The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

Why does this forum treat different opinions, as crimes to be exposed and people who have them, as criminals who need punishment? You need to grow up and understand that people in real life are different, and you cannot bully them everytime you disagree. Honestly, going in a bullying crusade in the name of what you think it's right makes you the bad guy, not them, no matter how wrong the different opinion seems to you, because you are the one acting here.

OH needs to learn to tell sarcasm without needing the /s or doge at the end of the sentence. I see so many users negged to oblivion when they obviously made a joke, and I feel bad; one upvote cannot save them. It makes me wonder how most users here do it IRL, because literally everyone is sarcastic IRL; that's how average people survive monotony.

There's a difference between being homophobic and disagreeing with homosexuality. Having traditional old fashioned views and values and being a conservative does not make you a bad person. By that logic, being Muslim makes you a bad person and I know y'all sure as hell don't wanna say that.

I'm gay but I don't really like pride parades. A lot of the participants are not about LGBT pride but for ultra open sexuality and fetishes. Frankly, they make us look like caricatures, not like human beings. They make us look like we are obsessed with sex. Since when fetishes are limited to LGBT? There are straight people do bondage too, for example, and there are LGBT+ people who don't. Literally everyone has fetishes (ok, maybe not asexuals), it's a human thing to sexual preferences, most people just keep them to the bedroom. But why do they feel like they are special enough to deserve Pride parades?

I quite like BlackPink and especially their most recent song, but I wish their sound was more...theirs. They sound like they are 2NE2

Still don't get the "visual" thing as something that's in anyway important.

I listen to music, I don't watch it ...

Basically, visuals are generally the group's main source of income, because they're the ones who get CF deals, so they are pretty damn important.

Album sales can make money, but in the very low thousands of dollars (when converted), and that for major groups only who sell a lot of them. It's worse for less popular groups. And they have to split their that amount based on whatever they signed in their contract, which usually is more than 60% to the company (if their company is generous), and then split it by group members.

MV clicks like in YouTube make even less money and the money split is similar to above.

Concerts can more money than both of the above...to super popular groups, because they need a lot of money to deal with the costs of the backstage maintenance and other things. So, they need money to make money, and it still screws off smaller groups, which leaves us to CFs.

CF deals are easy money, idols only have to model, and they get a percentage from the sales increase by fans who want to support their idols by buying the product they promote. And even if the sales don't increase, they still have their percentage, which is a lot of money. Of course, more popular idols have more expensive CF deals, like Suzy with Nescafe or Seolhyun with Sprite, but even less popular idols make a lot of money this way. But there's a catch, companies want attractive people to promote their product because attractive people attract customers, and that's where visuals come into play.

I know everyone hates Jessica's voice, but I think it was good enough to add some variety to SNSD, because it contrasted well with Taeyeon's and Seohyun's. Since she is not in the group anymore, both SNSD and she herself suffer vocally.

SNSD sounds bland now, because their voices just merge with each other, and it's not the fault of the song, I actually like this song:

while Jessica's voice alone cannot work for an entire song, especially not this type of song

Together, their voices contrasting sounded so good, they added to each other, kinda like adding vanilla extract to a cake. Vanilla extract alone is hard to swallow, but with it a the cake smells and tastes better with it

i feel like people on this forum take themselves way too seriously and believe they're better than kpop fans on other sites... it gets tiring sometimes.

Thank you. This is THE most typical Kpop site possible, where the butthurt reigns supreme and everyone takes jokes as an insult to their ancestors.

I’ll answer this for you. No, they don’t in some countries. However, that is due to culture differences not religion itself. There are many verses supporting women, for example men are expected to share their finances and provide for their family, a woman can earn and keep the money for herself if she wants, she is not obligated to give it to her partner. Islam is realistic in the sense that it doesn’t ignore some of the differences between men and women and there is, we can’t lie about that. It follows pretty much traditional roles.

