I can't believe I casually commented that I think it's okay to count EXO K and M albums together for fandom-wise "records" without shitting on anyone in the process and I was super negged for it. WTF? I really didn't want to comment on this issue and I haven't been feeding such threads but after seeing this reaction I really feel the desire to comment on it.

It is quite understandable that for Awards purposes the albums cannot be counted together. They don't have the same lyricists, perhaps not even the same producers in some cases, so it is comprehensible that e.g. Gaon End of Year Awards don't count them together, or even Hanteo's chart. That's all fine.

But then when we are talking about unofficial records such as highest album sales or first day sales or first week sales, we are talking essentially about fandom power. It's dick measuring, really, there's no way around it - or does anyone really think when an album sells 200k, it's 200k different people buying it? It's obvious that's not it. Which, quite honestly, is the reason almost all groups have resorted to multiple covers lately: to see how far the fandom is willing to go. Of course, the fandom size matters too.

So I can't believe there are some people that really think it's not relevant AT ALL that EXO puts two versions of an album out AT THE SAME TIME, that the album is promoted AT THE SAME TIME, that all promotions are done AT THE SAME TIME, that fans have to share their money between the two versions (if they are willing to buy both) to buy them AT THE SAME TIME.

I'll give it to them that it's a bit of an unfair strategy because perhaps 50% of the fans who'd buy only one cover of the K album (if there's more than one) would be willing to buy at least one K and one M. So, in a way, if the M album didn't exist, not all these sales would translate into the Korean album sales. That is true. However, it is not as if the M album not existing would mean the K sales would keep the same. First, there are fans who truly bulk-buy and, from observation, they usually bulk-buy at a 2:1 or 3:1 proportion because they also want to raise M's sales. Second, for fansigns, a lot of fans also follow this proportion. So, in case M album didn't exist, K album sales would improve. For example, let's take EX'ACT, which sold about 540k for K and 280k for M. I think out of this 280k, a good 140k would translate into K sales.

It is honestly a double-edge sword to have it split between albums because you lower the chances of getting ultra-high numbers with one version only. If EXO were to have 10 fansigns, and let's suppose 10 fansigns would translate into idk 200k albums, perhaps 120k would be K and 80k would be M. Is it that hard to understand?!

More importantly, for this kind of "first day", "first week" sales, fans had a limited amount of money to purchase BOTH albums. Like I said, perhaps not everyone would have bought two versions of K album if there was only one, but quite a few would (and speaking of "unfair strategies" in an era where every company is using whatever strategy available there is to sell more albums is quite ironic. Not a long time ago most people shitted on EXO for having multiple covers and where are those people now that 90% of the companies are doing this? Besides, it's not as if fansigns don't increase sales a lot more than multiple covers, and I don't see anyone shitting on groups who have a lot of fansigns?). So this is the truth: in the spam on one week, EXO fans bought 500k EX'ACT albums. It may not count officially in most places, and perhaps rightfully so, but if we are talking about fandom-based records, then it's quite malicious to insist on counting them separately just so it becomes less impressive. It is fucking impressive.

For EX'ACT's case again, and just to add a little more weight to my argument: I was in a group order in my country and a lot of people bought one cover only. For the people who bought two covers, it is true most of them bought one K and one M, but since there were two covers for each, they tried to compensate - one Lucky One K, one Monster M. So, if there wasn't a M version, they'd have bought two K versions, but they preferred to buy one K/one M to compensate sales.

Yes, this is an answer mostly to the Armys (and here I know it's not all of them) who have been trying to lower EXO's achievements in order to be able to say they've surpassed them. BTS has so many achievements, really so freaking many, and yet a few Armys really do have a hard-on for EXO. I understand that quite a few EXO-Ls have been bitter and insecure about BTS but two wrongs don't make a right. I understand why they'd feel competitive but it doesn't make their reasoning any better.

This is the most reasonable argument I've seen about this issue. I wish more people from both fandoms had this much sense.

Fine is extremely jarring. I think something went wrong with the mixing of the song cause I'd never say that about taeyeon's voice. The rest of the album is a masterpiece so it's all good.

Also I dislike songs with too many highnotes. They're really hard to listen to.

People need to stop putting down visuals. Alot of times they're the ones who bring in the most fans and are stan attractors. They're very much important to a group even if they may not be extremely talented. Also kpop is a visual based industry first and foremost. So stop bitching about their role in the group.
