not see a difference between this

This

Where is the similarity besides the fact that they’re both female groups singing a song in Korean? there are many girl groups out there who are very different from each other and the fact that you’re using mamamoo and RV as examples of how similar girl groups are clearly shows that you are the one blatantly refusing to see the differences.

Most idols look awful in blond hair, especially this particular shade of blond. Idols are usually so pale (either naturally, through skin whitening or makeup) that the blond clashes horribly with their skin colour, especially when they’re exhausted and their skin looks dull. Some of them look good in certain shades of blond, but they’re just certain shades that their hairstylists need to avoid

I don’t get why some people act like it’s a big deal to call idols with stage names by their real names. I don’t think it’s rude or invasive at all. Idols don’t get stage names because they don’t want fans to use their real names, they get stage names because someone might already be using their real name in the industry, their real names aren’t ‚glamorous‘ enough or their real names don’t suit with the group‘s concept or the role they’re supposed to play in the group so the company gives them a different name or they pick one for themselves. I don’t think it’s a big deal to call Kai, Jongin for example. They’re both his name

Tried watching breakfast at Tiffany’s and fell asleep twice. I didn’t find it funny or interesting. A lot of these classical movies are honestly boring, and citizen Kane is the absolute worst. Planning on watching Casablanca next, hope I don’t fall asleep