Interestingly, the Prophet Mohammed (Pbuh) married Khadija (his first wife) who was much older than him, was a businesswoman and she was the one who proposed to him, they were married for many years (he did not have other partners) until she died due to old age. She was the first person the prophet introduced and accepted Islam to. So it amazes me how some men think that a woman should not have the same rights as them or they are beneath them.

Times have changed, it’s just that some countries don’t want change because it’s easier to control, and corruption is widespread. As mentioned, it’s a mainly a culture issue, places like India also face the same problem, I don’t really understand why all the blame seems to only be on Muslims.

Hope this answers your question.

I’m from an Alevi background, so not a Westerner trying to teach people about their own religion, but I’m going to have to partially disgaree with you: Islam is both a religion and a culture. Many Muslims who have left Islam still practice Islamic rituals, because that’s what they were grown with and cannot just get rid of this aspect of their identity. Yes, some Muslims can leave Islam with no consequences and still celebrate Islam, for those who didin’t know, it really depends where you are, it depends on the governemt. It’s the same as with Western atheists who celebrate Christmas, or Jews who do not believe in god but still identify as Jewish and go to their friends’ bat mitzvah. That’s culture. That’s the cultural aspect of a religion. Muslims can do that too but Islamic countries need to separate religion from government ASAP. That’s the root of evil, that’s what’s driving culture to go in the wrong direction.

Most Kdramas are boring and all the romance ones follow the same formula.

I tried to watch Kdramas, they are a different world from Kmovies. The best recieved Kmovies are great movies period, while the best recieved Kdramas have made me wonder what’s with all the hype or whether I watched the right show.

I’m not a fan of Siwon at all, especially with his constant homophobic statements, but I do think the death of the poor elder was a freak accident, at least according to the information we have so far. I’m willing to change my view with further information, but for now it doesn’t look like his fault. For now the only thing I know is that the dog bit the elder in a special event, it was ignored during the event until days after when the bite was infected and it lead to his premature death. It was not expected to get worse by anyone. Not by the elder himself, not by his family, and not by Siwon and his family either. It was just unexpected.

May the victim rest in peace. Condolences to his loved ones.

Everyone is so excited about Beyonce in the Lion King live-action remake, but she is the weakest choice in the entire cast, and if she had a smaller role, I wouldn't care much at all, but she is going to be Nala. Was Lupita Nyong'o unavailable or something?

I expect Black Panther to be exactly like every other Marvel movie so far: an enjoyable action flick to watch with friends and forgettable outside that. It’s being hyped a lot because of political reasons like (DC’s) Wonder Woman was. Just like Wonder Woman will have a backlash about being overrated and it will be well deserved, because just like Wonder Woman, it will be no Logan. It will be a typical average Marvel movie intended to appeal to the lowest common denominator. And that is perfectly fine.

According to the vocal thread, the vocals colors I like are awful.

IU...seriously people hate IU’s sultry vocal color? She has the sexiest voice in K-pop, it’s always a pleasure to hear her.

Choa. K-pop fandom really hates sultry voices, don’t they?

Rosé, she sounds different and immediately distinguishable from an ocean of idols who spend years training to sound the same. I have heard her technique is supposedly bad, but I like her color. I like how much emotion she shows with her voice, I think the strive for perfecting vocals takes away the feelings out of it. Rosé’s vocals move me, and that’s enough for me to like them.

Jessica, man, her voice gave SNSD flavor when she was in the group. It really showed they needed her when they released songs without her. Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed their songs without her, so it’s not the problem of the songs but...how can I explain this...Have you tried eating without seasoning? I mean, you can, but isn’t it better with seasoning? Even something as simple as salt and pepper really add so much to a meal. That’s what Jessica’s vocal color was to SNSD, and that’s why I love it. She contrasted so well with the others.

And now for the most controversial opinion...the fact that Yoona has little vocal range makes her great for ballads. No seriously, the fact she doesn’t have the vocals to show off makes the songs sound great. Like, take for example her cover “Amazing Graceâ€. Someone with better vocals would have made this cover twice as long as it needs to be because they want to show off their high notes, but thanks to Yoona, this song is as long as it should be. I’ll even say it’s my favorite cover of Amazing Grace and I hate that song, because it’s annoyingly everywhere during Christmas season, but she made it listenable and I wouldn’t mind if malls used this version.

I’m sick an tired of girl crush concepts in Kpop. I know Kpop goes through phases, cute concept, sexy concept, retro concept etc. but I never had any issues with them. With cute concepts 7/10 songs released are good, as much as people say they dislike how sugary they are. For sexy concepts there’s a similar ratio. Retro concepts? Also mostly hits over misses. With girl crush concepts, most songs tend to be random noise, and I don’t know why labels want to associate the concept with that cacophony so badly. Like, this is girl crush too, but it’s one of the rare decent ones, why can’t there be more like this (especially now that YG is fucking over them too, like he does to girl groups in general):

I know queer bait when I see it. Yes, there is a number of recent Kpop songs that have started to appeal to LGBT because Korea finally found out they can make money out of them like they can money out of straight and cis people. That doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it. I’m perfectly fine with Chuu or Twice’s recent MV, even though the latter especially is aimed at straight people. It just doesn’t bother me. I enjoy them. Let me enjoy them. I don’t need anyone to tell me in long tumblr essays I shouldn’t because they’re just queer bait. Sure, I guess they can be problematic in the way they represent relationships, real life ones are not good if they are stalkery, but man, it’s escapism. I don’t care if they are problematic because I’m not following Kpop for lessons on life and relationships, I’m following for sheer entertainemnt value. I’m perfectly able tell right from wrong, now let me be entertained.

People keep calling Cinderella’s live action version as an example of good adaption to shit on other Disney live actions, supposedly that honored the original Disney movie and added new elements to modernize. Have people actually seen the original movie or just go by what random blogs say it was like? The new Cinderella actually makes the original one look like a strong female character^TM. Do people seriously consider having more interests like horseriding and reading books as better characterization? No, reacting with anger to abuse and wishing to get away from that life is good characterization, accepting abuse without any struggle makes a pathetic character, which would have been interesting if it was on purpose, but it wasn’t. The new Cinderella is pathetic. If you want a good modernized Cinderella adaption, with strong female character and all that, watch Ever After. Let’s stop lying to ourselves, no Disney live action adaption holds a candle to any of the originals, so lower your expecations with the future ones as well. They want to make money first, not honor the originals.

None of (G)I-DLE songs clicks with me, I feel like I’m expecting them wow me, but they never do, they just sound average, melody-less, so I’m surprised how popular they are for their musicality. That said, I’m glad for their positive reception, I love Soyeon and I’m so happy for the success she and her group have. I witnessed her work very hard on Produce 101, always smiling, always performing well, it’s what she deserves. I’m a bit sad I won’t be able to enjoy her music because it’s not my cup of tea though.

I woke up today looking at people in social media fighting about Taylor Swift’s and Kanye’s political views and I feel like it’s unpopular to just not care at all. Political views are the sum of one’s life experiences, and A-class celebrities live such a different lives from mine, whatever pushed them to their views is certainly different from what pushed me to my views. I just can’t compare with them to validate my own values, we live different lives.

We all cringe when men over 40 year old discuss about how sexy young female idols are, I don’t know why it is unpopular to call out female fans of the same age group do the same to boy groups. I shiver to look at these ratios in comments discussing idol bodies, please people go consume “healthy porn†of your age.

Alright guys, it’s fine to enjoy Kpop, but why does everyone upvotes users who say “I stopped studying for exams because I was waiting this MV release.†It’a not cute or an achievement, keep your priorities straight. School is more important than kpop. You can watch your faves content when you don’t have exams or homework. Honestly, if your enjoyment interferes with your responsibilities, seek help from your family or friends, let them help you keep them separate as they should be.
